Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 301: Don’t Make a Sound
Li Chongming looked at Chu Fang clinging to him, and for a moment, his mind was in chaos. The faint perfume on her body was like invisible fingers, gently brushing past the tip of his nose.
It made him want to keep holding her just like this, until—
His eyes widened slightly. Suddenly, a sharp clarity returned to him.
Last time, it was in the hospital that Li Wanran had started to sense something and issued him a warning.
Until his plan succeeded… he couldn’t fall out with Li Wanran yet!
With that thought, his willpower reasserted itself. Li Chongming grabbed Chu Fang by the shoulders and pushed her away—hard.
He didn’t hold back, and because Chu Fang was wearing high heels, she stumbled. She hadn’t expected such a violent reaction from him.
She lost her balance and fell to the floor, her purse dropping beside her. The zipper hadn’t been fully closed, so a few items spilled out onto the ground.
Li Chongming opened his mouth to say something, but his eyes caught sight of something that had fallen from Chu Fang’s bag.
He froze for a second.
Maybe realizing he’d overreacted, he looked at Chu Fang, now sitting on the floor, one hand propping her up, her head bowed low.
“I didn’t mean to push you… you were the one who jumped—”
Ding-dong!
The doorbell rang.
It startled Li Chongming, who was still near the entrance. He turned sharply to look at the door, a thought suddenly flashing through his mind.
To confirm his suspicion, he lowered his footsteps and approached the door, peering through the peephole.
Ye Rong.
His heart skipped a beat.
As Li Wanran’s mother, he knew Ye Rong fairly well.
She was the type who had to be the center of everything and couldn’t tolerate the tiniest hint of betrayal. If she found out there was another woman in his home…
Just imagining the scene made Li Chongming’s neck stiffen. Slowly, he turned to look at Chu Fang, still sitting on the ground.
And then—he moved fast.
He crouched down, grabbed her purse, stuffed the fallen items back inside, then threw her arm over his shoulder. As Chu Fang looked at him in stunned confusion, he whispered softly,
“Don’t make a sound.”
Without waiting for a response, he half-dragged her toward the bedroom.
Li Chongming moved fast—so fast that Chu Fang nearly tripped multiple times, and her arm hurt from how tightly he was gripping her.
They reached the bedroom. Meanwhile, the doorbell rang three more times, followed by the ringtone of his phone echoing from the living room.
In a panic, Li Chongming yanked open the wardrobe and shoved Chu Fang inside—bag and all.
The roughness of the motion made the unprepared Chu Fang cry out instinctively.
“Ah!”
The moment he heard that sound, Li Chongming nearly jumped out of his skin. He lunged forward and clamped a hand over her mouth. Crouching low, leaning forward, his face was full of panic as he whispered in a low voice,
“Shhh! Don’t make a sound!”
He glanced quickly toward the living room—the ringtone was still going.
Turning back, terrified she might mess things up, he made her a desperate promise right there:
“As long as you don’t come out, I’ll grant you one wish! Whatever it is—money, a promotion, you name it!”
“Huh?”
“Just don’t make a sound, you hear me?!”
Without waiting for her answer, he grabbed the wardrobe handles, ready to close them. But before doing so, he repeated one more warning:
“Whatever happens, don’t make a sound!”
“…Mmm.”
Like she was in the middle of some high-stakes thriller, Chu Fang huddled in the wardrobe, hands covering her mouth, nodding to signal she understood.
Seeing that innocent expression on her face, Li Chongming paused for a second.
That look—so quick to believe whatever he said…
Where had he seen it before?
But there was no time to think.
He shut the wardrobe doors tight, then rushed back into the living room. He grabbed his phone from the coffee table and looked at the screen.
Ye Rong was calling.
Li Chongming took a few deep breaths to calm his nerves. Then, steadying his voice, he hit the answer button.
Before he could say anything, Ye Rong’s voice came through the line:
“What were you doing?”
“Mom… I was just taking a shower. I heard the phone ringing and came out. Did you need something?”
“That explains it… A shower, huh? Then hurry and put some clothes on and open the door. I’m right outside.”
“You’re here?”
Feigning surprise, Li Chongming’s voice made it sound as if he truly hadn’t expected her.
When it came to pretending, Li Chongming really was better than the average person.
He spoke quickly, then hung up the phone. The moment the call ended, he bolted to the bathroom.
He turned on the faucet, let the water run, and ducked his head under it. Then he grabbed a towel, wiped down his hair, and tossed the towel aside.
He used both hands to smooth back his damp hair, making sure he looked freshly showered. Once he felt confident he looked the part, he composed himself.
With a soft smile on his face, he walked to the door.
He took a deep breath, then opened it.
Standing outside was Ye Rong, who had been waiting a little while. Li Chongming wore the same calm expression as always, as if he had no idea she was coming.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Mom!”
“It wasn’t too long.”
She responded with a smile.
The moment the door opened, Ye Rong’s gaze landed on his slightly damp hair. She didn’t say much.
Which meant—it made sense that he hadn’t answered the phone right away.
Without saying more, Ye Rong stepped inside. Li Chongming followed behind her, nerves still taut as he glanced back at the bedroom.
Fortunately, Ye Rong only went as far as the living room and sat down on the sofa. She didn’t show any interest in checking the bedroom.
Realizing that, Li Chongming finally let out a silent breath of relief.
He gently closed the door and walked over, sitting down on the couch beside her, on her right.
Once he was seated, Ye Rong smiled at him and asked casually,
“So… are you getting used to living here?”
