Love You Till the End-Chapter 966 - 965: The Truth Will Always Come to Light
Shi Aoju glanced at the newspaper for a while, found it boring, and threw it aside.
The newspaper didn’t publish any news about the land in the west of the city, as he had requested, since the land was just about to be developed, and such news would not be beneficial to its future construction.
He sorted through the information from their investigation last night in his mind and combined it with the previous knowledge he had about these cases, feeling as if something was missing, unable to piece it all together.
The investigation into Xiao Chen was also limited to that he had studied abroad, then returned and collaborated with a foreign private enterprise because of his previous work experience there and his considerable achievements.
There was nothing else.
Shi Aoju frowned, certain that someone was deliberately hiding something, and that this opponent was formidable.
Su Jiuyi felt like she had been abused for so long that she had developed the legendary masochistic physique, feeling uncomfortable when not working.
After the fever subsided, she lay in Shi Aoju’s room for a little over ten minutes before she couldn’t stand it anymore.
Although her nose was still a bit congested from the cold, she could also smell the man’s scent lingering on the bedding.
She looked up, unable to sleep, kicked off the covers, felt cold again, and after tossing around for a while, decided to return to her room.
As she stepped out of the door, several maids cleaning the floor greeted her warmly.
She was somewhat taken aback, usually, they were busy all day and quite agreeable, but today made her feel like she was being treated like a star.
"Su Jiuyi, you’re awake?" The housekeeper, under Shi Aoju’s permission, was guiding the cleaning on this floor.
"Hmm..." Su Jiuyi nodded, "Is there any work that I need to do?"
The housekeeper actually smiled, which puzzled Su Jiuyi, considering that in the two weeks she had been here, she had never seen the old witch smile.
Is the sky about to fall...
"You just rest for a while; there’s no cleaning duty today." After saying that, she gently touched Su Jiuyi’s forehead to check, "Hmm, your fever has subsided. How about having dinner delivered to your room later?"
Su Jiuyi nodded stiffly after being stunned for what felt like a century.
But come evening, she didn’t feel hungry at all. Usually, she would eat a lot of pasta each meal, but today she couldn’t eat a single bite.
Must be from lying in bed too long.
Around seven or eight in the evening, when everyone else was having dinner, she took a watering can, wanting to go and water the flowers in the garden.
Upon reaching the garden, she saw Shi Aoju standing near the flowerbed she usually tended to, his hands in his trouser pockets, lost in thought as he looked at the petals.
She placed the watering can on the stone table to the side, walked over, and inquired about the case: "How’s it going?"
Shi Aoju came back to his senses, glanced at her, but didn’t say a word.
The insects in the grass were also twisting and leaping ceaselessly, making rustling sounds, while a full moon was veiled by light mist, resembling a fairy Chang’e draped in gauze.
She stood silently by his side, quietly accompanying him in admiring the flowers in the bushes, which she had nurtured with great care, just like her own children.
"Perhaps everything in the world has its reason for existence and disappearance," she murmured, seemingly speaking to herself as well as to Shi Aoju, "The truth will come to light eventually."
He focused his gaze on the depths of her eyes, recalling her look of extreme anger from that morning, which was somehow amusing in retrospect.
