Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 285 - 280: Returning Goods is Troublesome
Chapter 285: Chapter 280: Returning Goods is Troublesome
Yan Yan had face blindness; she remembered the clothes she designed but had no impression of this girl at all.
The girl asked Yan Yan for a business card, and Yan Yan rejected her without a second thought.
It wasn’t that Yan Yan was unwilling to give one; she simply never considered herself a "business person" who needed business cards.
When she saw the girl approaching again, Yan Yan tucked away all her previous hostility and very amiably explained that she was now living in Paris for the most part, and if anyone needed to contact her, they could call the Maison Yan II studio in Paris since her sister-in-law frequented the studio there.
Yan Yan deliberately emphasized "Paris," smart as this girl was, she might soon guess that Yan Yan was the chief designer for Y·Y.
Yan Yan might be stirring the waters, but she didn’t really care much.
So what if they guessed right? She was about to make her grand entrance soon anyway, and letting a little information slip had its benefits.
Besides, if this girl was smart enough to guess, she wouldn’t likely share such crucial new information with other investment firms.
.........
People who came to Yan Yan’s table to fish for information had gradually left.
Yan Yan very "obediently" returned to sit beside Yan Ling.
Her cousin really was a huge support.
She hadn’t even discussed it with Yan Ling, yet he figured out exactly what she wanted. The use of the words "Family Day" pleased Yan Yan greatly.
After today, their Qi Yi could no longer be labeled as "relatively unknown."
However, with such a handsome boyfriend, wouldn’t it be a series of unending investigations if he had too good a "front"?
As this thought crossed her mind, Yan Yan looked up and glared at Qi Yi.
"Qi Yi, have you dealt with your mother yet?" Yan Yan asked in a somewhat peculiar tone.
It was tinged with sympathy, a bit of schadenfreude, a pinch of frustration, and slightly like checking a task off the list to her cousin.
"If you could find the time to marry me, I’d have her sorted in no time," Qi Yi responded with a smile.
Qi Yi’s life hadn’t faced many setbacks, and if there were any, they all came from his family.
When he was younger, it was because of a fatherless upbringing, and now due to his mother’s relentless opposition during his relationship.
"If you can’t even handle your mom, how am I supposed to marry you? I’m telling you, my family’s already involved, and with your capabilities, trying to deceive me just isn’t likely anymore," Yan Yan felt it necessary to make clear to Qi Yi that she now had her family’s backing.
"You’d better not deceive me, considering how little capabilites you have," Qi Yi had grown accustomed to Yan Yan’s disdain for his status.
Yan Yan was generally too busy to contemplate breaking up with Qi Yi.
Whenever they met and had a free moment, looking at Qi Yi’s handsome face made it even more unlikely for her to think about splitting up.
If Yan Yan had to live with Qi Yi’s mother all the time, she would have reached her limit long ago.
But as it was, meeting once or twice a year, sparring each time, kinda turned into a amusing minor episode in life, a nice diversion.
Qi Yi, on previous occasions, swore that he had his mom sorted out and invited Yan Yan home, but each time Qi Yi’s mom would immediately flip.
If Yan Yan had been as silent as she was back in high school, keeping everything to herself, she would’ve suffocated from emotional injury and just ended things.
But Yan Yan remained dignified and wasn’t overly self-pitying.
Just accepting everything passively, swallowing all words?
If that were the person now, then her last name wouldn’t likely be Yan.
Clearly not being that indifferent, there was no need to pretend otherwise.
Because of one remark from Qi Yi’s mother, breaking up with Qi Yi while thinking of herself as somehow noble, now seemed incredibly naïve to Yan Yan.
The "grown-up" Yan Yan simply wouldn’t act that way.
"Was it me who deceived you? How blind was I before?" Yan Yan now excelled in self-deprecation while taking stabs at Qi Yi, and she just kept getting better at it.
"Has your eyesight improved any?" Qi Yi asked Yan Yan with particular concern.
"Ouch? Are you waiting for my eyesight to improve so you can return me?" Yan Yan responded with a laugh to Qi Yi’s concern.
"You wouldn’t return me even if your eyesight did improve," Qi Yi expressed with full confidence.
Initially, when the issue with his mom "surfaced," Qi Yi quickly reverted to his previous anxious state.
After all, the last time this issue arose, Yan Yan had already dumped him very "neatly" once.
But as time passed, Qi Yi slowly relaxed again.
Yan Yan, now rational and understanding, wouldn’t just dump him over one of his mom’s objections.
"Are you perhaps a bit too confident now? Didn’t you see my parents sent my cousin to talk to me, already at that age where I might not get married off, shouldn’t cling to just one man?" Yan Yan continued with her self-deprecation and needling.
Yan Yan appeared brash and somewhat sharp-tongued, but her heart was genuinely delicate and tender.
She always believed that the sense of security in love was something she had to build for her boyfriend.
When her boyfriend felt uncertain, Yan Yan was always careful with her words, spending more time with him.
When they couldn’t be in the same country, she’d call or video chat more often than usual, sneaking messages whenever possible.
Yan Yan might not be the type to offer whispered, gentle consolations to Qi Yi, but she always showed her stance clearly through her actions.
Even if it was just sharing a simple bun or spending an afternoon with him in the United States.
But Yan Yan couldn’t stand seeing Qi Yi get too cocky from being pampered by her.
Discovering this, she couldn’t help but knock him down a peg or two.
"This isn’t confidence, this is knowing my girlfriend just doesn’t have the time to return me. Returning things is quite troublesome. Don’t you always need to fill out forms? And write addresses? With my girlfriend as busy as she is, she might as well ’lie down a bit longer, get a bit more sleep’," Qi Yi’s last remark was Yan Yan’s latest catchphrase.
Yan Yan used to have free time to sleep but often stayed up late to draw, now being so busy that she appreciated her love for sleep deeply.
