Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 233: "Yeah, We’re Married.
"I’m neutral on this matter. Auntie Rhodes and I don’t interact much."
Rory Linden stated her position seriously.
Charlotte Rhodes had never shown her much care in the past. Her current concern for her health was mainly because Rory had been the one to perform her previous surgery.
Sean Harrison had already expected this answer. "Alright, I understand. Have you received the gown?"
"Rachel Lancaster contacted me. She said it will be delivered sometime tomorrow during the day."
Rory Linden answered truthfully.
After that, silence fell over the phone.
Aside from a few official matters, the two of them seemed to have nothing at all to talk about.
Sean Harrison finally said, "Okay, I’ll see you the day after tomorrow."
After hanging up, Sean Harrison stood in the underground parking garage of the Stellar Group.
He had originally planned to have the car pick her up at the entrance of Celestria University Affiliated Hospital the moment Rory agreed.
Now, that wasn’t necessary.
Sean Harrison continued walking toward the sedan.
The driver was already waiting in the driver’s seat.
Only after getting into the car did the man dial a number, his tone uncharacteristically polite. "Chief Grant, I have something I need your help with. I was wondering when you might be free."
The call lasted less than two minutes.
After he hung up, he told the driver, "To Elysian Hospital."
The roads were clear at night, and the sedan quickly reached its destination.
Sean Harrison went straight to the sixth floor and walked into Charlotte Rhodes’s hospital room.
This was the first time he had visited since Charlotte Rhodes was hospitalized.
When he pushed the door open, Evan Hollis was washing Charlotte Rhodes’s feet.
Charlotte Rhodes looked down at Evan Hollis, her gaze full of motherly affection. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Sean Harrison’s arrival undoubtedly shattered the scene of a loving mother and her filial son.
"It’s so late. What are you doing here?"
When Charlotte Rhodes looked at Sean Harrison, the motherly affection in her eyes vanished completely, replaced by a hint of defensiveness.
Sean Harrison was long used to it. He had given up.
’After all these years, I was destined to never become the ideal son in Charlotte Rhodes’s heart.’
’When I was little, she wanted me to be obedient and submissive. She wanted me to be better than everyone else. She wanted me to bring her glory.’
’I eventually achieved the latter, but Charlotte Rhodes still didn’t treat me with an ounce of the attitude a mother should have.’
’Her good life, the respect she receives from outsiders—it’s all because of me.’
’She enjoys it all, yet takes it all for granted.’
Evan Hollis brought a towel to dry the old woman’s feet, then stood up with the washbasin. "I’ll go empty the water. You two can talk."
"No need. It’s late, I should be resting."
Charlotte Rhodes clearly didn’t want to interact with Sean Harrison any more than necessary.
She looked at Sean Harrison, her expression turning serious. "I’ve already told the director that I’m fine. I can be discharged in a few days. Besides, we’ve already made things clear. I won’t stay in the hospital and keep spending your money."
Sean Harrison listened to his own mother’s words with a blank expression before saying flatly, "If you don’t want to spend my money, then you can be discharged tonight."
The room instantly fell silent.
Charlotte Rhodes never imagined Sean Harrison would be so ruthless!
Before the old woman could speak, Evan Hollis came out of the bathroom. "I’ll pay for it. I’ll go downstairs and sign up for an Elysian membership right now. I can afford it."
Sean Harrison’s gaze shifted to Evan Hollis. "You don’t even have a job. You’re a freeloader living off my mother. Where would you get the money? An online loan?"
Evan Hollis had just rolled his sleeves up to his elbows to make it easier to wash Charlotte Rhodes’s feet.
When Sean Harrison came in, he had immediately spotted the watch on his wrist.
A Richard Mille worth millions.
From what he knew of the brand, it was probably authentic.
"Did I raise you all this time just to teach you to look down on people?" Charlotte Rhodes couldn’t help but defend Evan Hollis. "I’m the one who let him stay at my place! And all the supplements, clothes, and things he’s bought for me cost far more than rent. If you’re going to be so calculating, then calculate it with me!"
"You taught me that?" Sean Harrison let out a cold laugh. "The only thing you ever taught me was to win you face, to fight for your pride in everything. Yet you’re extraordinarily tolerant of this good-for-nothing in our family."
Sean Harrison rarely had these kinds of confrontations with Charlotte Rhodes anymore.
He was doing this mainly to provoke Evan Hollis, to see how he would try to defend himself.
"Sean Harrison!"
Charlotte Rhodes shot to her feet.
The sudden agitation made her heart feel uncomfortable again. She had just stood up when she clutched her chest and sat back down.
"Auntie Rhodes!"
Evan Hollis immediately rushed over to support the old woman.
He shot Sean Harrison a vicious glare. "President Harrison, I know you’re incredible. I can’t compare to you. You don’t have time to be with your mother, so I’ll be with her. I grew up in an orphanage. I don’t need anything. I just want to keep her company."
Sean Harrison watched Evan Hollis’s performance with cold eyes.
’What does he want? I really don’t know.’
’The most logical explanation is that he was after Charlotte Rhodes’s money. After finding out she didn’t have that much, he probably decided to make a move on her to shorten the time it would take to get his hands on it.’
Sean Harrison completely ignored the touching scene of motherly love and filial piety before him.
He strolled leisurely to the sofa, sat down, and crossed his legs. Leaning on the armrest with one hand, he said, "Weren’t you going to sign up for a membership? Go on, then. You weren’t just all talk, were you?"
"Sean Harrison! Are you really going to take things this far?!"
Charlotte Rhodes clutched her chest and pointed toward the cabinet, telling Evan Hollis, "My card is over there. Take my card and go!"
Sean Harrison said nothing, simply watching.
"No need, I have money. I’ll go right now." After steadying the old woman, Evan Hollis added in a pleading tone, "President Harrison, I’ll be right back. Please, don’t provoke Auntie Rhodes anymore. Her health really is poor."
The moment Evan Hollis left, Charlotte Rhodes snatched the water cup from the table and threw it at Sean Harrison!
"You just want me to die, don’t you?!" Charlotte Rhodes glared at Sean Harrison. "The biggest regret of my life was marrying that bastard and then giving birth to you!"
The "bastard" she was referring to was Sean Harrison’s father.
Back then, to clear Rory Linden’s mother’s name, Sean Harrison had spent a lot of money to find evidence of his father’s affair.
"Haven’t you been a coward your whole life?" Sean Harrison couldn’t be bothered to pretend anymore. "You hate him, but you can’t bear to give up your current lifestyle. You don’t dare to confront him, so you can only transfer your hatred onto me."
"What did you say!"
"Isn’t it true? You hate me, but you can’t bear to lose the life of privilege you have now, so you swallow your pride and continue to acknowledge me as your son."
There was no emotion in Sean Harrison’s voice.
Everything he did for Charlotte Rhodes was, aside from not wanting others to think him unjust and unfilial, mostly out of an inner sense of duty.
But after seeing Rory Linden recently, he suddenly felt that none of it mattered anymore.
It seemed he was destined to be alone.
He wasn’t afraid of losing anything more.
Charlotte Rhodes’s face turned pale with anger. She slammed her hand on the table several times. "How do you think you got to where you are today? If it weren’t for my strict demands, you would have been a good-for-nothing!"
"Then from now on, no matter what happens, don’t you dare seek help from this good-for-nothing. Our mother-son relationship ends here."
"You, you..."
Charlotte Rhodes pressed her hand tightly against her chest.
Sean Harrison stood up and pressed the call button beside her.
Then he turned and left.
As he walked out the door, a nurse was rushing over.
Sean Harrison didn’t pause for a second, continuing on his way out.
He didn’t take the car, instead walking alone toward the entrance of Elysian Hospital.
Beside the deserted street was a lone grilled cold noodle stand.
Sean Harrison strode over. "I’ll have an order of grilled cold noodles."
"Want it spicy?"
"Yes."
"You got it!"
As the owner was making the noodles, he looked up and recognized Sean Harrison at a glance. He smiled. "Well now, I haven’t seen you in a long time! Here waiting for your girlfriend to get off work? Why not get an order for her too?"
After saying that, he immediately corrected himself. "It’s been so many years. You two must be married by now, right?"
Without thinking, Sean Harrison lied, "Yeah. We’re married."
