Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 36: Come and Catch Them
"Hang in there a little longer. The air is getting a bit humid, there must be a water source nearby." Lu Yao couldn’t give up; this was just a minor challenge.
"Sis, you’ve been saying this for ages, but we still haven’t found any water." Wang Jin didn’t believe there was water; she had believed Lu Yao’s words too much.
"Wait, listen." Lu Yao was about to carry Wang Jin on her back when she suddenly heard a sound.
"Water, it’s the sound of water, we found water." Wang Jin suddenly got excited, and her stomach seemed to stop hurting as she ran towards the sound of the water.
"A small river, there’s a small river here. Oh my god, we have water now." Seeing the river, Wang Jin immediately shouted excitedly.
Lu Yao also breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, they found water; otherwise, they really couldn’t hold on any longer.
"Wait, you can’t drink untreated water; it must be boiled first." Lu Yao saw Wang Jin stepping into the river, scooping up a handful of water ready to drink, and quickly stopped her.
"Sis, didn’t you say running water could be drunk? This stream is quite flowing and so clear, why can’t we drink it?" Wang Jin stopped, puzzled, and glanced back.
"Better safe than sorry. After all, this is an alien planet, so it might not be safe." Lu Yao said cautiously, as they had matches and didn’t fear not being able to start a fire.
"Alright, give me the pot, I’ll fill it with water, and by the way... Ah, there’s fish, sis, there are fish here, come and catch them." Wang Jin shouted excitedly. After all, wild vegetables weren’t filling, and she was already hungry.
Lu Yao immediately cut a branch and sharpened one end.
Lu Yao speared fish, showing more expertise than Xu Yi.
With just one thrust, she caught one directly.
"So big, it must weigh at least a pound." Wang Jin exclaimed excitedly, feeling her stomach no longer hurting.
"You go boil water, I’ll catch a few more." Lu Yao was also very happy, after all, without protein supplementation, she didn’t have the strength for physical work.
"Okay, okay, I’ll go boil water, we have fish to eat." Wang Jin suddenly got enthusiastic, went across the bank, and gathered some firewood to start a fire.
Then, she stacked some stones to make a small stove, put the pot on it, and began boiling water.
She boiled water while watching Lu Yao spear fish.
After spearing six fish, Lu Yao stopped.
Because she planned to camp nearby; there was no need to exhaust all resources. If left, they could eat more later.
Besides, she found not only fish in the water but also crabs and freshwater shrimp.
Soon, she processed the six fish, deciding to grill five and use the remaining one for soup.
After cutting a few branches, Lu Yao strung the fish.
The sky was also getting dark, signaling the start of danger.
"The same fish, but why do I feel that Xu Yi and Loli Ke are enjoying themselves, while Wanzi and Lu Yao are suffering?"
"Exactly, Loli Ke eats so well and enjoys it, but Wanzi and Lu Yao have to be cautious of potential dangers."
"They’re lucky at least they found a water source. Our goddess Ivica hasn’t found water yet, and Lei Jie has been out for two days without returning."
"Lei Jie went looking for water and a campsite; his return means he succeeded. As they haven’t been eliminated, it means Lei Jie encountered no danger."
"Lei Jie is special forces; finding water and a campsite is no problem for him."
"Let’s hope Lei Jie returns soon; Ivica looks about to turn into a longing-for-home stone."
While everyone was discussing, Lu Yao raised a torch and examined a spot.
There was a depression, a mud pit. If the soil was firm enough, they could camp there.
After all, the pit was wide enough; if not deep enough, they could dig it out.
If suitable, they would only need a rooftop and a wall for shelter.
"How about the place I found, sis?" Wang Jin shouted loudly. She found the spot while she was about to relieve herself.
"It’s good, a very ideal location for a camp. We’ll sleep in hammocks for another day, and start building the shelter tomorrow." Lu Yao tested with her makeshift tool and found the soil was firm enough not to worry about collapse.
"Great, we have a camp, water source, and fish to eat. We’re pretty stable this wave." Wang Jin excitedly turned the fish skewers. The fish oil kept dripping into the fire, making a sizzling sound.
"Sis, it’s ready to eat. Come over; it’s the best fish I’ve ever tasted." Wang Jin shouted, then continued eating.
"Xu Yi, does this knife sheath I carved look good?" Lu Ke took two pieces of wood, combined them, and placed her knife inside.
"It looks much better than mine." Xu Yi grinned. After dinner, Lu Ke and he started carving sheaths for their knives.
After all, the knife was sharp, and having a sheath was convenient.
"You can wrap the outside with snake skin to make it look better." Lu Ke nodded in satisfaction, quite pleased with her work. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"By the way, we can make two pairs of gloves from the snake skin, one pair for each of us, and use the rest to make a belt." Xu Yi planned for the snake skin, as he needed a new belt.
"Alright, leave that to me. You just carve a thinner wooden needle for me." Lu Ke cut off the snake skin’s tail to wrap their knife sheaths.
For his machete, Xu Yi said they could just make it a short, belt-like sheath. Usually, he kept his knife in hand, rarely hanging it on his body.
"No problem, leave it to me." Xu Yi grinned, then rummaged through the fish bones. Fish bone needles were nice, easier to make than wooden ones.
The fish bones from the caught fish were hard enough, likely good to use as needles.
Just the thread hole part was challenging, requiring patience and prone to failure.
Xu Yi didn’t lack patience, just the success rate was a bit low.
He spoiled four before succeeding with the fifth one.
"Look, how about this fish bone needle." Xu Yi said as he handed the slightly curved fish bone needle to Lu Ke.
Lu Ke had finished with the knife sheath and was using water and soil.
The previous clay stove collapsed, but the clay could be reused.
So, Lu Ke planned to make some clay bricks.
"Wow, you actually made a fish bone needle; amazing." Lu Ke exclaimed, surprised. She had considered it but gave up because drilling holes was too hard.
But unexpectedly, Xu Yi managed to make one.
