Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Land of Tenderness

Silas Sutton spoke with utter seriousness.

If it weren’t for the mischievous glint in his eyes, Stella Grant might have almost believed him.

After Silas spoke, he lightly brushed his fingertip along the edge of Stella’s little finger, sending a shiver down her spine.

Stella’s eyes involuntarily narrowed, and seeing this, Silas chuckled, "Hmm?"

Stella, "You..."

Silas, "What?"

Stella’s lips moved, "Forget it, I’m not saying it."

Silas teased, "Go on, it won’t hurt to say it."

Stella raised a corner of her mouth and said, "Pretty... brazen... of you."

Silas laughed out loud, "Not too bad."

Confirming that Silas hadn’t misunderstood because of what happened earlier in the ward, Stella decided not to linger in the car, "You head back first, I need to talk to my mom."

As she spoke, Stella took out her house keys and handed them to him.

Silas looked at the keys she offered him but didn’t take them, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Stella, "Are you staying at a hotel tonight?"

Silas chuckled, reached out, and took the keys, "No, I’m not staying at a hotel."

Stella acknowledged with an ’Hmm,’ gave a couple of simple instructions, and turned to open the car door to get out.

Unexpectedly, as soon as her hand touched the car door, Silas grabbed her wrist, pulling her back.

Before she could react, Silas’s hand released her wrist and moved to the back of her neck, leaning in to kiss her.

This time, the kiss Silas gave was different from before, deeply intentional.

The kiss started off fierce and dominant, turned teasing and enticing, and as it was about to end, became entangled and unyielding, as if aiming to drown Stella in his gentle embrace.

When the kiss ended, Silas leaned his forehead against Stella’s and smiled, "Shall I wait for you at home?"

Stella took a shallow breath, adjusting her breathing, "Hmm."

Silas, "What do you want to eat?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Stella, "Can you cook?"

Silas’s lips curled up slightly, "Are you underestimating me?"

Honestly, Stella truly thought Silas was boasting, her mouth curved into a smile, "Anything’s fine, I’m not picky."

Silas squeezed the back of her neck in agreement, "Alright."

Stella got out of the car and returned to the ward, attracting quite a few strange looks from the nephrology department along the way.

Stella returned to the ward, closing the door behind her, shutting out all inquisitive eyes from outside.

Lynn Adler appeared calm on the surface, but deep down she was worried. Seeing Stella, she opened her mouth several times as if wanting to ask something but hesitated, afraid the question might upset her daughter. So, in the end, she said nothing.

Stella understood her mother’s thoughts, approached with a smile, and said, "Silas doesn’t mind."

Lynn asked, "He’s not angry?"

After all, the issue arose from trying to find a kidney donor for her.

Stella shook her head, "No, he’s not someone who can’t distinguish right from wrong."

Lynn sighed, "That’s a relief, that’s good."

Seeing Lynn relax, Stella went up to pour her a glass of water and said, "Mom, with your current health condition, are you able to go out?"

Lynn took the glass and looked up, "Where to?"

Stella straightforwardly said, "Dad said he’s coming back the day after tomorrow."

Lynn’s hand quivered holding the glass, worried that Stella might notice something, she quickly composed herself, "Did you call him?"

Stella knew her mother too well.

She loved Kenneth Grant too deeply; it wasn’t something she could let go of so easily.

Divorce was logical, but resentments lingered in the heart.

It’s not just Lynn; anyone who invested such feelings couldn’t withdraw them swiftly.

Even owning a pet over time fosters emotions, let alone a marriage of twenty years.

Faced with Lynn’s inquiry, Stella didn’t hide, "Yes, I called this morning."

Lynn pursed her lips, "Did he say anything to you?"

Stella wanted her mother to let go, but she couldn’t stand to see her looking hopeless, so she turned around, walked to the water dispenser, poured herself a glass, took a sip, and said, "He told me he’d come back the day after tomorrow, then said not to bother him these next two days as it’s inconvenient for him to take calls."

Lynn tightened her grip and responded through gritted teeth, "Alright, then don’t bother him."

Stella, "I won’t."

Mom, neither should you.

The mother-daughter conversation reached a point where it couldn’t continue.

Ms. Dunn, seeing this, interjected, "If it’s inconvenient to go out, no problem. I’ll rent a wheelchair for Adler from the care station the day after tomorrow, and wherever you need to go, I’ll push her there."

Hearing this, Stella turned to Ms. Dunn and smiled, "Thank you, Mrs. Dunn."

Ms. Dunn waved a hand dismissively, "No need to thank me, it’s my duty."

Stella stayed in the ward with Lynn until nine in the evening, and once she fell asleep, Stella left the ward.

Walking out of the ward door, Stella stepped toward the elevator. While waiting for it, a soft and fragile voice suddenly came from behind, "Is that Miss Grant?"
