Chapter 193: 193. When The Ocean Answers Her Rage

Nerissa stood frozen in the center of the plaza, surrounded by the remnants of her kingdom. As she gazed at the two figures perched atop the massive head of the Leviathan, her water-dress shimmered with barely contained energy.

Typhon, the man she had loved for seven centuries. He was not only the father of her three hundred children but also the Emperor Consort, with whom she had shared not only her throne but also her dreams of a peaceful ocean kingdom.

And Queen Seris—the woman who had stolen him away. For two centuries, he had chosen her as his lover, during which she bore child after child, convinced they were forging a future together.

Now both of them stood in front of her, corrupted and with the same goal with everyone against her.

"I gave you everything," Nerissa whispered.

Her voice reverberated oddly through the water, causing the entire citadel to tremble. "Seven hundred years, Typhon...! I devoted seven hundred years of my fucking life to you!"

Her hands began to tremble, but it wasn’t fear that caused the shaking. It was something far more perilous.

"I gave birth to three hundred of your children and ruled alongside you! I devoted my entire fucking heart and soul, believing we were working together for a brighter future."

"I thought we were making a permanent mark on the world together to be better!"

The water around Nerissa started to glow with a strange blue light that pulsed in time with her words. Rick felt the temperature drop so quickly that even his Thalassic Crystal had a hard time keeping up.

"And you..." Nerissa’s voice trembled, not from sadness, but from pure, unfiltered rage. "You spent two hundred years fucking with another woman...!"

"Two hundred years of making a secret family while I thought we had the same dream...!"

"Every fucking day... for two hundred years of bullshit lies...!!!"

Typhon spoke in a voice that showed no remorse as purple corruption energy swirled around him. "Nerissa, you were always so focused on the kingdom..."

"On duty, responsibility, and the heavy weight of the crown. I wanted something that was just mine alone..."

"Something that had nothing to do with politics, legacy, or making the best ocean empire!"

"MINE ALONE!?" Nerissa screamed, and the whole ocean answered her rage.

Rick was both amazed and scared as huge columns of water shot up from the seafloor around Meridia, like giant pillars holding up the sky. It was impossible to understand how big the magical show was.

On the other side...

Sylvia’s dragon eyes got bigger when she saw the ocean beyond the barrier suddenly explode with vertical waterspouts that reached miles into the corrupted sky.

"What the seven hells is that...?" Zephyra gasped and held baby Sophia even tighter.

Her Crystalline Observer showed Nerissa in the middle of everything, her body giving off so much magical energy that it made everything else look small.

"That," Sylvia said in a low voice, her dragon instincts sensing something deep and scary, "is what happens when you break an empress who has been hiding her feelings for fifty years and has been ruling for eight hundred years...!"

"That is the power of the ocean awakened by pure rage!"

...

Nerissa’s shape started to change again in the plaza. As she took on her true royal form for the first time in hundreds of years, her humanoid shape shimmered and grew.

Her body grew to fifteen meters tall. It no longer looked like a person.

Her scales turned into armor that shone like polished sapphires. Her hair turned into flowing strands of living water that moved on their own, and she could crush stone with her eyes that were on fire with blue-white flames that looked like stars sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

"You wanted something that only you could have?!" Nerissa’s voice now had the weight of eight hundred years of power behind it. "Then let me fucking show you what’s mine alone!"

"This ocean... this land... and these waters have fulfilled my desires for six hundred years, and the RAGE I’ve been hiding for fifty years, because I thought I didn’t deserve to feel it, is now UNLEASHED!"

She raised both hands, and the water within a mile ceased all movement. It simply stopped. The current halted. The ocean’s natural flow froze, seemingly bringing time to a halt.

Nerissa continued, "I killed three thousand two hundred and forty-seven innocent ocean dwellers because of what you did!"

Her huge body radiated power that made the Leviathan look small by comparison. "I killed seventeen kids who hadn’t done anything wrong other than being born."

"I sent an entire kingdom to the bottom of the ocean because my pain needed blood!"

Her expression had transformed, and tears streamed down her face—yet they weren’t tears of sorrow. They were tears of pure rage, sharp and cold, like ice shards falling from her eyes.

"For fifty years, I’ve felt guilty about that! I turned myself into a lifeless shell, devoid of feelings, because I thought I deserved to be hurt!"

"I emotionally abandoned my children, believing that was my punishment for becoming a monster!"

Her voice got so loud that it shook the walls of the citadel. "But do you know what I thought when this motherfucker living on the surface grabbed my face and told me to feel something?"

She pointed at Rick, who stood his ground even though her new presence made him feel very uncomfortable. "I realized that my worst crime wasn’t the genocide...!"

"I believed I was the monster because you made me feel that way, but... YOU...! The ones who destroyed everything we created!"

Nerissa’s fists tightened, and the frozen ocean reacted. Hundreds of huge spears of compressed water appeared around her, each one as big as a house and sharp enough to pierce dragon scales.

"Fuck you... Typhon...! This has gone far enough that I will never ever forgive you or the likes of you!"

"I won’t let your corruption be my freedom... And I won’t let you, your fucking whore, or that Archon asshole take anything else from me!"

The spears were thrown at the same time, sounding like thunder splitting the ocean. Seris raised the Tidecaller Trident in a panic, and the Leviathan’s many heads moved to block it, but Nerissa’s attack was too fast and too numerous for them to stop.

Half of the spears hit the Leviathan’s armored body, drawing purple ichor and making the corrupted Guardian roar in pain. The other half made Seris and Typhon split, breaking up their formation on top of the creature’s head.

Rick felt something change in his chest. Through the bond network, all five of his partners sensed it simultaneously. Nerissa was no longer just fighting.

She was turning fifty years of repressed feelings into pure destructive power, and the ocean itself was bending to her will in ways that normal magic couldn’t explain.

"That’s what an eight-hundred-year-old empress looks like when she stops holding back," Sebastian said in Rick’s ear, his voice very serious.

"When maternal rage, sovereign authority, and oceanic magic all reach their highest levels, this is what happens..."

"She has all the powers right now, and... she is beyond words."

Seris recovered quickly, and her own corrupted form rose to the challenge set by Nerissa. As purple energy flowed through the corrupted queen’s body, it grew larger and changed her into something that looked like her old beauty but was now a nightmare.

"Do you really think your anger makes you special!?" Seris screamed, but her voice was distorted by corruption. "I’ve felt the same anger for fifty years...!"

"The Archon’s power keeps hatred alive in its purest form! Your anger is new, raw, and not focused!"

"And mine has been turned into a catastrophic weapon!!!"

She pushed the Tidecaller Trident forward, and the Leviathan moved with deadly speed. All twelve of the Guardian’s heads opened wide at the same time, and beams of concentrated corruption energy shot out of each mouth.

Nerissa didn’t move out of the way. Instead, she made a round wall of compressed water around herself that spun at speeds that were not possible.

The beams of corruption hit the barrier and bounced off in all directions, making trenches in the seafloor and destroying a number of buildings in the outer district.

"Oceanic Authority: Tidal Dominion!" Nerissa’s voice commanded reality itself to obey.
