Live Stream Treasure Hunt: I Made Profits Million Times Over-Chapter 71 - -My Bad, I Misjudged(2nd update, Cheer me with Power Stones!)
Matt makes his offer: "300,000 StellarCoins!"
Upon hearing this price, Robert nearly bursts with joy.
A shabby old container getting bid up to such a price, all thanks to that kid, Daniel.
Unperturbed, Daniel adds 500 more, "300,500 StellarCoins."
Matt, feeling somewhat peeved, voices his frustration, "Daniel, what’s with you and your measly 500 increment? What are you up to?"
Unbothered, Daniel retorts, "Is there any auction rule that forbids incrementing by only 500?"
Quickly siding with Daniel, Robert interjects, "Absolutely not, if you wish, you all can bid up by only 500."
At this, Matt clams up.
He has an unsettling feeling, an inkling that Daniel isn’t merely attempting to muddle their judgement as Emilia had analyzed.
He feels like a puppet, manipulated and led by the nose.
He whispers to Wilson and Emilia, "We can’t let this go on. I’m going to give it a hard push and see if Daniel still dares to raise his bid."
Without waiting for Wilson and Emilia’s responses, he immediately shouts, "350,000 StellarCoins!" His hefty bid instantly elevates the price.
Daniel can’t help but chuckle inwardly.
It seems the trio has reached their limit.
He decides to make one final bid, and bring this farce to an end. In a casual tone, Daniel states, "350,500 StellarCoins."
No sooner had his words echoed, than a new bid resounds, "360,000 StellarCoins!" It’s the triplet brothers.
They had received 200,000 StellarCoins after mortgaging their house.
It was a familiar process, which made things smoother, and they hurriedly raised their bid.
Matt promptly raises his hand, "370,000 StellarCoins!"
Emboldened by the newfound cash, the brothers immediately follow, "380,000 StellarCoins!"
One of them, the youngest, even taunts Matt, "Old man, this container is ours for the taking!"
Matt gets instantly riled up, raising his bid decisively, "390,000!"
Triplet brothers: "400,000!"
Matt: "410,000!"
Triplets: "420,000!"
Seeing no sign of them backing down, Matt’s eye twitches in annoyance, "450,000!"
"Dare to follow? I’d like to see how much you’ve mortgaged your house for!"
The brothers’ faces suddenly lose their color.
Having mortgaged their house for only 200,000 StellarCoins and adding their savings, their bid of 420,000 was already a stretch.
The eldest clenches his fists in frustration, "How on earth do these bastards have so much money?!"
Now, not only do they have to forgo the container, but they also have to pay a hefty interest on the 200,000 loan.
The brothers’ faces darken, clouded by anger and regret.
Just as Matt is reveling in his victory over the triplets, he feels a tap on his shoulder.
Turning, he sees Wilson, who’s looking rather grim, and even Emilia’s gaze seems off.
Matt, confused, asks, "What’s wrong with you two?"
Wilson points out, "Haven’t you noticed? Daniel hasn’t bid for a while now."
Only then does Matt realize, and as he turns around, the smile on his face freezes.
Where Daniel had once been, now stands no one.
A quick scan of the crowd reveals no sign of him either.

Something’s wrong!
Before he can react, he hears Robert declare, "Congratulations, Matt, you’ve successfully secured this lot!"
Matt immediately starts flailing his arms in protest, "No, no, no! Robert, Daniel hasn’t placed his bid yet. We need to wait for him!"
Robert flatly replies, "We don’t operate like that, Matt. As you know, leaving the auction indicates an automatic forfeit. You now have two options: pay up and open the container, or leave and never come back."
Matt looks back at his two allies.
Both Wilson and Emilia are silent, shaking their heads.
They’ve all bet on the auction for profit; they have no choice but to bite the bullet and pay.
Robert, watching Matt swipe his card, breaks into a smile, "Very well, congratulations, Mr. Matt. Let’s see what treasures you’ve won!"
With a scowl on his face, Matt begrudgingly steps up to the container.
He puts the first box down and starts rummaging through. All he finds are clothes.
Emilia and Wilson also start unpacking boxes, careful not to dump out the contents in case there are fragile items hidden amongst the clothes.
Box by box, they check.
Ten minutes pass, dozens of boxes have been emptied, and a mountain of clothes has formed on the ground.
The number of remaining boxes dwindles, but they’ve yet to uncover anything of value.
Exasperated, Matt vents, "Damn it, is it all just clothes?"
Wilson hauls another box out of the container, placing it on the ground.
Filled with dwindling hope, he opens it, only to find yet another box filled with clothes.
He can’t help but swear, "F*ck! Clothes and more clothes, how much can these be worth?"
The official appraiser, Durant, after a thorough examination and a call to a friend in the clothing business, gives an answer.
"The combined value of these clothes is likely between 90,000 and 130,000."
Even though it’s twice the 60,000 Emilia had estimated, none of them can muster any joy.
Winning the lot with a 450,000 bid means they’re each looking at a loss of about 100,000 StellarCoins.
Emilia is particularly downcast, already 200,000 StellarCoins in the red, she’s struggling to stay afloat.
Just then, she spots Daniel standing at the front of the crowd, "Daniel?"
Hearing Emilia’s call, Matt turns around and seeing Daniel, his eyes almost turn red.
He storms up to Daniel, yelling, "Where the hell did you go, you jerk?"
Daniel shrugs nonchalantly, "Went to the bathroom. Where else?"
Matt asks angrily, "Did you intentionally disappear to avoid bidding?"
Daniel feigns innocence, "Intentionally?"
"What the hell are you talking about? I don’t understand a word," Daniel responded, bewildered.
"I just had a sudden stomach ache and went to the restroom. If I wanted to stop bidding, I could have just done it. Why would I need to find an excuse to leave?" His discomfort had been genuine, but it had just so happened to coincide with his desire to back out of the bidding.
Infuriated, Matt retorted, "You jerk! Because of you, we each lost 100,000 StellarCoins. This container is not worth that much, why did you keep driving up the price?"
Surprised, Daniel replied, "It’s not worth that much? Damn Robert and his big mouth. I thought there were antiques inside based on what he said. My bad. I misjudged it."
His remark elicited headshakes from the other treasure hunters.
It wasn’t a simple case of misjudgment.
He had made a bad gamble, but it was Matt and his friends who ended up shouldering the cost.
It seemed that the so-called appraisal expert was nothing more than a blind guesser.
Matt didn’t believe a word that Daniel said.
But there was nothing he could say, because they had voluntarily decided to bid higher.
If he had known it would turn out like this, he would never have trusted Daniel’s crap appraisal skills.
Frustrated, Matt returned to the container to continue sorting through the goods, while the other treasure hunters, who had been spectators, followed Robert to find the next container to auction.
As the triplets left, they thanked Matt.
It wasn’t sarcastic.
They had even put their house up for mortgage for the container.
Luckily, Matt took the container on his own, saving them from bankruptcy.
"What a good man," the third triplet sighed.
"He lost money just to prevent us from going bankrupt."
The eldest sibling added, "Thank goodness for Matt and his team. Otherwise, I don’t know where we’d be."
The second sibling confessed, "I don’t know about you guys, but I would have definitely lost my mind."
Looking at Matt, Wilson, and Emilia hunched over on the ground, Daniel felt no guilt.
After all, they had bid higher themselves; it had nothing to do with him.
What Daniel did was just to teach them a lesson.
Just once, and no one would dare to follow his bids in the future.
In the live streaming room, the online audience cheered.
"Damn right! Good job!" one wrote.
"This is exactly what they deserve. They should never dare to sneakily follow your bids again."
Another commented, "Either they pay you to appraise, or they should honestly bid themselves. Want to freeload? Not a chance!"
"Can I ask if the streamer did this on purpose?" one asked tentatively.
As Daniel followed the crowd, he laughed and said, "Of course not. I just misread it." No one in the streaming room believed his words.
Robert led the group to the next prepared container and slapped it.
"Ladies and gentlemen! This next container is interesting. It was shipped from Gambling City and due to some disputes, it was unclaimed, so it’s up for auction. As usual, we’re giving you some time to observe."
Hearing this, all the treasure hunters swarmed over, including the heartbroken trio – Matt, Emilia, and Wilson – who had just finished dealing with the clothes and hastily rushed over.
