Limitless The Strongest Revenant-Chapter 1078 - 0.000871% [1/2]
Under the cover of holy light, I fought. I ended up calling out all six of my Soul Avatars. But rather than fighting with them, I had Exa use them as battery emplacements.
[My lord, prepare for ordnance, Sacred Salvo firing!]
"OKAY!"
As I bashed yet another monster into paste, Sacreds of various sizes whizzed past me. I didn't even bother fighting with my eyes as the surroundings were already too bright.
It was like trying to dance in the middle of the day. Around that time, the sun was so high it was blinding. Only the most dedicated or brain-dead kids could still run around in such circumstances.
Luckily, my disciplines could allow me to fight without vision.
"[War Dancer]!"
Using [Sky Sentinel], I fought in 3-dimensional space without gravity. Despite the supposed power of my opponents, they were just really hard bastards. They did not use skills and fought in such a brain-dead manner it was boring.
'I suppose they were meant to be super zombies that you couldn't kill.'
Zombies were not dangerous if you could kill them quickly. The issue all started from when you couldn't. I noticed while fighting them, apart from {Fast Forward} and blessed energy, the artificial Arisen could somehow tank everything else.
They had extremely fast regeneration and were highly resistant to physical and soul-based attacks. I know this because shooting them with {Bestow} ammunition did less damage than just ordinary bullets.
This simply meant that should ordinary Reapers come here, they would no doubt be ripped apart. Any manifested {Fates}, especially those that appeared as weapons, would be useless. Soulforms would fare a bit better, but it was the same problem.
Put simply, the Artificial Arisen would be an army that could devastate both humans and Reapers. They were apt final units just before the big boss. That was if they faced regular Reapers.
"Too bad for you, I was never normal."
{Fast Forward} did one thing and did it extremely well. It recorded scripts of actions and executed them in a single attack. It did not use soul but malice and depending on the script it had the potential to be extremely overpowered.
"{Fast Forward}!"
Along with my shout, yet another former Specter died. It was a walrus that had extremely thick skin and rampaged like a storm. But before it could wield its power, I moved to its back and erased it.
[My lord. Duck. We are laying suppressive fire.]
Despite not being able to see ten feet in front of me, I trusted Exa with my life. I slid to the ground and covered my head before giving the go-ahead.
"DO IT!"
[Firing!]
The combined chorus of dozens of weapons resounded. Apart from the blessed energy, the wind screamed as all the rounds raced to their targets. The sweet whooshing sounds of 40mm and 95mm ordnance flew through the air and detonated mere moments later.
[Clear! You may proceed, my lord.]
"Target?"
[Only two remain. One in the shape of a giant slug towards your 12, and one that moves like a dragonfly creature that is holding back.]
"Got it."
I quickly got up and followed the markers Exa added to my vision. Like an AR interface, glowing crosshairs showed me where the last two enemies were. They seemed stationary, probably still reeling from the excessive light show.
Exa even shifted my vision to a different type that didn't make my surroundings blinding. My current vision looked like I was moving in a charcoal painting. The fact that I couldn't even see the blinding light allowed me to fight without any issues.
Gripping the Faker maces in my hand, I licked my lips in anticipation. The Slug looked like an obese man riding on a moving gravy boat. He had two massive hands covering his face while the rest of his snail body squirmed uncontrollably.
"Why would you even want to be a slug of all the crap you could transform into?"
I swung a mace and called my newest trump card, "{Fast Forward}!"
Once again, an oppressive amount of kinetic energy left my weapon and rampaged on the Slug's body. But rather than explode, the Slug Specter only shook a bit. Like Jell-O, whatever force I hammered him with dissipated.
"WELL FUCK!"
Unwilling to be pushed back by such a disgusting bastard, I swung my other weapon and slammed a Faker mace for the second time. But similar to before, the Slug's body tanked the entire attack with minimal damage.
"Were slugs supposed to be this hard?"
[They are not. However, most slugs excrete mucus on their bodies that absorbs shock. It seems this Specter weaponized that to turn into the monster it is now.]
"Tsk. Now what?"
I kept an eye on the dragonfly; it was still hunched at the back with its hands over its eyes. The bastard was crashing along the walls, obviously dazed. It reminded me of someone drunk trying to figure out where they were without trying to become sober.
[Let us clear the way.]
"Go ahead."
Taking a step back, I tried to distance myself from the slug. Not even a second passed, and Sacred rounds rained on it like a hailstorm. Just from the impact, I could tell that Exa went all out and was using .50 cal BMGs.
While the Slug bastard survived the onslaught, I noticed that the shiny texture his skin had before was gone. As the mucus was what protected him, Exa must have used the Sacred Salvo to strip him bare.
I let go of my second Faker mace and held the one I had with both hands. Not willing to waste a single second more, I flew, "[Burst]!"
Speeding towards my target, I raised my Faker mace and swung it towards the slug; I aimed for his midsection.
BASH!
Like hitting water, my weapon crashed violently on the slug. His layers of fat jiggled, absorbing the shot. But I didn't give a shit.
"[BURST]! {Fast Forward}!"
Forcing my way through, I once again propelled myself forward. The powerful impact courtesy of {Fast Forward}'s script resounded a second later. The mucus of my opponent got dried by the nonstop, full-powered bashes my {Entropy} executed.
I felt the resistance against my mace weaken until it pushed through.
TWACK!
As if I ran through a sea, the sluggish resistance stopping my body vanished, and I regained my speed. Like a bullet, I raced toward my second target, the Dragonfly-like human. Unfortunately, it regained its composure and opened its eyes.
Then it vanished.
A second later, I felt something smack my neck. And if that was not enough, I felt it break not long after. Before I could understand, my body shattered into fragments of light and vanished.
[You have died. Auto Rewind has been activated.]
Exa displayed bright red letters: "You have died" after I came back. It annoyed me that she was trying to be a smartass, but I had more pressing matters.
For one, I died.
It was fortunate that I had the {Program} [Auto Rewind]. Otherwise, it was impossible for me to react properly to the dragonfly Arisen's speed. Even with {Calculate} and [Sky Dancer]'s [Attuned], I still failed to react in time.
"Fucking impressive, you undead bastard."
I couldn't help but praise my opponent as I cracked my head to the side.
[My lord, [Auto Rewind] can only save you once every 12 hours. The Dragonfly Arisen intentionally shattered your soulgem in one attack. You cannot receive a similar attack, or you will perish.]
"I know," I said curtly.
This was what I sorely missed, the danger of dying. As the tricks I could use grew, the need, as a direct result of my ability to think and adapt on the fly, dulled.
[My lord, should we be blind to it again with a Sacred Salvo?]
"No, that would no longer work."
[Huh? Why do you think that? What led you to that conclusion.]
"Instinct. This bastard baited me to attack him. He was never blinded by the Sacreds. And I fell for it hook, line, and sinker."
[I see. Then how should we proceed?]
"Stand down. I will kill this one personally."
As my anger and frustration rose, I kept my eyes on the last artificial arisen. It hovered in the air, looking at me. Observing my enemy, I noticed it wasn't a simple dragonfly; much like the other Africans, it was a hybrid shifter.
It had reptile scales, a lion's jaw, and elephant tusks. I had no idea what powers or abilities it mixed with that combination, but it was powerful. If I tried fighting it in a direct confrontation of speed and agility, I would probably lose.
'If even while dead this bastard is so strong, I can't even imagine how powerful he was when he was still alive,' I couldn't help but think.
This Specter must have spent decades fighting the undead. His toil brought safety and comfort to the continent. Yet, like a dirty rag, he was forced to fight till he could no longer, and then betrayed to become the being in front of me.
I felt bitter. It was unfair, regretful, but such was life.
"But sadly, you will die today, [Ninja]. [Shadow]."
When I triggered my skill, the dragonfly began looking around in a fluster. Unable to find me, it began to look for me. Meanwhile, I strolled towards it without a care in the world.
Taking a Faker mace in my hand, I marked the spot just behind the former African Specter.
"Sorry," I apologized in shame, "{Replace}."
Using my {Fate}, I teleported behind it and swung down.
