Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 204 - 201 Advance Notice
Chapter 204: Chapter 201 Advance Notice
Qi Yi finished reading the "confession" email from Yan Yan, feeling both elated and depressed.
The reason for his happiness goes without saying.
The depressing part for Qi Yi was his inability to understand why he had been like last night.
It had been a long time since he had felt so unsure about his feelings for Yan Yan.
Was it because Yan Yan hadn’t seriously confessed to him in so long? Or was it something else?
Yan Yan would be coming to New York in a few months, so he should have more confidence in their relationship.
However, looking at it from another angle, Qi Yi was pleased with the outcome of his excessive sensitivity.
Although various things weighed on his mind, Qi Yi hadn’t slept a wink all night.
But if a sleepless night could result in such a heartfelt confession from Yan Yan, sleep was hardly an issue.
Qi Yi called Yan Yan after reading the email.
"Aren’t you supposed to be at work? Why are you sending emails and making calls? You might be quitting, but you still have to hand over your work properly and finish your last shift, right?" Yan Yan bombarded him with a series of questions.
Yan Yan’s motive was clear; she didn’t want to discuss the content of the email she had just written.
Confessing feelings was something you could do in a letter, but to say it out loud didn’t quite fit Yan Yan’s current persona.
Yan Yan couldn’t bring herself to utter such cheesy lines out loud.
She could tease incessantly, but when it came to confessions, a mere hint was more Yan Yan’s style.
"I overslept this morning without your long-distance wake-up call and your good morning, so I thought since I can’t dig for coal today, I’d write you another letter," Qi Yi said with his own artfulness.
He didn’t even like his anxious demeanor from the night before.
Qi Yi knew Yan Yan asked all these questions to avoid discussing the content of the email she had just sent, so he didn’t press her immediately.
Sometimes, playing dumb was the smart move.
If Yan Yan’s confession had been spoken, Qi Yi would have definitely needed to confirm that he hadn’t misheard.
But since it was written, he could review it anytime.
Girlfriends’ letters with such unexpected affection were best for "savoring alone."
"You’ve really taken up letter writing lately, huh? Two letters in one day, and I think this is the first time ever—by the way, I haven’t even read ’The Battle of Versailles’ yet, when did you buy it? Remember to bring the book when you come to see me," Yan Yan’s tone was laced with excitement as she asked.
Just thinking about Qi Yi’s call mentioning he would visit her in Italy after quitting his job filled her with joy.
She just didn’t know how long Qi Yi’s short break after quitting would be.
"If you don’t write to me, I have to help write yours too," Qi Yi was getting used to occasionally speaking to Yan Yan in this coquettish tone.
"Oh? So it works like that? That’s really enlightening. Then you should write two letters every day from now on. Good habits should be maintained, you know?" Yan Yan spoke to Qi Yi with a mature yet playful voice.
Yan Yan was quite pleased with Qi Yi’s explanation for writing two letters in a row and didn’t mind his presumptuous behavior at all.
"So basically, you’re saying you’re not planning on writing to me properly anymore, is that it?" Qi Yi’s ’little wife’ act came on strong again, and he was obviously twisting Yan Yan’s words intentionally.
"Didn’t I just write to you? Don’t tell me you haven’t read my letter yet?
That’s not like you—
Well, that’s fine. The letter I just wrote should keep you busy for a while." Yan Yan clearly remembered she had written her letter quite "well."
That was the most emotionally charged email she had written to Qi Yi that morning, without even having brushed her teeth yet, more naked in content than the "Tombstone Inscription" she once composed.
Qi Yi had no reason to feel she hadn’t written him a "proper" letter after reading it.
"But my eyes are sore," Qi Yi expressed his current condition wasn’t conducive to reading emails.
"Ah? Why? What did you do to make your eyes sore? Did you stay up all night reading or something?" Yan Yan was somewhat concerned.
"I didn’t read. I just stayed up all night thinking of you, that’s why my eyes became too sore to look at emails," Qi Yi spoke to Yan Yan with a particularly earnest tone.
"Is it that serious? Why would you stay up all night for no reason? Didn’t you just say you overslept, and now you’re saying you stayed up all night? You should go and rest a bit."
Yan Yan had never heard of anyone getting sore eyes from simply thinking about someone.
"I don’t need to rest," Qi Yi’s tone remained incredibly serious.
"Then what do you need? Do you want to go out and buy some eye drops?" Yan Yan felt something was off but still continued to express her concern.
"No need to buy any, I just need... someone to read the email to me, that’s all," Qi Yi finally conveyed his request to Yan Yan.
"Uh, hehe, hehehe, you can keep pretending," Yan Yan was surprised she could believe that the words "sore eyes" could come out of Qi Yi’s mouth on a New York morning.
"Now that you’ve uncovered my ruse, how can I keep pretending?" Qi Yi finally didn’t need to keep speaking in a serious tone.
"What do you think about the history of fashion in the United States? You didn’t finish that letter just now, did you?" Yan Yan decided to change the subject to something she was more interested in.
"I did finish it, just one question left," Qi Yi would not easily admit the mood with which he had written that email that morning.
"That’s finished? What does the term ’barely emerging’ at the end mean? Where did the word ’corner’ go?" Yan Yan’s tone was filled with disbelief.
"I haven’t eaten breakfast yet, I guess I must have eaten it like a water chestnut ’corner’ or a crunchy ’corner’," Qi Yi quickly came up with an answer.
"You can do that? My grandpa, you’re incredible," Yan Yan’s face was filled with "reverence."
"Of course, you haven’t had breakfast either, have you? Hurry up and find something to eat, fatten yourself up a bit, I’ll come to see you," Qi Yi said, reluctantly preparing to hang up the phone.
"So I have to gain weight before you come? Then you might have to wait ten or eight years.
Anyway, I received a message on my other phone.
Senior Brother Lei asked me if I need him to help me get an Italian SIM card.
Just letting you know in advance, so we can decide how to reply to the message.
Otherwise, you can draft the message and send it to me, and I’ll forward it to Senior Brother Lei.
I’ll tidy up and go out for food, see if the land of pizza has any good pizza," after discussing the message, Yan Yan finally hung up the phone.
A person’s sense of security in a relationship is partly innate, partly depends on their family environment growing up, and the remaining part is related to the first person they date.
If they grew up in a discordant family and were hurt by their first boyfriend/girlfriend, then a lack of security could become a permanent trait.
Qi Yi’s sense of security in the future would depend on Yan Yan since his previous two factors, one positive and one negative, might offset each other if possible.
Ever since Yan Yan learned of Qi Yi’s real upbringing, she had been very concerned about Qi Yi’s sense of security.
A person’s sense of security isn’t only present in emotions.
Before high school, Yan Yan herself was someone who felt particularly insecure in interpersonal relationships.
A person who has been targeted, isolated, and ostracized since childhood definitely couldn’t possess a sufficient sense of security in interpersonal relationships.
Yan Yan’s sense of security in interpersonal relationships can be said to have been created by Qi Yi.
Thinking back on her past self and comparing with the person she is now, Yan Yan clearly understood the importance of security.
Yan Yan hoped she could help Qi Yi build a sense of security in emotions, just like Qi Yi helped her establish security in interpersonal relationships.
