Limitless Sorcerer: I Stole the Supreme One's Vessel-Chapter 46: The Step Battle
Jareth dove into the midst of charging bulls, their charge already broken by the ranged spells shot at them.
His glowing sword whipped left and right, slicing the bulls and sending heads flying. His body danced left and right, weaving through the chaos like a leaf in the storm.
Like an unstoppable berserk warrior, he pierced through their ranks. Decapitated bodies and charred bleedings decorated his trail.
Nothing could impede his path. Every slash spelled death. Despite all this, he still made sure to keep his speed at the pace of the top students, marking him among the elites—not an unexplainable freak.
His wildness was guided. This kept him at the forefront. Peeking behind, Jareth made sure to avoid stray spells and flying bodies.
Explosion after explosion rang out from behind. Dust and blood flew in the air.
Spells of various kinds and colors flew about. Flames raged through some trees. Dying moos, although drowned out by the chaotic explosions, could be heard. Branches fell. The air was charged.
Behind was pure chaos and pandemonium. Everybody tried to keep a certain distance from each other, but some spells are just too destructive... like Liana’s fire spears. She was blowing up everything in her path with an enthusiastic and maniacal smirk plastered on her face.
She was a menace.
But she wasn’t the only one. Zelda was cutting everything in her path with her sword burning with purple flame, like a torch. Her brother was sending everything flying with each smash of his hammer, and every bull that got smashed never got up. Jareth couldn’t tell if it was an instant kill or if they fainted.
Alven was cutting everything in his path, while Nathan was playing it smart with his calculated movements and his sword.
The person having it the hardest in their group was Nadia.
She was running left and right without a rhythm, her head turning around and eyes nervously scanning as she tried to avoid attacks.
There were other impressive people around—like a girl controlling four daggers around her that sliced everything in her path. Or another girl whom the beasts strangely ignored, even veering around her, giving her an easy pass.
Another person was a boy—the boy with ice-blue hair that had stood out to him earlier in the ruin estate—cutting everything in his path with a sword that glowed with an ice-blue glint.
There were others. He made sure to make a mental note of them, remembering Esta’s advice.
In the midst of his observation, Jareth didn’t stop, as he wasn’t operating at his peak. His physique had already broken past the Awakened rank, so it was a walkover in terms of his reaction, speed, and strength. Caniblaze made everything even easier.
He was like a wolf in a pack of sheep.
It took about ten minutes before he broke out of the chaos, followed by others.
Paragon Zev was already running ahead. Thinking for a second, Jareth decided to leave Liana’s group behind and dashed forward to catch up. He wasn’t like them—students.
They ran for hours until they could see a mountain in the distance, with the top looking like it was cut and replaced by a fenced fortress.
Jareth was panting now.
The hours of running were draining. The sun was already high in the sky.
When they got close to the mountain, Paragon Zev flew upward and spun to face them.
"The first twenty to get to the top get the best rooms and some marks. Attacking others is allowed. Remember, the test has begun," his voice thundered over the area, probably to reach those at the back—even those who have no shot at winning from their position.
Gazing ahead, he saw the side of the mountain having rugged steps that looked natural and artificial, leading to the top.
Jareth’s eyes darted left and right as he spotted a few quickly sprinting forward with faster speed. The person leading was the boy with ice-blue hair.
He wasn’t having a good time, as different ranged spells and weapons were flung at him.
Following closely behind was Alven, his shield placed behind him, deflecting everything as he raced up the rugged stairs.
Jareth’s eyes narrowed.
’Looks like it’s time to take the first position! Not just the first; I need to impress this Paragon Zev!’
His sword disappeared into his badge as he thrust his hands forward.
Crimson flames erupted from his palms, swirling in a brief moment to form two fire spears that hovered above him. With a thought, he activated [Grieving Echo], and a green aura flared over his body.
Jareth instantly shot forward like a boost was added to his feet, instantly overtaking the few people in front of him before they could realize it. He quickly climbed the steps.
Suddenly, he heard a whooshing sound from behind.
He darted aside on instinct. A green wind blade cut past his side, slashing into the mountain without leaving a mark.
’That was close,’ Jareth thought, his eyes peeking behind to see the target.
He instantly looked at a smirking boy with a broadsword in his grip.
Jareth swiftly veered aside as more attacks shot at him.
He instantly spun, thrusting his hands forward, spewing crimson flames from his palms like it was jetting from the maw of a baby dragon.
That made some people slow down.
Then he halted the wild spray, swiftly changing to tossing fire orbs in multiple directions without any pattern. Explosions and flames rocked his trail.
He decided to launch one spear, sending a massive explosion that stopped many people in their tracks.
A new fire spear quickly formed, hovering above.
His steps never slowed, quickly climbing upward. His flames never stopped causing chaos, smashing any spells coming at him.
Through the chaos behind, he happened to see Liana attacking the boy that attacked him with a wind blade, launching fire spears at him.
In a brief moment, the boy went up in flames.
Suddenly, Paragon Zev descended and waved his hand, quenching the flames as he picked up the boy and flew up. That was how he dealt with anyone fatally injured. Jareth couldn’t tell their fate.
He focused ahead, soon catching up to Alven. Jareth thought he was going to attack, but Alven just winked at him and whispered, "Roast his ass," while gesturing at the ice-blue-haired boy.
Jareth ran past him and swiftly approached the boy.
