Chapter 133: Isley Enterprises

Penelope and Cassandra took their seats at the dining table, settling in with a warm air of familiarity. Cassandra gave Jessica a wave as she sat down.

"Hey, Jessica," she greeted casually.

Jessica responded with a friendly smile, her eyes softening. "Hey, Cassie."

But the moment her eyes shifted to Tasha, the air crackled. Cassandra’s friendly demeanor vanished in an instant as she gave Tasha a sharp glare. Tasha, never one to back down, returned the look with equal intensity.

Jayden sat down with a sigh. "At least Cassie and Jessica seem to be on good terms." he thought.

Jacob arrived with practiced grace, serving up plates with a smile. Pancakes—again. This time, he dished out generous stacks for both Penelope and Cassandra.

Penelope smiled at him, elegant as ever. "Thank you."

Cassandra echoed her mother. "Thanks, Jake."

She forked a piece of pancake into her mouth, and the second it hit her tongue, she groaned in satisfaction. "Mmhn. This is just as I remembered. Delicious as always."

Harleen chuckled from across the table. "Yeah, Jacob’s a pancake-making god. Even I can’t make them as good as he does."

Jacob laughed, bashful but proud. "I’m glad you all love it."

As everyone settled into their breakfast, the hum of light conversation surrounded them.

Penelope turned to Harleen. "So, Harleen, how’s work?"

Harleen leaned back in her chair, sipping her juice. "Busy as always. New design lines launching next week, so we’ve been stitching through the night. The higher-ups want something ’breathtaking’—as always. I hope I can get the crystals I ordered?"

Penolope nodded. "Of course. You’ll have them latest tomorrow."

Jayden glanced over at Tasha, his curiosity piqued. She leaned toward him and whispered, "Mum and Penelope go way back. They’re not just friends. They’re also business partners."

Jayden raised a brow. "Really?"

Tasha nodded. "Yeah. Mum works as the head tailor in a designer house that makes clothing and armor out of Beast Crystals."

Jayden’s eyes widened slightly. "Wait—clothes out of Beast Crystals? That’s a thing?" he asked. He knew that armours were made from beast crystals, but regular clothing? That was next level surreal.

Tasha smirked. "Not just a thing. It’s ’the’ thing. It’s how most top-tier gear is made nowadays. Penelope has access to rare crystals and she became their exclusive supplier. Still is, to this day." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Jayden nodded slowly, pieces connecting in his mind.

Tasha smiled nostalgically. "It’s actually how I met Cassandra. Our moms used to drag us to work meetings, and one day, we just started talking. But... I guess not all friendships last forever." she said, her voice wavering at the last statement.

Cassie didn’t look up from her pancakes, but a subtle twitch of her lip suggested she’d heard.

Jayden exhaled. He wanted to ask what happened between her and Cassandra but he decided to bring it up some other day.

The breakfast buzzed with chatter for a while longer, most of it being Penelope and Harleen catching up, laughing about old times and trading industry gossip.

Eventually, plates were emptied and the group began to rise from the table.

As Jayden stepped toward the living room, Penelope called out to him. "Jayden? Did you like the Beast Crystals I sent you last Friday?"

Jayden turned, offering her a small nod and smile. "Yeah, I did. They served me well. Thank you."

Penelope smiled back, but with a little gleam of mischief in her eye. "Good. I’m glad. Just so you know, you won’t be getting any this week. Since you didn’t follow Cassandra anywhere."

Jayden nodded, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, I figured." he chuckled.

That one sentence landed like a drop of ink in water.

That little exchange caught the attention of everyone else like a slap in the face.

Harleen and Jacob exchanged wide-eyed looks.

Jessica tilted her head slightly. Even Tasha gave a knowing smirk.

Harleen was the first to speak, her brow furrowed in curiosity. "Wait—what are you two talking about?"

Penelope spoke calmly. "Oh, it’s nothing big. Jayden’s Cassandra’s bodyguard now."

Jacob nearly choked on his juice. "W-What?!"

Harleen’s jaw dropped. "Bodyguard?"

Jayden blinked, suddenly aware of all the stares. "Y-Yeah," he stammered. "It’s uh... it’s official now, I guess."

Jacob looked completely baffled. "But Cassandra’s a powerhouse already. Why would she need a bodyguard? And Jayden—no offense, kid, but you don’t even have a visible ability yet."

Harleen nodded in agreement. "Yes. How can he protect her?" she asked. In her mind, it’s Jayden himself that needed protection.

Before the tension could rise any higher, Penelope raised her hand gently.

"Relax," she said. "It’s not a huge deal. It’s part of a bigger plan. Jayden’s strong and resourceful. I trust him. And besides..." She glanced at Cassandra. "I think he’ll be good for her."

Everyone looked at Cassandra, but she was already staring out the window, pretending not to hear.

Penelope waved her hand nonchalantly. "Seriously. Don’t worry yourselves about it. It’s more like extra precaution. And training, really. It’s good for both of them."

Harleen leaned forward with sigh. "But wait... when did this happen?"

Penelope gestured vaguely. "Not long ago. It’s recent." she said.

Jacob exhaled. "Since that’s what he wants. I guess I can’t argue with it." he muttered.

Penolope smiled. Good. But now that we’re on the subject... Jayden, girls, why don’t you all come with me?"

Jayden tilted his head. "Where to?"

"To get weapons of your own," she replied. "With the tournament coming up, you should all be equipped."

Jessica and Tasha exchanged uncertain looks.

"I mean... I’m not really good with weapons," Jessica admitted.

"Same," Tasha added. "Never even held one seriously."

Penelope smiled reassuringly. "That’s alright. You’ll have time to learn. I’m not expecting you to be swordmasters overnight. But better to start now."

Jayden sighed. He had originally planned to go train at the pod den, test some new moves, maybe see if he could find a tough opponent. But he couldn’t ignore the opportunity.

"Alright," he said. "Let’s do it."

Harleen nodded in encouragement, turning to Tasha and Jessica. "Go with them. It’ll be good for you." she urged.

Tasha and Jessica exhaled. "Okay." they said in unison.

A few minutes later, the two teens had gone upstairs to change into something comfortable. When they returned, Penelope was already outside, standing beside her luxurious hovercar—a sleek obsidian-black machine that looked like a modern-day Lamborghini Urus, only more dangerous. Its surface shimmered in the sunlight, and the engine purred like a content beast.

Jayden, Jessica, and Tasha slid into the back seat, while Cassandra climbed into the front beside her mother.

As the hovercar began to rise off the ground with a gentle hum, they all turned to wave goodbye.

Penelope waved at Harleen and Jacob. "Thanks for breakfast, you two. Next time would be at my place." she smiled.

Harleen smiled back. "Anytime, Penny. We’re always happy to have you."

Jacob waved a spatula like a flag. "Bye kids. Don’t break anything!"

Harleen grinned. "Have fun!"

And just like that, the hovercar soared into the sky, cutting through the glowing skyline.

They glided through the city in Penelope’s sleek hovercar, the hum of its electric engine a low thrum beneath their feet.

Soon the towering, glass-paneled edifice of Isley Enterprises came into view—a modern cathedral of steel and shimmering crystal, pride of Emerald City’s skyline. Its name, etched in bold silver letters, caught the late morning sun like a beacon.

Penolope smiled. "Welcome to my corporation."

Stepping into the grand lobby, they were greeted by polished white floors, ambient blue lighting, and attentive staff who bowed their heads subtly. The moment Penelope entered, the air shifted.. respect hovered around her like a shield.

"Good morning, Miss Isley," said a tall, impeccably dressed man at the front desk. This was the general manager, his presence quiet but commanding.

"We’re headed to the armory," Penelope said smoothly. "To the Genesis Chamber."

"Of course," he replied, pressing a panel that opened the way to a gleaming private elevator. Jayden, Cassandra, Jessica, and Tasha climbed in and rose through the building’s core in near silence, watching the city shrink through mirrored panels.

When the doors opened, they stepped into the Genesis Chamber... Isley Enterprises’ top-tier armory. The room was expansive and glowing: rows of weapon racks lined the walls, filled with gleaming swords, axes, spears, daggers, shields, and even biomechanical rifles. Every item was graded—C, B, and A, etched with runes or beast‑crystal inlays. The hum of latent energy was tangible.

Penelope motioned toward the collection. "Feel free to explore and select what resonates with you."

Jayden wandered among the melee weapons, fingers brushing over blades. He wasn’t a fan of weapons, but when he was a kid, his mother had taught him how to use a dagger and a spear.

He paused at a sleek, rune‑etched B‑rank dagger, its handle designed for effective control.

Penelope approached him. "You said you can use dagger, correct?" she reminded him, picking it up.

Jayden nodded. "Yeah."

"Good," Penelope said, stretching the dagger to him. "This one’s responsive—melds with telekinesis."

Jayden’s eyes lit up. He collected it, testing its weight and balance. The runic glow pulsed softly under his hand.

"I think I might take it." he muttered, after inspecting it for a while.

Penelope smiled. "Good."
