Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 370: The Calm Before The Storm
William turned to the side and offered him a sandwich, which Ronan refused with a shake of his head.
"I didn’t mean to insult you, but honestly, locking you here on a full moon feels safer than letting you roam around in the palace," said William, to which Ronan didn’t respond. He felt too weak to speak.
The silence made William speak again. "I know that giving it some space will reduce the wolf’s chances of injuring itself, but this way the chances of you harming or threatening the others are also very low."
Ronan just nodded. He agreed with William. Letting him roam in the palace was Priest Louise’s idea, so the wolf stopped banging its head on the iron bars. The priest was worried that the wounds the wolf inflicted would affect Ronan’s human body. Indeed, when they gave a large space, the wolf stopped hurting itself.
However, Ronan couldn’t take the risk of wandering around in the palace again. The first time Arielle came to the palace, the wolf almost hurt her, so he decided to confine himself in the iron cage of cathedral basements when the full moon night came.
Kael arrived with lots of blankets for himself, William, and Lazarus, so they didn’t freeze while guarding Ronan. Priest Jill also arrived to help lower the king’s body temperature whenever it was needed.
"Where is Lazarus?" William asked Kael, because Lazarus was the only one who hadn’t arrived. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Maybe he’s still mad at me," Kael replied, taking a seat by the tightly locked cage door.
"What have you done?"
"I forbade him to meet Aimee."
"Huh? Why?"
"Aimee didn’t want to meet Lazarus. She said if Lazarus appeared in front of her face, she would refuse His Majesty’s offer. As an older brother, of course, I prioritize my sister because Aimee needs this opportunity to avoid the marriage that our father had prepared for her. I don’t want that kid to run away again."
William chuckled. Ronan rubbed his face, forcing himself to stay awake.
"You don’t want to pass on your father’s title?" Ronan asked suddenly from behind bars.
William and Kael glanced at the same time to Ronan.
"I’m not good at managing files. Whenever I see my father, I already know that becoming a duke is a tough job. I prefer to train my sword skill," Kael replied firmly.
"Besides, it’s because you prefer to stay in the palace, right?" William asked to which Kael nodded his head.
"Yeah... because in the palace, I can do whatever I want. If I stay at home, my parents always tried to introduce me to women, but none of them wanted to meet me again after they saw me. So I decided not to deal with them anymore."
Ronan smiled at hearing Kael’s answer. Kael had a bigger body than him, and the man’s face was much fiercer. Ronan had a calm yet sharp gaze, whereas Kael had an intimidating look that made women run away.
Kael also had a wound on his face, even though it wasn’t as big as his. The wound was from when Kael accompanied Ronan into the dragon’s lair. Even children always cried when they saw it.
However, Ronan knew Kael had the softest heart among the four of them. Kael was the only person who had a younger sister among them. Actually, William had one too, but since William’s family had chosen to leave the North, the man had assumed that he no longer had a family.
Besides, Kael was the only one who had harmonious and complete parents. Ronan’s parents were both dead. William didn’t know the latest news of his parents after leaving the North, while Lazarus only had a father because his mother died a long time ago when he was small. His father also had remarried.
Growing up in a family that had everything made Kael understand the relationship between humans more than his other three friends, and that made him have a softer heart than his friends.
"I’m really curious about Aimee’s change," Ronan said, making William smile.
"When you see her later, you won’t believe that girl is Aimee. She really changed completely," William replied.
"Like what? Is she getting bigger, like Lazarus said?"
Behind his smile, William was a little sad. It felt like the one in the cage wasn’t Ronan. The man must have felt so lonely that he started a conversation for the first time. Kael had the same thought as William. He could also feel the loneliness that the king felt.
Last month, Arielle was not in the palace, and Ronan was in a very good condition, so the man was cold as usual. However, now, he was sick and needed the princess. Both William and Kael saw how Ronan became a spoiled puppy in front of Arielle when he was sick.
"Well, you shouldn’t trust Lazarus. Aimee has become a butterfly now."
"You’re exaggerating, William," said Kael, who found it odd that his sister was being praised by his friend.
"I said the truth, Kael. When I accidentally met her, I was very surprised because the beautiful woman who approached me was Aimee. I agree with you about not letting Aimee meet with Lazarus."
Ronan was trying to imagine Aimee, a chubby little girl with lots of freckles on her face, turning into a pretty girl like William said. He couldn’t imagine it because in his eyes, the only one who was beautiful was Arielle.
"I miss them," he mumbled weakly. Even so, William and Kael could still hear it well.
"You will see her again tomorrow. No need to exaggerate like that. Don’t make me feel guilty for separating you two," William said, making Ronan smile.
"What do you mean? I said I missed Lazarus’ chatter," Ronan replied, laughing behind the bars.
PRANK!!!
Ronan, William, Kael, and Priest Jill turned their heads in surprise towards the entrance.
There, Lazarus stood with trembling lips. "Ronan, did you miss me? Will the doomsday come soon? I’m not even married yet," he said in a trembling voice.
Ronan cursed inwardly. His jaws hardened when he saw Lazarus standing in front of the door with a dejected face.
"I’m going to sleep. Wake me up for lunch," Ronan said, then he chose to turn his back on the people behind him.
