Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 149 - 146 Preparing for Battle
Chapter 149: Chapter 146 Preparing for Battle
"Festivals" are just like that, often possessing a special magic that makes people do things they usually wouldn’t do, wear clothes they typically wouldn’t wear.
Qi Yi, who was adept at solving problems, naturally thought of the solution to wear the clothes Yan Yan had given him before.
Even Qi Yi wasn’t quite sure why he brought this particular piece of clothing to Melbourne, but in the end, he stuffed it into his suitcase at the last moment.
For Qi Yi, he might have simply thought that he should carry with him the first gift his girlfriend gave him after their reunion.
Qi Yi surely never expected that he would actually wear such clothing out in public when he brought it to Melbourne.
Strangely enough, when Qi Yi, dressed in his odd outfit, walked toward Federation Square once again, the "live audience" seemed to think he had some important business to attend to. They were very kind and friendly, making way for him so that the late-arriving Qi Yi smoothly made his way to the front row of the crowd.
Qi Yi was the type of person who was very focused. When he was intent on doing something, he would tend to ignore other less important matters.
At this moment, Qi Yi was single-minded, focused on making sure Yan Yan could spot him in the crowd.
The graduation parade of RMIT usually had the school band leading the procession at the forefront, marching along while playing instruments and beating drums.
Leading the parade, adorned in glittering academic robes, were the school leaders’ squad.
The principal took the lead; he was headed to Federation Square to welcome this year’s graduates.
Qi Yi’s efforts quickly paid off. When the people from the Design and Social Context, wearing silver-collared black robes, reached the end of the parade, Yan Yan instantly noticed her own "handiwork," along with Qi Yi dressed in the combined high school years of both of their pasts.
Yan Yan hadn’t expected Qi Yi to seek her attention in such a manner.
Their eyes met unexpectedly amidst the "vast sea of people." Yan Yan was surprised and excited. She quickly moved toward where her boyfriend was standing, stood on tiptoe, reached up, and hugged Qi Yi’s face to plant a forceful kiss on his cheek, the loud and exaggerated kind on purpose.
After Yan Yan "completed her mission," she continued marching onward to complete the final small journey of her graduation parade.
Qi Yi was also happy; his strategy of wearing odd clothing worked even better than he had imagined.
While Qi Yi was still basking in the joy of just being "bullied" by Yan Yan, someone tapped on his shoulder from behind.
At that moment, Qi Yi’s attention was still entirely on Yan Yan.
Initially, when someone tapped him, Qi Yi didn’t turn around or even notice, as it was common in the crowd to accidentally bump into someone’s shoulder.
But shortly after, he was tapped again, and finally, with some reluctance, he decided to pause his focused attention on Yan Yan and turn around to see who it was.
The person who tapped Qi Yi on the shoulder was a middle-aged man with a displeased expression.
Seeing Qi Yi turn around, the lady beside the middle-aged man, with a smile on her face, asked, "Are you Qi Yi?"
Qi Yi was instantly stupefied.
At this moment, dressed in his peculiar outfit, he had just been subject to Yan Yan’s "indecent act."
Qi Yi had just walked forward from the back when this middle-aged couple had also made way for him.
Everyone in the square seemed to intuitively let Qi Yi pass first.
Qi Yi was a bit embarrassed at the time, but after thanking people, he walked on; he had no reason to refuse everyone’s kindness.
So there he was, standing in the front row, with the middle-aged couple positioned slightly behind.
Just now, when Yan Yan’s eyes had been caught by her "entire high school era," it was clear she hadn’t seen her overly excited father, Yan Dabang, who thought his daughter was coming over to greet him.
This way, not only were Yan Dabang’s hopes dashed, but he also witnessed his daughter being "taken advantage of" by someone else.
Yan Yan’s father automatically overlooked the fact that it was Yan Yan who had initiated the kiss with Qi Yi.
Witnessing such an event unfold before his eyes, Yan Dabang was displeased.
As a father, Yan Dabang’s feelings were quite normal.
Qi Yi, just moments ago, was so focused on making sure Yan Yan found him that he hadn’t continued to consider that today was also the day he was meeting her parents.
Originally, Qi Yi had planned to take off his "bizarre outfit" and hold it in his hand after Yan Yan found him.
Qi Yi had never expected to meet her parents under these circumstances; it was certainly a low-probability event.
Qi Yi didn’t know how to respond to the "fiercely observant" Dad Yan, thankfully, the smiling Mrs. Yan seemed much easier to communicate with.
"Auntie, hello, I’m Qi Yi." Qi Yi also wore a full smile, which to others might appear quite bright, but only he knew how awkward he felt.
"The clothes you’re wearing are quite special." Lu Bingran had an innate sensitivity to "fashion," and she had passed this fashionable gene on to Yan Yan quite well.
"This outfit, well..." Qi Yi didn’t know how to respond at the moment, feeling a mix of nervousness and the panic of a sudden parent meet.
However, Qi Yi was the type of person who, even on a debate stage, when asked the most tricky or contentious questions, could still handle them with ease.
Quickly adjusting his mentality, Qi Yi entered the "preparation" mode for meeting the parents.
"This was designed by Yan Yan; she’s recreated the teaching building of Wenzhou High School on it. Yan Yan is graduating today, so I thought it fitting to wear something related to the school." Qi Yi had meant to say that Yan Yan made him wear it, but since they hadn’t agreed on this beforehand, he could easily give himself away if he spoke carelessly.
So Qi Yi’s answer was intentionally vague. While speaking, he casually took off his clothes and handed them over to Mrs. Yan, who was clearly interested in her daughter’s design, for a closer look.
Qi Yi acted quickly and achieved two things at once: he alleviated his own embarrassment over the unusual attire and satisfied Mrs. Yan’s curiosity about her daughter’s design.
"When did Yan Yan design something like this? I’ve never seen it before." Mrs. Yan examined the garment closely, turning it over several times with great interest.
"Yan Yan mentioned before that this was her first attempt at making clothes and that she wanted to use me as a guinea pig." Qi Yi spoke the truth, and no matter whether Yan Yan had made clothes for her family before, placing himself in the position of a guinea pig was definitely a safe bet.
Qi Yi and Yan Yan never beat around the bush when talking; they said whatever was on their minds. But meeting the parents was naturally a different story.
