Jasmine was tongue tied, her eyes widening in shock. Although he gave her many hints, she never thought that he was in love with her. At first, it was the only attraction that she thought but later on, it started to bloom into love. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Jasmine stared into his black eyes speechlessly. Apart from darkness, she saw something else in those eyes, his affection and yearning for love. It was hard to tell what she felt exactly. She wanted to deny all these feelings but at the same time, she couldn’t deny the truth that she liked when he kissed her. Not to mention, she had always expected him to come whenever she was in danger. It was more like he had become an unavoidable part of her life subconsciously.
To her surprise, she didn’t push him away. Her eyes teared up as she said in a choked voice,
" We can’t do this, Demon King...I..I am a married woman with children..You deserve someone.. better..."
Ralph let out a sad chuckle. Without taking his forehead back, he replied in a gutteral voice,
" Or..you just don’t want to admit that you like me too?"
Jasmine retorted, her eyes tearing up again,
" But...I love Oscar..."
" Loved!", Ralph corrected, taking his face a few inches back to tell her again,
" You used to love him so much. Don’t tell me that you didn’t think about your love for him too much during the time that he left you when you needed him the most? Who was there in your mind when you faced danger, Jasmine?"
Jasmine fell in dead silence. Maybe it was her idea that she was still in love with Oscar. However, she had daughters and many responsibilities to uphold. Jasmine replied calmly this time, looking up into his eyes,
" Our worlds are different. They will never accept this relationship. Everyone will call me a slut for getting involved with you. The whole world will call the demon king a home wrecker. Please don’t.. don’t mention this again.. Ralph.. Please..I can’t.."
Ralph gripped her by her shoulders, muttered furiously,
" I don’t fucking care!! I don’t..The worlds? I can bring it to your feet if you want. I never give a damn to people’s judgment. Can’t you see me? Can’t you see that I am dying to be with you?"
Jasmine only looked down to hide her emotions. She felt clueless about her emotional state at that time. All this time, she fought hard to give Oscar an heir. Now that it happened, how could she think about her own happiness? Besides, what will happen to the baby in her womb?
Ralph saw through her hesitation and stopped pestering her anymore. She was pregnant and most sensitive at this moment. It wasn’t okay to pressure her with her decision anymore. Letting out a soft sigh, Ralph said his words genuinely, staring at her face deeply,
" You still have time to think, Jasmine. As long as you want to be with me, I can do anything for you."
That night, Ralph sent her back to the castle to let her think of her decision. No matter how much she tried, the conflict didn’t leave her mind. Two days passed since Ralph proposed to her directly. In these two days, Ralph didn’t come to bother her anymore. Even Oscar was missing from the castle.
On that very night, she was having trouble in her sleep. Every time, she closed her eyes shut, she remembered the fire and the cursing voice of Oscar who blamed her for everything.
As she tossed and turned on her bed, suddenly the door of her room was kicked open. She startled to see someone entering. Naturally, she grew afraid as no one in this castle liked her anymore. She always feared for her own life. Curling up on the bed, she peeked at the doorway to see the person walking inside.
She was even more shocked to see Oscar coming in. But something was wrong with his body, the way he walked. The more he came closer, the smell of his alcohol hit her nostrils. He looked heavily drunk, so drunk that he couldn’t keep his eyes open. Oscar called for her in his strained voice,
" Jas...Jas..mine..."
It was possibly the very first time after her pregnancy that he called her without showing any anger. Even though Ralph was on her mind, the relationship between her and Oscar was stronger than anything. Jasmine quickly hopped down from her bed, rushed to get him anxiously,
" Your Highness! Why did you drink so much? If you hate me, just vent it out at me. Why are you hurting yourself?"
To her surprise, Oscar didn’t react this time. He merely laughed out loud bitterly, showing his distress,
" What’s the point of living? My father..has disowned me...you.. betrayed my trust..He thinks that..I don’t want to get married... and destroyed..the wedding on purpose...Now...the bride’s family...is suing him..I have lost.. everything...I have..no reason to live..."
Jasmine was hurt and emotional by his words. She held his hands up to put it on her stomach before telling in tears,
" NO!! YOU HAVEN’T!! We still have our son! He will be your legacy..Your father will melt after we have our son. Trust me!! I didn’t commit any son. This is our son, your heir! He will rule your kingdom. Not yours only! He will rule the entire kingdom."
Oscar listened to her crying voice and suddenly felt a hope after looking down at her protruding belly. He began to repeat her words, murmuring like a lost child,
" My child..he will rule.... right...My father doesn’t know anything..."
Jasmine nodded her head between her sobs and held him closer. Oscar gave out a maniac smile suddenly and pulled her in his arms to kiss her lips aggressively. Jasmine was taken back by his unexpected kiss. But the following moment, a discomfort ran through her entire body when Oscar muttered into her ears,
" JAS!! I want you... tonight.."
