Chapter 780: Arielle’s Bitter Feelings

Arielle looked back to where Northendell’s dark sky was.

Her wide smile slowly faded. She didn’t know why she was feeling sad right now. Perhaps because Arielle was the only one who felt sad when everyone around her cheered happily.

(Are you okay?) asked Ronan who suddenly spoke inside Arielle’s head.

Arielle immediately wiped her face using her scarf and then cleared her throat.

(I’m fine. Why are you asking that? Did something happen to you?)

(Nothing. I just wanted to ask. Because... I have a feeling you’re sad right now)

Arielle suddenly laughed, making William and Prince Khaled, who were also enjoying the party on the ship, glance at the queen.

(You’re right. I’m really sad right now) This time, Arielle answered honestly.

(Why? What makes you sad?)

(I just crossed the border of Northendell and Thebis just now)

(And?)

(And the people seemed very happy. They even had a party on the boat)

(Isn’t that something fun? Was their party bad?)

(No... Not at all. At first, I also thought this was fun and awesome. It’s just... it hit me. That they were celebrating something on top of Northendell’s suffering, all this time)

(Arielle?)

(I know. Maybe I’m being too sensitive right now. But... they assume what Northendell is going through is unpleasant, so when they leave that unpleasant thing, they celebrate it. Indirectly, they think that Northendell is an unpleasant place)

No answer was heard from Ronan. Arielle hung her head low and started to feel the temperature getting hot. She forgot that the sun at Thebis was different from the sun at Nieverdell. They were twice as hot, making Arielle, who was wearing a black coat and scarf, absorbed the heat faster.

She rose from her place.

"Your Majesty? Where are you going?" William asked in puzzlement.

"I want to go back to my room. It’s too hot in here," replied Arielle.

Prince Khaled could understand. The temperature in Thebis was extreme. Almost as extreme as Northendell, but the difference was Thebis was hot, while Northendell was cold. Some of the people there had removed their coats and changed into the more revealing and light clothes of Thebis to match the temperature.

William and the Northedell knight walked behind Arielle.

"Your Majesty, would you like to eat something?" William asked in passing.

He wanted to know what Arielle was feeling right now. He could see Arielle’s back was no longer excited about the party like before. Something must be bothering the queen.

"William, can we talk for a minute?"

"Of course, Your Majesty." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Arielle turned to the knight beside William.

"Um... just the two of us?"

William turned to the man beside him. The man nodded, then stepped back. Arielle invited William to sit near the ship’s bar.

Because many people were busy partying on the deck, the bottom part of the ship became very quiet. There were only a few people asleep near their wares, as well as a man sitting on one of the long wooden seats at the ship’s bar.

"What do you want to ask, Your Majesty?" asked William who spoke casually again.

"Didn’t we agree to call each other’s names if Ronan wasn’t around?" asked Arielle, whispering Ronan’s name so no one would hear it.

William just laughed awkwardly and apologized, saying he forgot to do it. Arielle then forgave William, making William relieved because the queen didn’t make a big deal out of it.

"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" he asked.

Before telling her story, Arielle let out a long sigh. She then told William the same thing she said to Ronan before. Arielle expressed her concern, and William listened attentively.

The man now understood why Arielle looked dispirited just now.

"Besides, I heard that we lost a lot of Northerners this time. They left Northendell because they could no longer survive in the North. It makes me very sad."

William patted Arielle’s shoulder, trying to reassure her not to be too sad.

"You don’t need to worry. Even though many people have left the North, not a few have come to become the new residents. Like Thebis, for some people who couldn’t stand the extreme heat of Thebis, they would leave Thebis and live in Northendell."

"Oh really?"

"Of course, besides, there have been conflicts at various borders between the kingdoms recently. People started moving to Northendell because of the four great kingdoms on this continent, Northendell was the perfect place for taking shelter. The defense of Northendell is outstanding."

"Yeah, I also heard about that from Ronan."

"And as for the economy, Northendell has trade route that connect the three kingdoms directly. It will be easier to boost the economy if they enter Northendell."

"Isn’t that trade route in conflict right now?" asked Arielle.

William nodded. "You don’t need to worry. Conflict is a common thing to happen. Your husband is a capable king. He knows what he has to do."

Arielle felt more relieved after talking with William about the current situation of Northendell. She was constantly feeling restless, but William managed to make her feel better. Arielle forgot that everything had two sides. She was being too sensitive and only focused on negative things.

Arielle then bought William an alcoholic drink as a thank you, while she chose apple juice because she could not drink alcohol.

"Thank you for listening to my petty concerns."

"Oh, come on... weren’t you the one who said before that we were friends? As friends, of course, we can share things like this."

"Do you and Ronan share your worries too?" asked Arielle curiously.

"Yup."

"Really? What is Ronan usually worried about?"

William thought for a moment. He felt that what Ronan had talked about with him shouldn’t be shared with Arielle. Because so far Ronan had always been worried about whether he had become a good husband or not.

Or feeling irritated because Arielle got prettier day by day. Ronan became restless because he was afraid that another man would fall in love with his wife.

"Little things like this," William answered simply.
