Chapter 129: 129:Class increase

Alaric looked around, but all he saw was the man’s vines shooting towards him. He swung the whip desperately trying to hit as many as he could, but the man seemed to have increased the intensity.

The plant vines were coming from all directions. Alaric was still trying to decipher what the man meant by his words when he noticed it.

He was surrounded, the man had clearly set a trap that he had not noticed since he had been busy dodging the underground Vines.

" So you noticed?" The man said," It’s too late anyway."

The vines started to wrap around each other. Alaric tried to destroy the connection, but it just wouldn’t work. The wines had become too thick.

Alaric could see from the way the vines moved that he was being caged, and there was nothing he could do about it. He had really grown overconfident after clearing the B-class dungeon alone. He had forgotten he was just a small fish in the sea that would still be eaten by the bigger fish.

But he wasn’t about to lose hope just because of a little setback. He chose a specific area on the growing cage and wrapped the wire around it. The serrated and sharp whip edges cut into the vein but not strong enough to cut through it.

The white line on the whip lightened, and frost started to form around the plants. After it had spread for a considerable amount. He pulled his whip back and hit the ice with everything he got. The ice broke into pieces taking the plants with it.

But before he could celebrate, the veins reformed and reconnected until a cage was formed around him.

" That won’t help at all, you have to find another way," the man mocked him.

" Who sent you?" Alaric asked while he looked around, thinking of ways to get out of the makeshift cage.

" You have a huge bounty on you, most people have been waiting for it to go up. You know what your price is right now? Twenty million! It’s not too much, but that’s also good money; no one would refuse. And to top that, a group of weirdos also added money to it.

They wanted to correct you or something like that. They’re rich who would refuse their offer. "

" The extremist? "

" Ooh yeah, that’s what they’re called, gives me the creeps, but who cares. Money is Money. "

Alaric nodded. He had expected them after the car accident, but they had really chosen the worst time to attack him. He was worried about the brothel and now adding his life in the mix, this was becoming overwhelming, fast.

" You were a talented kid, but your life is just too expensive to spare it."

The ground under him started to shake. Alaric jumped to the corner of the cage, but it was still shaking. A huge vine shot out of the ground. Soul and dust rose from the ground and came straight at him.

Alaric tried to attack it, but his attacks felt like child’s play. He rolled to the side when it reached him. The vine hit the hard, drilling a hole into it.

Alaric didn’t have time to look at the results, the only thing he could do was dodge as it stabbed the place he stood.

Another vine shot a the ground and stabbed the place he had escaped to, missing him by a sliver of time.

Alaric looked at the looming veins.

" Do we really have to do this? One is enough, right?"

The man laughed.

Alaric looked around but he just couldn’t see any place he could run off to. He was like a caged animal with no escape.

He watched as the veins came down at a very high speed. He tried to dodge but this time a small vine appeared under him and wrapped around his leg.

He hit it with his whip but it didn’t budge. He was stuck. Alaric wasn’t that worried. He wasn’t going to die too easily as the man thought he would.

The vine struck him right at the center of his chest. Alaric was thrown back and hit the walls of the cages. The pain was instant it felt as though he had been stabbed right through his chest.

He looked down to see the dark armour disappearing. It wouldn’t be able to help a lot since it was a C-class skill, but it had at least bought him time.

The man didn’t seem to be in a hurry, Alaric stood up and attacked the vines that were clearly waiting for him to stand up.

" You survived that, bravo! Let’s go for the next one I want to see how many skills you have."

Another vine shot out of the ground. Alaric’s heart dropped. With the rate at which the vines were appearing, he was sure the small space in the cage would be filled eventually.

He tried to hit the plants from the bottom, where they appeared, but it didn’t seem to work. The moment it broke off another one would appear. It became this vicious cycle where he had to destroy them but more will appear.

Alaric glanced out at the man to see that he wasn’t even paying attention anymore; he had already been marked as a dead man.

(Hidden reward unlocked)

Skill: Temporary rank increase.

Duration: 10 minutes.

Cool down: 1 month.

Description.

Your rank will increase by one class in case of an emergency or rank disparity.

Side effects.

May cause internal injury and extreme weakness.

(Yes). (No)

So the system even gave an option, but it seems the effect was going to be hard on his body.

He felt a foreign power trickle into his body. The B-class barrier broke, and power filled his core until he was A-class. His body felt full, too full.

It was uncomfortable; the power disparity between a B class and an A class was like having an ocean between the two ranks. His body was too weak and not ready to accept such power.

Alaric knew he had only ten minutes to get rid of the man.

He swung the whip hard onto the wall of the Vines’ cage. It didn’t cut through it as he had expected; the whip was a B-class weapon, and tearing through an A-class power would require a bit of work.

He swung a second time, and this time it tore through the veins. Alaric stepped out fast before the vines could stitch themselves back together.

" Mmh, I did expect you to get out. But you just made me more interested."

Alaric didn’t care about the man’s monologue, he pushed into the ground and jumped towards the man. He swung his whip, but it hit the shield again.

Alaric smiled, he had got him where he wanted him. Since the man still saw him as a B class he was sure to be under the assumption that he was weak.

He landed next to the shield and kicked it, just as he had expected he tore through it easily.

" What!.."

Alaric caught the man by the throat and slammed him to the ground. He raised his fist and punched him in the face repeatedly before the man could even react from the shock.

A huge twisted vein shot towards him from the back, but Alaric dodged it as he squeezed the man’s neck.

" You should be more cautious in a fight," Alaric said.

A small dagger appeared in the man’s hand, and he stabbed it towards Alaric, but Alaric caught his arm and redirected the dagger back into his chest.

The man’s face had started to turn purple and his breathing was barely noticeable. He was quickly losing his breath.

The ground below him shook , Alaric jumped back as more plant vines came out of the ground. It was a clear desperate attempt for the man.

Alaric broke his neck at that moment, he didn’t have time to play with him. He looked at the lifeless body then at the damage he had caused.

The whole backyard was filled with holes and plant vines that had started to dry up the moment he died.

" This is going to be a bitch to clean and restore."

He took the dead man’s body and put it under a flower bush and entered the brothel through the back door.

He had at most seven minutes to organize things and the rewards before he went into that forced coma. Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth and onto his clothes, he could feel his internal organs shredding themselves.

The joy of free power, Alaric thought amused.

The pain was still manageable even with all the shredding. His pain tolerance had increased a lot.

He arrived at the lounge to find all the guests sitting and chatting. The guards were back, and all the awakeners who had been fighting were sitting together chatting. In the courtyard, there were almost thirty bodies piled up. Fortunately, they were organized, and no blood stains could be seen.

Alaric was still surprised since most of the people had gone back to normal and they didn’t seem fazed at all by the fight.
