Chapter 457: The Resolution

"Because I also have a past that I need to resolve first. I will also learn to have a commitment if Aimee really gives me the chance to do so. And maybe I’ll leave the sea and stay in the North forever. I don’t want to be like my father, wandering around the world while leaving his family after marriage. He didn’t even know that my mother was sick, and when he came back, it was too late."

"Resolving things also takes time. If Aimee needs ten years, I don’t mind. If it takes Aimee twenty years too, I will definitely wait while learning to improve myself," said Lazarus.

William, who was in the middle, was deeply moved. His eyes started to tear up at hearing the seriousness of Lazarus’ words earlier. Lazarus was not as good as Arielle. He had many faults and lacks in a lot of things, but his determination made William feel very proud of his friend.

Ronan nodded in understanding.

"And Kael, what if Aimee comes to you and says that Lazarus is the man she loves?" he asked Kael.

"I think I’m not someone who deserve to determine who the man Aimee loves or not."

"Kael, you are his older brother."

"An older brother who was never there for his sister? I feel like a foul."

Ronan stood up to sit on his commander’s bed.

"I don’t think Aimee thinks like that," he said, while holding his friend’s shoulder.

"Without you, Aimee might still be out there and refuse to come back. And you know another reason Aimee accepted my offer? Aimee said because this way, she will be able to get closer to you. In this world, Aimee trusts you more than anyone else, even her father."

Kael averted his gaze. His eyes started to feel hot. He... didn’t want to believe Ronan’s words. It was too good to be true. He was nobody. There was no way Aimee would say that.

Suddenly, he heard the sound of crying. When he turned to the side, Kael saw William wiping his eyes. So did Lazarus who began to sob on his bed.

"What’s wrong with you two?" Kael asked in confusion.

"I... I... don’t want you guys to fight anymore...." William replied between his sobs.

"I feel guilty. I should have asked permission first, Kael..." Lazarus added while sobbing in his place.

Arielle got up to pick up the handkerchiefs and gave it to William and Lazarus, who were crying like a child.

"I’m sorry," said Kael, who was also starting to feel guilty for his actions earlier.

"I should have grown up and asked you first, but I got carried away and hit you, Lazarus. I am sorry."

"No-no... I am more at fault. That night, you clearly forbade me. I should have talked to you about it first..."

"Everyone... I’m also sorry for causing such a fuss..." William exclaimed in the midst of Lazarus and Kael.

Ronan received a handkerchief from Arielle and gave it to Kael. There had been a lot going on lately, Ronan thought. Maybe this was for the best for them. Kael could learn to speak his mind more often and not keep it to himself, so the communication could continue, and there wouldn’t be any misunderstanding again.

For Lazarus, the man could learn to think first every time he took action, and he shouldn’t be rash anymore. Ronan was sure Lazarus could learn to be more mature now.

And as for William... Ronan looked at the crying William with a disinterested look. Well, maybe the guy could learn that not all conflicts could be resolved by verbal negotiation. Sometimes, it took a hit or two to make them regret.

Arielle looked at Ronan in amazement. Her husband easily calmed the three of them without making a ruckus. Ronan remained calm and tactful to resolve their differences of opinion.

Arielle would remember this day. In the future, when she was faced with a conflict, Arielle had to be calmer and resolve everything with a cool head. There was no need to panic like before. Arielle also got another lesson that day.

"But hell, your slap stings so much, Ronan," said William taht made Arielle averted her gaze to her husband.

"You slapped them?"

"Err... just soft as a feather. Nothing hurt. Just to get their attention."

***

After telling Kael, William, and Lazarus to go back to rest, Ronan planned to meet Aimee to talk. At first, Arielle wanted to come along, but on the way, she met Archie who was walking alone to the library.

"I think I’ll just accompany Archie," Arielle said as she let go of Ronan’s hand. Ronan then allowed his wife to follow her brother and walked alone to his office, where Aimee had been waiting alone.

Arielle walked quickly to catch up after Archie’s wide steps.

"Hi, Brother. What are you doing alone?" Arielle asked after successfully catching up with Archie.

"Oh, Arielle? Why are you here? I don’t think Ronan will let you leave him all day."

"Ah... my husband is on business for a while, and I saw you alone, so I followed you behind."

"Work? On your honeymoon? Ronan had to learn to sort out his priorities. You are now his wife. You should be his main priority," Archie said, making Arielle laugh.

"It’s okay... I also want to take a walk. You want to go to the library, right?"

"Yeah, I’m bored in my own room."

"Then, come with me."

Arielle pulled Archie’s hand to accompany him to the library at Blackthorn Palace. She took Archie to the second floor, where she often spent time reading.

Archie then sank into a nearby row of books and picked up a book about Mount Birwick. He sat on the couch, joining Arielle who was already sitting there first.

"There was chaos last night," Archie said.

"Kael, Lazarus, and William were fighting, but everything is fine now."

"Aren’t they part of the pillars of the kingdom? How can they fight?"

"Just a little misunderstanding," Arielle replied.

Archie frowned. "A misunderstanding to the point of beating each other until they bleed like that? Don’t they have a sense of brotherhood?"

Arielle wanted to answer something, but she held it back. She was afraid that what she said would offend her brother. Archie let out a long sigh.
