Chapter 83: New Goals

When Leo woke up he found himself still in the training hall only that several hours had passed and it was now half filled with surge military members training and working out. No one had paid him any mind since he had been knocked out since the fight with Cassandra.

On his chest was his id card and by his side was his bag and luggages, Leo groaned deeply as he struggled to his feet.

He could still feel the aching all over his body but it was still somewhat bearable. Leo could catch glimpses of the other officers who seemed a bit disappointed by the fact that he was still alive.

For Leo he was still unsure of why Cassandra chose to fight him, he was perceived as the weakest superhuman in the base and would gain nothing from a fight with him. He also wondered why she left him there after she was done with him.

The bigger question he asked himself was what type of relationship they both shared with each other. Just the other day she was having a meal at his house and now she was beating the heck out of him. But did any of that really matter?

He wanted to get stronger and he was facing off against the strongest, wasn’t he meant to be happy about it.

"Whatever." Leo groaned as he rose to his feet, picked up his things and left. He could hear people snickering behind him but he ignored it.

On the way out he ran into Eunice the ever frowning officer who seemed to always be around whenever Cassandra was nearby. This time he did not offer her any of his usual remarks and simply walked right past her and put of the room.

"I swear I don’t know what she finds interesting about you." Eunice said as he walked right past her, her tone laced with venom. "It’s like you bewitched her."

Leo paused for a bit to say something but then decided not to and leave the area. Making his way back to his dwelling he found out that the time was nearing evening and everyone was busy.

A particular crowd of people gathered and discussed about the biggest news of the year, the upcoming tournament of champions event.

The event was one that was celebrated across every base in Hellscape, held to know who the strongest in every base was. Those who won would be given special elixirs to help them breakthrough to the next level of their power, which was something Leo desperately wanted.

The winners of the tournament of champions in each base would then be gathered in a special arena where they would all battle to know who the strongest awakened was. The event was nothing short of a spectacle and a great way for the bases to make lots of money.

Leo had always dreamed of what it would be like to fight in one of the tournaments and for the first time he felt he could do it. He was at least stronger than he had ever been, well with a lot of room for much improvement.

And if he did choose to it would raise another problem, draw people to him even more. There would be questions on how he had gotten so strong, and the news would eventually circulate to the wrong ears. He shivered as he thought of what Mr Neuman had told him.

As much as he had many things telling him not to risk his life for a title, he knew he did not care about the title as the strongest. He wanted the elixir to breakthrough to the ascended rank with their that it would be much harder. He wondered if this was what Cassandra meant a month ago when she said she was planning on advancing to the next level. If so, how was he supposed to be of use to her. Did she have some sort of plan no one aside from her knew of?

But that aside, Leo could mention a handful of people who wanted to breakthrough and some others who simply wanted the title of strongest. Goliath was one of those who simply wanted the title, since he could easily afford an elixir with his family’s wealth.

He could not say the same for Cassandra, he could not tell what she wanted. All he knew was that he had a role in her master plan and he was not going to be told what that role was.

As Leo quietly approached his the collection of buildings where his room was, his mind swayed through a collection of thoughts. He wanted to assign his goals this time, something that was achievable.

He wanted to partake in the tournament and fight those stronger than him for three main reasons.

The first was of course to get the elixir to help him reach the next level of course. The second was the need to get stronger by facing stronger opponents, and to do that he would need to be strong enough to compete with those at the peak of the awakened tier. The third reason was simply because he wanted to advance the moon god’s battle art further, after defeating Hinata with it, it had come to his attention that it gained a type of point if he beat an opponent.

All things considered the only two things stopping him from partaking in the tournament was that he was weak and he did not want to be identified.

Leo knew he only had three months to the tournament, which everyone used to train and he would have to work ten times as hard. To combat his second problem, he would have to use the Moonfall’s Bride armour type artifact to conceal his identity and use a made up alias.

Unknown to him Williamson Vincenzo had used his name to stir up trouble in the past with the hands of war mercenary group, claiming that he (Mr Curses) was stronger than Goliath.

At the moment the black armoured knight was heavily under the radar of the hands of war and Williamson the cause of all this has to share the profits of whatever he killed with him.

Leo who was oblivious to any of this was going to find out how much Glory base was going to change that year.

When he got to his room he let out a heavy sigh, "It’s good to be back." He reached for the door and then stopped.

His nose twitched at the scent of something sweet and hot, it was a scent he had never smelt before. It made him feel weird and his body burn, then all of a sudden without warning he felt a bulge in his pants.

His eyebrow shot up.

"What the heck!" He nearly screamed.

He wondered what could have warranted such a behaviour from him, over such a sweet aroma. But then he froze when his ears twitched and he peeked back over his shoulder to see darkness.

"When did it get so dark?" Leo had been so accustomed to darkness that he had failed to tell that it was already night time. Or had he been standing in front of the door for so long that the moon had risen?

Whatever that was Leo had no idea, only that he could see something peeking over the top of one of the building rooftops. It had bright purple eyes flashing at him.

"What the bloody hell--" He took a few steps back and banged the back of his head into the door of his room.

Despite his ability to see better in the dark he was unable to make it out in the first few seconds. Then he heard it growl in a very familiar way, and stare at him with so much intensity that his heart beat faster. The aroma came from this strange creature and it continues to make his body act funny.

Leo wasted no time sliding his key into the door and pushing it open, the creature leapt off the rooftop and landed on the ground with a loud thud. It burst into a sprint like it had not been damaged by the fall.

Leo slammed the door shut but was a split second too late as the creature rammed into the door sending him skidding backwards. The pain from his spar with Cassandra resurfaced again, distracting him for a second.

He looked up to see the creature walking into the room, to see that it was not actually a creature or a monster but a woman.

No... Not a woman.

He watched her growl, revealing huge fangs and the claws growing from her hands. He swallowed hard.

She was a werewolf.
