Chapter 147: Chapter 147: The Mysterious Stranger

Hearing the voice on the phone, hoarse with a metallic tinge, Stella Grant paused slightly in her step.

The person on the other end noticed her silence and chuckled, saying, "Manager Grant, don’t worry, it’s nothing major, and I’ll also pay you a corresponding reward."

Stella held the phone without moving, and seeing Sue Woods looking at her with concern, she calmly responded, "Sorry, no reward without effort."

The other person said, "Manager Grant, aren’t you curious about what it’s about?"

Stella replied, "Sorry, I have something else to attend to."

After saying that, Stella hung up the phone and met Sue’s curious gaze. She shook her phone slightly and said, "A competing company." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Sue blinked with gossip in her eyes, "Are they offering a significant amount for your company’s secrets?"

Stella responded vaguely, "Yes."

Sue laughed and linked her arm with Stella’s, clicking her tongue and saying, "To be honest, Stella, I really admire you for this. Ever since The Grant Corporation got into trouble, your life has been so difficult, yet you’ve never thought about taking shortcuts."

From university to starting work, many wealthy and influential men have offered Stella olive branches, but she has never wavered.

And as Sue knows, ever since Stella started working, many companies have offered big money to buy their company’s confidential prices due to her position in the project department, but Stella hasn’t made a single mistake to date.

Faced with Sue’s admiring gaze, Stella smiled slightly, "Knowing the difference between a one-time meal or a lifetime of meals is something I can distinguish."

Sue feigned disappointment, "Could I have been mistaken?"

Stella deliberately misinterpreted her words, "I’ll accompany you to the hospital to check your eyes when you have time."

After lunch, Sue joked around, but once she followed Stella home, she only had some fruit.

In the evening, Stella prepared three dishes and a soup for her. As Sue ate, she marveled, "Stella, whoever marries you in the future must have ancestors with eight generations of virtue."

Stella served her a bowl of soup, "Society is progressing, thoughts should advance, and it’s not like decades ago where winning a man’s heart meant winning his stomach first."

Sue took a sip of the soup, "True, in this world, earning money is more important than making soup."

Stella smiled, "Indeed."

Sue clinked her bowl with Stella’s confidently, "Instead of helping him achieve his ambitions, it’s better to earn your own gold."

Stella agreed, "Relying on others is never as dependable as relying on oneself. Many men say ’a virtuous wife helps achieve my lofty ambitions’, but once in power, they first cut ties with their loved ones."

Compared to the large meal at noon, Stella’s home-cooked dishes were more to Sue’s taste in the evening.

Sue ate heartily and when she was full, she asked Stella to pack up the leftovers for her lunch the next day.

Stella, anticipating this, brought out an extra portion she had prepared in advance from the kitchen. "I’ve prepared it for you already."

Stella wasn’t one for many words, but her kindness was subtle and gentle.

Sue was moved and hugged Stella, "Stella, I feel like I should take a trip to Rylos, I can’t imagine you being with anyone else in the future."

Stella teased, "Then bring plenty of money for your trip, and on your way back, visit Koridia again. Gender is important, but don’t neglect looks."

Sue pretended to be pained, "You think I’m ugly?"

Stella suppressed her laughter, "No, it’s just that you’re too gentle now. I’m worried that when you come back from Rylos, it won’t match."

After some playful banter, Stella sent Sue off to the elevator.

Watching the elevator doors close, Stella returned home. Just as she reached the dining room to clear the table, her phone on the table suddenly buzzed twice.

Stella glanced down, and a message popped up on the screen: Manager Grant, burdened by debts for so many years, I can’t believe you’re not tired. A woman as beautiful as you can surely live a better life. Ten million, and it won’t require anything illegal or forbidden. Don’t act on impulse, consider it carefully.
