Chapter 175: Chapter 175: I’ll Take You to See the Stars

When Lynn Adler woke up, it was ten in the evening.

Stella Grant sat by the bed keeping her company, occasionally using a cotton swab dipped in water to moisten her chapped lips.

The mother and daughter exchanged glances, and Lynn Adler hoarsely asked, "Where’s your aunt?"

Stella Grant paused slightly with the cotton swab in hand and calmly replied, "Gone."

To be precise, she had sneaked away quietly.

It was unclear when exactly she left, but after Stella arranged for Lynn, Lily Harrison and Elliot Adler vanished without a trace.

Perhaps they saw that Lynn had passed the critical period and assumed that Stella would temporarily let them off to take care of her mother.

After asking about Lily, the atmosphere in the ward became awkward for a few seconds. Stella turned around to place the cotton swab on the bedside table, and Lynn asked in a dry voice, "Have you seen your dad?"

Stella took a light breath, "Yes."

With things having progressed to this point, it would be too fake to keep hiding it.

Stella put down the cotton swab, turned back, and reached out to tuck in the corners of Lynn’s quilt, saying, "He’s doing well, and... he already has a new family."

Upon hearing Stella’s words, two streams of tears trickled down from the corners of Lynn’s eyes, rolling down to her temples.

Seeing this, Stella, for the first time, didn’t offer comfort but wiped her mother’s tears with her fingertips and calmly said, "Mom, it’s not worth it."

With that one phrase, Lynn’s tears broke through all at once.

Lynn started from restrained sobs to finally crying out loud.

Stella leaned back in her chair watching her, her fingertips deeply digging into her palms, but her face showed no expression.

After Lynn cried herself tired, Stella pulled out two tissues for her. "Mom, do you want to see him?"

Lynn took the tissues, her emotions spent, leaving only a profound weariness. "Our divorce papers haven’t been processed yet."

That meant she wanted to meet him.

Stella said, "Don’t go soft."

Lynn replied, "I won’t."

Perhaps because of the tacit understanding between mother and daughter, Lynn didn’t ask Stella why she had seen Kenneth Grant but didn’t report it to her, and Stella didn’t offer an explanation.

For the two of them, he was just a thought.

A thought they would think about.

But when he actually appeared, all emotions would instantly cease.

Compared to the longing he brought, the pain he caused was obviously greater.

While the mother and daughter remained silent, the door to the ward suddenly opened from the outside, and Ms. Dunn walked in, carrying large bags of nutritional supplements.

Upon seeing Ms. Dunn, Lynn was first startled, then looked at the things in her hands.

Ms. Dunn felt awkward. Remembering Silas Sutton’s warning before entering to never say it was he who bought them, she forced a smile and said, "Awake now, I, I bought some nutritional products."

After speaking, fearing that Lynn might not believe her, Ms. Dunn paused and added, "It was, it was Miss Grant who gave me the money."

Ms. Dunn shifted the blame onto Stella Grant.

Stella quickly understood where the items in Ms. Dunn’s hands came from, lowered her eyes towards the bed’s edge, and continued without changing her expression, "Yes, Dr. Harrison said these are good for your recovery."

Ms. Dunn and Stella coordinated quite well, and Lynn, already absent-minded, didn’t suspect anything, only said tiredly, "Waste of money, buying these things."

Lynn woke up at ten, and around eleven-thirty she fell asleep again.

Ms. Dunn walked over to Stella’s side to persuade her to go home to rest, speaking in a hushed voice, "Adler is fine now, I’m here with her, just go home and rest. Come back tomorrow morning."

Stella shook her head, "Even if I go back, I won’t be able to sleep."

Ms. Dunn said, "Not being able to sleep is still better than being here, be good."

Stella replied, "Mrs. Dunn..."

Ms. Dunn continued, "Also, go eat something. You haven’t eaten a single bite since you came back, and what if that weirdo aunt of yours comes back when you’re down? I can’t deal with her."

Ms. Dunn spoke with an air of urgency, and Stella knew she was consoling her, so she smiled and didn’t refuse further.

After leaving the Intensive Care Unit, Stella went to a small noodle shop at the hospital entrance and ordered a bowl of noodles.

Honestly, she wasn’t very hungry, but as Ms. Dunn said, she had to eat even if she didn’t want to. After all, she was the only one holding this family together now.

After eating half the bowl of noodles, Stella stood up to pay the bill. Just as she scanned the QR code on the cashier’s counter, a WeChat message popped up on the screen.

Silas Sutton: Eating alone?

Stella looked back upon seeing the message, and Silas Sutton stood across the street, hands in pockets, leaning on his car door and smiling at her.

Stella pursed her lips slightly, lowered her eyes, and replied to him: Want some? I’ll pack one for you.

Silas Sutton: No. Come out, I’ll take you to see the stars.
