Love Across the Light Years -The Devil CEO Indulges My Lies.-Chapter 56: Never truly considered being with you.
Felix didn’t need to ask to know who his brother was referring to.
Still, he couldn’t help but hesitate.
Karl was the youngest. And although he had indeed done something that deserved punishment, Felix knew he wouldn’t be able to survive their older brother’s wrath.
"Brother, he actually didn’t mean to. It was all out of —"
Before he could finish, a soft click of the door made him pause.
He turned toward the bathroom just as the sliding door opened once again.
Adelyn stepped out.
She was wrapped in a soft dove-grey knit dress.
Felix paused for a second when he saw one of his own creations on her. He had received praise for his designs countless times before, but none of it felt quite the same as seeing it worn by Adelyn.
It was as though her figure and natural grace brought out every charm the dress had been designed with.
He had been careful while selecting the outfit, but his intention had simply been to pick something quick to wear —something without complicated fastenings.
He hadn’t deliberately searched for something that would look especially good on her.
Yet somehow, it did.
Adelyn walked back into the room with her quiet confidence. Her demeanor seemed far more relaxed now, as if she had finally accepted the strange situation, she had found herself in.
When she stopped near Felix, she turned to him with a soft, grateful smile.
"Thank you for bringing me this dress."
Felix looked at her as though he wanted to apologize for something. However, he stopped himself when he noticed his older brother rising to his feet.
His gaze instinctively shifted toward Dylan in confusion as he watched him walk toward Adelyn.
Perhaps the confusion stemmed from the fact that he had never seen Dylan approach a woman with such gentleness on his face before.
Even Adelyn paused when she noticed him coming closer. She had no idea what he intended to do next.
Subconsciously, she almost stepped back.
But then she stopped herself.
Running away was no longer an option.
The damage had already been done in every possible way. Now, all she could do was face the consequences.
Her eyes remained fixed on his as he slowly crouched down in front of her.
His hand reached toward the box that had been sitting nearby the entire time, unnoticed.
When he lifted the lid, a simple pair of pointed nude flats was revealed inside —elegant, yet understated.
"This ..."
Before she could ask anything —
Dylan calmly took the shoes out of the box and placed them neatly in front of her feet.
Then he lifted his gaze toward her and silently gestured for her to put them on.
Adelyn hesitated.
"Mr. Warren, you don’t have to. I can do it ... myself."
But he didn’t move.
Seeing that he clearly had no intention of standing up, she reluctantly slipped her feet into the flats.
The moment she did, Dylan leaned forward and adjusted the straps around her ankles with quite precision.
Once he was finished, he looked up again, his gaze lingering briefly —as if making sure she felt comfortable in them.
Their eyes met.
For a moment, neither of them looked away.
But soon, Adelyn realized what she was doing.
She broke her gaze in haste, turning toward Felix with a faint flush on her face.
"Thank you once again. The dress fits very comfortably, and even the flats are —"
"Ms. Grace, please don’t thank me," Felix interrupted gently. "I was only following my brother’s orders."
His gaze flicked briefly toward Dylan.
Adelyn blinked in surprise.
She turned toward Dylan, watching him rise back to his full height.
"Mr. Warren, you ..."
"Given our current status, it’s only fair that I prepare these small things for you," he said calmly. "Do you mind, Ms. Grace?"
She shook her head, momentarily stunned.
How could she possibly mind?
Earlier, while she was inside the bathroom, she had taken the time to revisit everything that had happened.
After everything she had done last night —after the lies she had spun and the way she had dragged him into this situation —he had shown nothing but patience and consideration.
Instead of anger, he had treated her with gentleness she hadn’t expected.
The least she could feel was gratitude.
How could she bring herself to blame him?
"If there is nothing else," Felix said softly. "I will first take my leave."
He glanced once at Dylan before turning to walk out. He didn’t want to stay and interrupt something he shouldn’t.
However, as he was striding out, he paused briefly and glanced back over his shoulder.
He might not yet know what exactly had happened last night.
But he had realized one thing.
His brother’s attitude was unmistakably different around Ms. Grace.
After Felix left, Adelyn turned back to Dylan.
She hesitated for a moment, gathering her thoughts and carefully organizing them before speaking.
"Mr. Warren, I think I need to apologize to you properly."
She paused briefly before continuing.
"No matter what condition I was in or what ... feelings I hold for you in my heart —that doesn’t justify my audacity towards you. I have offended you, and for that I am truly sorry."
Dylan simply watched her.
He said nothing.
When several seconds passed without a response, Adelyn continued with the next part of the speech she had prepared.
Clearing her throat softly, she spoke again.
"Apart from this, there is one more thing that I wanted to tell you. It’s regarding the relationship we agreed to. I hope you will try to understand my reasons. And if not ... we can reconsider everything again."
Dylan’s eyes narrowed dangerously when he heard her.
However, the reaction lasted only for a brief second before disappearing.
After studying the girl in front of him, he said calmly.
"Go on."
Adelyn glanced at him.
Even though he had been nothing but refined, polite and gentle around her, she couldn’t shake the nervousness she felt in his presence.
As if there was something about him that always kept her on edge.
"Mr. Warren, before we start anything, I need to tell you that I never truly considered being with you."
It was the first truth she spoke in a long while.
And finally saying it out loud —made her feel strangely lighter.
However —
Before she could even savor the relief, a sudden sense of foreboding crept down her spine, making her instinctively straighten.
Because the moment the words left her lips, the air in the room turned cold. `
