Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Never Alone

His voice steadied into something final.

"You can’t undo your past. You can’t change yourself from a demon. But you can change everything from this moment forward. You can write your own fate and tell the gods to stay the hell out of your affairs."

He withdrew his hand.

"Now tell me, Lilith. What will you do?"

She thought. For what felt like an eternity within this mindscape. Every memory. Every fear. Every chain rattling against her skin. Every moment that had brought her here.

Then she gathered her courage. Drew it from somewhere deep. Somewhere she had forgotten existed.

"I’ll fight."

Jax said "Fight who?"

"Myself."

Jax smiled. The kind of smile that said he had been waiting for exactly that answer.

She continued. Her voice growing steadier with every word.

"And I won’t lose. I will control this power. And let it decide whether it wants to burn on its own instead of controlling me, or sit down and watch while I act on my own terms."

Her back straightened. Her tearful eyes found a new light within them.

"I won’t apologize for existing anymore."

The chains around her wrists began to degrade. Slowly. Cracks spreading across the dark metal. Link by link.

Then demon Lilith spoke. "Pretty speech."

Her voice cut through the moment. Not with hostility. With something heavier. Something that felt like grief.

"You will face the people, Yourself and Everyone that questions you. But will you be able to face the world alone?"

A pause.

"Just like always. That’s the part you left out, isn’t it? You said I’ll fight. I’ll stand. I’ll prove." Her eyes narrowed. "I, I, I. Every sentence. Just you."

She stepped closer to the chained version of herself. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"That’s why I existed in the first place, Lilith. Not because of the blood. Not because of the trauma."

Her voice dropped to something almost tender. Almost broken.

"Because you were alone. Completely. Utterly. For years. Nobody to sit beside you when the memories came at night."

The mindscape trembled.

"You created me because you had no one else."

Chained Lilith’s tears began falling again.

"And now you’re standing there making promises about facing the world." Demon Lilith’s gaze was unwavering. "But the world is very large, Lilith. And you are very, very alone in it. I will be the only one you will ever had and ever need"

Silence. Heavy. Crushing.

Then Jax moved.

He closed the distance. Not toward the chained Lilith. Toward the demon.

And he hugged her.

His arms wrapped around the manifestation of rage, fear, and loneliness that had protected this girl for years.

The version of Lilith that everyone called a monster. The one that had kept her alive when nothing else could.

"You’re wrong." His voice was steady. Unshakeable.

"You were never alone." His grip tightened. Firm. Real. Present.

"You had Lysandra, who helped you from the shadows. You had Seris, who was ready to throw her life away to save you. You have other girls. Elira. Astrid. Seraphina. Every single one of them would do the same."

A pause.

"And you have me, Lilith."

His voice carried something beyond promise. Beyond words. Something that felt like an oath carved into reality itself.

"You were never alone. And you never will be. I promise you that."

He held on.

"Whatever happens in this place or in the world outside, we will stand for you. So you don’t have to fight alone. You just couldn’t see past the walls you built."

Demon Lilith didn’t speak for a long moment. She just stood there. In his arms. Perhaps experiencing warmth for the first time in her existence.

Then, still within his embrace, she smiled. The first genuine smile she had ever worn.

Her body began to fade. Dissolving into particles of purple light that drifted upward like embers.

Before she disappeared entirely, her voice echoed through the mindscape one final time and was directed towards Lilith or precisely herself.

"Don’t get defeated by me again. Next time we meet, make sure you’re the one in control."

She smiled wider.

"Because if you’re not, I’ll be waiting in the darkness. And I won’t be as patient as I was today."

Then she was gone.

The chains around Lilith shattered completely. Every link. Every shackle. Crumbling into dust that dissolved before it touched the ground.

Lilith stood. Unchained. Whole. Tears still falling but no longer from pain.

Jax’s form began to fade as well. The Soul Thief pulling his consciousness back to the physical world.

He gave her one last smile before he vanished.

And then he opened his eyes.

His head was resting on something warm. Soft.

Seris’s lap.

She was looking down at him. Her mouth opened. Closed. Opened again.

The words she wanted to say, the questions she desperately needed answered, none of them could form.

She just stared at him with eyes full of fear and confusion and relief tangled together.

He didn’t explain. Just looked ahead.

Cleenah stood before them. Bruise Lee lay defeated at her feet slowly vanishing. And the moment she saw Jax’s eyes open, a smile spread across her face. Dark. Victorious.

"It’s time to end this all."

She held up a dark crystal. It pulsed with cursed energy. Malevolent. Hungry.

"Killing both you and this demon won’t be nearly as entertaining as torturing you."

Her smile widened.

"What if you’re both trapped here? Eternally. No means to escape. No connection to the outside world."

She turned the crystal slowly in her fingers.

"Wouldn’t it be chaotic? I’m quite certain one of you would kill the other eventually. She’ll try to kill you when she goes berserk again. The same girl you tried to protect will come for your life."

Her eyes gleamed with twisted satisfaction.

"And to survive, you’ll have to kill her."

Jax looked at Lilith. She had collapsed to the ground. Her body was waking up with immense pain. Exhausted beyond anything she had ever endured. But she was conscious. She was alive.

Then Jax put a hand over his face.

And started laughing.

Maniacally. Uncontrollably. The sound bounced off the dungeon walls and filled every corner of the cursed space.
