Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 122 - 119: Plan to Kidnap
Chapter 122: Chapter 119: Plan to Kidnap
The class reunion didn’t break up until midnight.
Classmates started to head home, each to their own and each to their mother.
Once Qi Yi and Yan Yan got home, they both went straight to bed.
Yan Yan did so because her biological clock had already reached bedtime, whereas Qi Yi hadn’t slept much since returning to the country. That way, he could adjust his jet lag a bit, since the only time he and Yan Yan could enjoy each other’s company was on Sundays.
Qi Yi woke up earlier than Yan Yan. After finishing the electronic file for Yan Yan’s letter, he texted her:
I’m up. When you see this message, let me know, and I’ll bring the letter to you.
Qi Yi had just sent the message when Yan Yan’s call came in.
"Wow, Grandpa, when did you get up?" Yan Yan asked enthusiastically, her voice revealing she was anything but freshly awoken.
"About, two hours ago? Just finished organizing the letters." Qi Yi didn’t check the exact time.
"Ah? You’ve been up and you didn’t miss me? Telling me only now!" Yan Yan asked with a tone that was both gloomy and cute.
"You probably went to bed around one or two in the morning, right? I was afraid you wouldn’t be awake yet, wanted to let you sleep a bit more." If Qi Yi had known Yan Yan could get up so early, he never would have waited until now to text.
"What are you saying, sleep can be done anytime, but my boyfriend is about to fly to the United States to go mining, how can you, Grandpa, live to this ripe old age without understanding priorities?" Yan Yan continued playfully.
"Fair point! How could your grandpa do this? Wait until I meet him, and I’ll give him a good teaching on your behalf~" Qi Yi replied in Yan Yan’s playful tone.
"What’s that? You dare to give my grandpa a lesson? Really? Should I go downstairs and let my dad know right now?" Yan Yan responded in mock shock.
"Sure, go tell him. Just tell your dad that his son-in-law is about to come knocking, and if dear father-in-law plans to bring grandpa along to scrutinize his grand-daughter-in-law, I am all for it." Qi Yi had long grown accustomed to Yan Yan’s dramatic antics.
For someone like Chu Ying, an "honest person," Yan Yan’s current way of speaking was totally indisputable, but for Qi Yi, it was part of the charm that made their relationship more flavorful than back in high school.
....................
"Xiao Qizi, did you miss your master after you went back yesterday?" Upon meeting, Yan Yan’s first reaction was to ask a question, while Qi Yi’s was to hold hands.
"The master must have missed me more." Qi Yi shamelessly replied.
"Really? How did you figure that out? Tell me about it, let the master see if there’s any logic to it." Yan Yan let Qi Yi finish his teasing.
"No need to calculate, we only separated this morning. The question you just asked made it seem as if we haven’t seen each other since yesterday up until now. If I had come out even later, the master would have felt like a day apart was like three autumns, right?" By the end of his sentence, Qi Yi’s words had taken on a poetic flourish.
"Well said, there’s quite some sense to it," Yan Yan’s ability to play along had also improved immensely, and she didn’t stop there, following up with, "I’ve missed our little Qi Yi so much, my heart’s nearly broken."
"Broken heart? What’s that all about?" Qi Yi let go of Yan Yan’s hand and decided to try walking with his arm around his girlfriend.
"It’s a clumsy expression, babe. I missed you so much, I didn’t even eat breakfast and ran out here, probably a hunger-inspired idea." Yan Yan looked at Qi Yi with pitiful big eyes.
"Didn’t have breakfast? Then did you brush your teeth?" Qi Yi was not immediately inclined to take Yan Yan for breakfast.
Yan Yan glared at Qi Yi and announced her latest decree: "I’ve decided, as of today, to leave brushing my teeth in the long river of history."
"That sounds great," Qi Yi nodded in agreement.
Looking at Qi Yi, Yan Yan’s eyes clearly conveyed the message "Why is little Qi Yi out of brains again?"
Qi Yi also looked at Yan Yan and took a moment before speaking:
"You brushed your teeth today, you’re with me today.
For the next few months, you’re in the unregulated Southern Hemisphere.
Whatever biochemical weapons you want to unleash on anyone, I’m all for it.
So, please, do as you say."
"That’s so gross! Why do you keep giving me the creeps nowadays? You never used to be like this," Yan Yan turned and took a few steps back.
The arm Qi Yi had around her shoulders was suddenly empty.
"You also weren’t like this before, either. It’s a mutual change; we’re even," Qi Yi walked up next to Yan Yan.
Walking with an arm around her wasn’t as good as holding hands. Qi Yi quickly concluded and promptly implemented the best approach—he took Yan Yan’s hand once again.
"When are you going to Italy?" Qi Yi asked Yan Yan.
"In February." Yan Yan started swinging the hand that Qi Yi was holding as they walked.
"So that means, in mid-December, after I attend your graduation ceremony, I can directly whisk you away to New York?" Qi Yi looked at Yan Yan with hopeful eyes.
When Yan Yan had preached to Qi Yi about "if you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile," Qi Yi hadn’t taken it seriously. Now he realized that the teachings from Yan Yan’s household were quite philosophical.
While Yan Yan had not yet confirmed whether she could be in the United States by next August, Qi Yi’s most frequent thought each day was that it would be wonderful if Yan Yan could come in August.
But once Yan Yan confirmed her plans to advance her studies in New York, Qi Yi started to feel that the wait until next August was far too long.
Qi Yi wanted to whisk Yan Yan away as early as possible. Even if he couldn’t bring Yan Yan directly to the United States, he at least wanted to snatch away a holiday’s worth of time.
"Uh... In my heart, I sincerely hope to be the one taken, uh... no, that’s not right, the taken woman, that doesn’t sound right either... the taken girl, yes, that’s correct.
But you see, my parents will come to my graduation ceremony, probably with my uncle’s family too.
Then, my parents have bought a property in Melbourne, and we might have to spend New Year’s there, sorting out the house.
Tomorrow morning, when you go to Shanghai, I have to go to Guangzhou with my parents, then to Foshan to look at furniture, and take a Southern Airlines flight back to Melbourne in the evening." Although several months remained until the end of the year, Qi Yi’s plan to whisk Yan Yan away already seemed to have a slim chance at this point.
