Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 253: Another Group Arrives
Xu Yi pulled Lu Ke behind a big tree, then observed the situation with the monkeys.
"This, shouldn’t be Raccoon Monkeys, right?" Lu Ke was still somewhat troubled by Raccoon Monkeys, especially given their large numbers. So, she asked quietly.
"No, they’re ordinary monkeys. They look almost like macaques from our world but are much bigger, at least a meter tall." Xu Yi mentioned based on what he observed.
"I wonder if they are aggressive, are they carnivores?" Lu Ke also poked her head out and took a look.
"Hard to say, there are quite a few of them, let’s watch a bit." Xu Yi was unsure, then began searching around.
If they were normal monkeys, they should be quite timid and would flee from any unusual situation.
Therefore, Xu Yi wanted to find a few suitable-sized stones to probe.
Given the distance of forty to fifty meters, if these monkeys behaved fiercely like Raccoon Monkeys, they would still have time to retreat.
Soon, Xu Yi found some suitable stones.
Lu Ke understood Xu Yi’s plan and helped by picking up a few pieces.
"If something seems off, let’s leave. Animals here can’t be understood using our world’s logic. Maybe, monkeys here are carnivorous." Xu Yi explained quietly, though he hoped these monkeys were ordinary.
In that case, he and Lu Ke could pick mangoes to eat. Moreover, they could dry a lot of mangoes.
That mango tree looked big, with plenty of mangoes, enough to make many dried mango slices.
Lu Ke nodded and was ready to flee.
Then Xu Yi weighed the stone in his hand and threw it directly.
A monkey on the tree was struck down, letting out a series of screams.
"Xu Yi’s arm strength is this strong now? Knocking down a monkey from about fifty meters away, who needs any weapons, just throw stones directly."
"A bit closer, I feel like he could straight up kill one, it’s like having a real Qilin arm here."
"His arms don’t even have much muscle, how’s the power this strong?"
Xu Yi looked at his arm, then at the fleeing monkey group in the distance.
It was clear he hadn’t expected to be able to knock a monkey down from that far.
"Are they carnivorous?" Lu Ke asked; she felt that monkey should be dead, having fallen from a height of over ten meters.
"Probably not, didn’t hear any indication. Let’s go, have a look." Xu Yi said and started walking toward the mango tree.
When they reached beneath the tree, he and Lu Ke didn’t see the fallen monkey.
Needless to say, it must have been taken by its companions.
The ground was littered with many mangoes, mostly bitten, and numerous broken branches.
It could be said that most monkeys behaved this way, with low utilization rates of wild fruit, thus having a broad foraging range.
Had Xu Yi and Lu Ke not appeared, the mangoes on the tree would soon be ravaged by those monkeys.
"These monkeys are too wasteful, just a small bite and they abandon it." Lu Ke said a bit regretfully after picking up a few mangoes.
"That’s monkey nature, greedily foraging wild fruit, snatching and discarding as they go." Xu Yi said as he climbed onto the tree, ready to pick mangoes.
"Here, catch." Xu Yi tossed one to Lu Ke, these mangoes were large and had a red peel, emitting a strong fragrance.
Lu Ke caught it and placed it in the basket, partnering with Xu Yi; in less than an hour, they filled both baskets. Yet, there were still plenty of mangoes on the tree.
However, their baskets were full, they needed to come back for another round.
"Xu Yi, this is so sweet, very juicy, and not fibrous at all, simply top quality!" Lu Ke handed Xu Yi a slice of cut mango after he came down from the tree, her mouth was still full of mango juice.
Xu Yi took a bite and immediately gave a thumbs-up.
It was indeed delicious, so they went on to eat several more, filling up their stomachs.
"Let’s go, it’s only ten o’clock, we’ll go back first, then come back for two more rounds." Xu Yi said as he carried the basket, mangoes are relatively easy to store, especially the unripe ones, keeping them for a month or two is no problem.
Additionally, the ripe ones can be dried, extending their storage life even further.
Therefore, these mangoes are truly good stuff.
Encountering them, Xu Yi wouldn’t forgive himself if he didn’t bring them all back.
Thus, Xu Yi and Lu Ke carried two baskets of mangoes back to the camp then prepared to continue harvesting.
Inside the tree hole, Wang Jin bit into a piece of dried mango, then looked at the playful Giant Wolves outside.
"Sis, these Giant Wolves are really persistent, they just won’t leave." Wang Jin said quite disgruntled, she hadn’t stayed indoors for this long in ages.
No internet, no games, being cooped up at home was super dull.
She would rather go out to dig wild vegetables than be stuck here.
"Look at that one over there, it should be pregnant, so they might stay a bit longer." Lu Yao pointed at a Giant Wolf in the distance, its belly evidently larger.
Following her gaze, Wang Jin realized it.
"You think if we kill that one Giant Wolf, we’ll get loads of points?" Wang Jin’s eyes lit up but soon dimmed.
"Theoretically that’s how it should be, but what really happens can only be known if we try." Lu Yao said with a laugh.
Seeing Lu Yao’s expression, Wang Jin was momentarily stunned.
Then she looked outside.
At the perimeter, other animals appeared.
All the Giant Wolves immediately became alert, watching the beasts that appeared.
"What kind of animals are these, they look a bit like... leopards, but they’re all covered in scales, might be tough to deal with." Wang Jin said fearfully watching these leopard-like creatures.
She felt these scale-armored leopards were even more frightening than the Giant Wolves.
"Probably mutated leopards; there are many such animals on this planet." Lu Yao was also somewhat worried; these leopards appeared very nimble.
If the Giant Wolves lost, she and Wang Jin would be in trouble.
Ultimately, leopards are skilled climbers, most sleeping in trees.
The issue is leopards are usually solitary, here there are dozens moving together.
She was more and more confused by this planet’s animal situation, feeling much of her knowledge about wildlife was wasted. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Will they fight?" Wang Jin asked, somewhat hoping for a clash between the two sides. This way, she and Lu Yao could benefit from the chaos.
