Chapter 115: 115. Battle at The Breaking Point

Rick, Carmilla, and Natasha were forced to move to the back, where the wounded would be taken. Carmilla looked like she was about to rip something apart out of anger.

"We should be fighting!" She growled and held her sword hilt so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

Natasha shook her head, but her face showed that she agreed emotionally. "We’d be dead in seconds because we’re all out of energy."

"We have no mana left, no stamina left, and we’re all hurt. We’d be a burden for them all."

Rick couldn’t do anything but watch as the fight went on. His eyes started to pick out individual fighters in the middle of the chaos. His system pinged softly, not too loudly, but just enough to get his attention on some demon warriors.

Vyra was a deadly whirlwind of grace. Her two swords flashed in the firelight as they cut through corrupted beasts with surgical precision.

She moved like water, dodging attacks and hitting back with deadly accuracy. A group of younger demons were fighting close to her, and Rick saw that she was purposely putting herself in a position to protect them while still being part of the attack.

On the eastern wall, a demon woman Rick had never seen before led a battalion with ruthless efficiency. She was tall for a demon, and she carried a huge warhammer that could crush corrupted skulls with one blow.

Her black hair had gray streaks in it, and her face was covered in battle scars. Her voice echoed across the battlefield, directing her troops with military genius.

Rick’s attention was drawn to another demon near the front lines. A demon woman in red robes stood with both hands up, shining with magical energy.

She was trying to clean up the corruption itself, and her face showed that she was very focused and stressed. She was sweating a lot as she cast multiple barrier spells at the same time to protect parts of the defensive line.

An elite archer was methodically taking headshots on corrupted demons from the watchtowers with terrifying accuracy. Every arrow hit its target, killing enemies before they could get to the walls. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Her black armor seemed to drink in the light, and her face showed complete concentration as she used hand signals to direct the whole ranged battalion.

Not far from Rick’s position in the back, a demon healer tirelessly worked on the wounded, bringing them back from the front lines.

She moved quickly and calmly through the chaos, her hands glowing with healing magic as she looked at injuries, decided which ones needed the most attention, and yelled orders at her medical assistants.[SCANNING TARGET: HEALER MARA BLOODMEND]

Rick’s head was spinning. "So many strong, older demon women fighting to keep their home safe..."

Sebastian was on his shoulder, and all three humans could see him. "I can see your gooner brain working even though we’re in the middle of a fight for our lives."

Rick weakly said, "It’s not like that."

"I just... they’re all fighting so hard, and they needed help!

"I have to help them because I want to be their hero!"

Sebastian said, "You can hardly stand."

"Has that ever stopped you before? You often make negligent choices when older women are in danger."

But Rick’s eyes were drawn to the middle of the battlefield, where General Zara was fighting. And what he saw there took away the last bit of breath he had.

She was truly wonderful.

Zara’s greatsword moved effortlessly, cutting through corrupted enemies with deadly speed. There was no wasted movement in every move, just pure concentrated lethality. She was fighting fifteen evil creatures at once and easily winning.

Rick was fascinated by more than just her skill. What captivated him most was the expression on her face.

She had a smile on her face. She was smiling genuinely and wholeheartedly. It wasn’t the cold smirk of someone who likes being in charge, but it was the pure joy of someone who is completely at ease.

She laughed as a twisted monster lunged at her throat. Her greatsword caught it in the air and cut it in half.

She spun around and used the force of her spin to cut off the heads of two shadow constructs that had tried to flank her.

A corrupted demon charged at her from behind, and she kicked back without looking. Her heel hit its skull hard enough to break bone.

"Goddamn, she’s amazing," Rick said.

Sebastian let out a sigh. "She’s scary and also totally your type."

"Adult, strong, in charge, loves to fight, and probably has mommy energy for days."

Rick said, "Shut up," but he couldn’t look away.

Sebastian said, "I’m right."

Rick had no choice but to agree. "Yeah, whatever floats your boat."

The demon defensive lines held for thirty minutes. The warriors fought hard and with discipline, giving up ground only when they had to and attacking back hard when they saw an opening.

But the corrupted kept coming in waves that seemed to never end, and Rick could see that the demons were getting worn out.

On three sides, Commander Rylah’s battalion on the eastern wall was surrounded and fighting hard to keep their position. Thera, the War Sorcerer was getting close to magical exhaustion, and her barriers were breaking down under constant attack.

Corrupted flyers were doing a lot of damage to Lieutenant Kessa’s watchtower, and the building was starting to lean dangerously. Too many injured people were coming to Healer Mara’s position at once, which was a problem.

Rick’s chest felt tight with worry. "They need help..."

"They all really need help!!!"

Carmilla’s hand was tightly around his shoulder. "Don’t even think about it."

"If you go out there, you’ll die. And you want to break our promise already...?"

"They need help!" Rick said it again, this time more forcefully.

Natasha moved to stand on the opposite side of Rick. "We all need help."

"Everything about this situation is getting worse rapidly."

"The demons are good at what they do, but there are too many of them."

Then a roar shook the battlefield, making everything else sound like whispers. The corrupted beings moved apart like a sea, making a way.

And something came down that path that made Rick’s blood run cold.

It was a Corruption Titan that was at least twenty feet tall. It had once been a demon, but the evil had turned it into a monster.

Its body was encased in corrupted armor resembling grotesque plates, pulsating with a sickly purple energy. In its massive hands, it wielded a greatsword nearly as tall as itself.

The blade was dripping with concentrated corruption.

The Titan surveyed the battlefield, its eyes radiating a malevolent intelligence. It was far from a mindless creation.

This creature posed a significant threat to their strategy, its gaze fixed on General Zara with unmistakable intent.

It knew she was the strongest warrior, the leader, and the one whose death would break the spirits of the demons.

Zara saw the Titan coming, and her smile turned into something wild. "Hahaha! Finally...!"

"A worthy opponent...! Our battle will be legendary!" With her greatsword raised high, she charged straight at it.
