Chapter 491: Abigail, The Pregnant Dragon

Arielle closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep. Even though it was just a mumbling tone, it was enough to send her to sleep because she was very tired today. Arielle just woke up when she heard the dragon wings flapping above her hut that disappeared right away. There must be a dragon just passing by, she thought.

She stretched her arms out to relax her stiff muscles. The fire in the fireplace had long been dead, but the hut was not too dark because the sun was shining through the hollow logs of the hut. Arielle looked around to make sure she was still in the same place.

She opened the window and found a woman with a big belly sitting in front of her hut.

"Good morning," greeted Arielle to the mysterious woman.

The woman turned and smiled at Arielle. "Oh, good morning. I don’t know if the hut has been used again. Sorry, I used your hut to rest. As you can see, I’m heavily pregnant."

Arielle looked at the woman’s belly carefully, then smiled back. The woman had very beautiful brown skin. Her purple eyes made her young face look very beautiful.

"Would you like a drink?" Arielle offered.

"Yes, if it’s not a bother," the woman replied, no less gently.

Arielle hurriedly got up from the window, then took a glass of water and brought it out to give to the mysterious woman. As Otis said that in Mount Birwick there were no humans other than her, Otis, and the two humans who were the servants of the werewolf clan.

Arielle sat beside the woman after giving her a glass of water.

"I’m sorry if my question offends you a bit. May I know if you’re a member of the dragon clan?" she asked.

The woman nodded. "I come out of the cave once a year while waiting for the spawn time."

Arielle frowned in confusion. "Spawn time? Does the dragon lay eggs in human form?"

The woman laughed at Arielle’s question. "You are not from the dragon clan, right? You look like Otis. I seem to have missed a lot. Before answering your question, can we get to know each other first?"

Arielle nodded and held out her hand. "Of course. I’m Arielle, an ordinary human. I’m here to learn my power from Lord Otis."

The woman gasped when she saw Arielle. "You’re one of the Moon Goddess’s children?" the woman asked. She was still surprised while covering her mouth with both hands.

"Lord Otis said so," replied Arielle who felt embarrassed.

The woman welcomed Arielle’s outstretched hand and shook it with great enthusiasm. "Waaahhh, I’m glad that Otis found a successor! I’m Abigail The Hunt. When I was young, I was an expert at hunting. You know Maxieno? He is my brother-in-law."

"Huh?"

Abigail laughed again at Arielle’s innocent and confused expression. "You don’t live with Xieno in the castle?" she asked.

"Oh, of course not. I don’t really like dirty places. If you’ve been to the castle, you’ll know what I mean."

Arielle really understood Abigail’s means. If she was given a choice, she would find another place to live instead of sleeping in a very dirty place like that.

"Oh yes! Earlier you asked whether the dragons lay eggs in human form? The answer is, of course no! All dragon clans reproduce by laying eggs. It’s just... when it’s close to spawn time, the female dragons will stay in a quiet place and lay their eggs in silence where the male will accompany his mate together."

"Mate? Dragons also have a mate?" Arielle asked.

"Of course! The Moon Goddess also blesses the dragon clan by finding a mate through mate bonds. And I found my mate when I was eighteen years old," said the woman, while stroking her huge belly.

"You’re younger than me," muttered Arielle who was also stunned to see the woman’s very large belly.

Abigail giggled and glanced at Arielle wittily. "Oh, don’t be ridiculous! I’m four hundred years old," she said, making Arielle drop her chin in surprise at the woman’s answer.

"F-Four hundred years!?" asked Arielle with a rising tone.

"Why are you surprised? We dragons do have a much longer lifespan than most creatures."

"But, you look so young... I was stunned because you were so beautiful. Your skin is also very healthy."

Abigail held her cheeks in embarrassment. "Oh, Arielle ... you really know how to make pregnant women like me feel better," she replied, making Arielle chuckle.

Arielle looked at Abigail’s huge belly. She knew every human being who was pregnant would also have a huge belly. Arielle then turned to her belly, which looked flat. She frowned. Arielle had never thought about this before. However, seeing Abigail smiling while looking at her growing belly, Arielle wondered when she would also get the same opportunity.

Abigail looked very happy as she looked at her belly.

"Abigail, you said earlier, all pregnant female dragons will go alone accompanied by the males. Then, why did you come back alone? Where is your husband?" asked Arielle, who was confused.

"Ah that... My mate died a long time ago, so I was alone. Even though it’s almost the spawn time now, I still have to get out of the cave because I don’t have a male to help me."

Arielle saw Abigail’s changed face. It looked like her husband had just died recently because Abigail’s face looked so sad.

Arielle felt guilty for asking a question that made Abigail sad.

"Is the cave you chose to lay your eggs far from here? I can help you if you want."

Abigail shook her head quickly while swinging her hands to reject Arielle’s overly generous offer. She actually felt bad for bothering other people. After all, Arielle was here to master her power from Otis. Abigail didn’t want the human girl to be exhausted.

"You don’t have to. Maxieno will help me. He will provide the entire supply for a whole year, but it looks like it’s the last year, as I can’t hold it in anymore."

"The last year?" asked Arielle, who didn’t understand.

"Oh, I forgot again! Dragons can carry eggs in their stomachs for years. This is my tenth year pregnant."

"WHAT!?" shouted Arielle who was very surprised to hear that.
