Madness After the Apocalypse-Chapter 6: A Bold Heist
Chapter 6: A Bold Heist
Two men were driving a silver van, heading out of the city.
Annan followed behind them, watching as the vehicle pulled up to an abandoned factory.
The factory gates were locked, but as soon as their van arrived, a large man emerged and quickly opened the doors.
"You two are the fastest, the others aren't back yet. I've been so bored waiting alone!"
The man's voice was as loud as his size. Annan parked her car not far off and overheard the conversation clearly.
It seemed the hideout consisted of only these three men.
Annan let out a quiet breath of relief and prepared to exit her car.
"Keep your voice down, we've been followed." The red-haired man grabbed the big guy by the arm.
"What? You led the cops here?!"
"It's not the cops. From the rearview mirror, it's a woman."
The big man chuckled. "A woman? What's there to fear? Let me see what kind of little woman we're dealing with."
By now, Annan had already walked over, offering a polite smile.
"Hello, how much fuel do you have? I'd like to buy some."
The three men stood frozen, dumbfounded.
"Buy fuel?"
The red-haired man scoffed. "It's the middle of the night, and you're following us just to buy fuel?"
"Apologies, I'm in urgent need of a large amount of diesel and gasoline. Legal channels are limited, and I saw a rare opportunity, so I took the chance to ask."
The big man sized her up.
Oh, she's a beauty.
Tall and slender, with flawless skin, her hair flowing in the wind.
He rubbed his hands together with a greasy grin. "Little lady, getting fuel is easy. Why not spend some time with your big brother first?"
The red-haired man joined in. "Yeah, come spend some time with us, and we'll sell you the fuel at a good price."
Annan stood under the dim light outside the factory, her expression unreadable.
"Let's go inside and talk," she suggested.
The three men eagerly led her into the factory.
Inside the abandoned factory, the scene was chaotic, with oil drums scattered everywhere, each labeled by type.
At a glance, she saw not only diesel but gasoline as well, with even specific labels for 92, 95, and 98.
Impressive, this was more comprehensive than expected.
Annan looked around, feeling quite satisfied. This fuel would last her decades.
"When will the others be back?"
"Not for a while. They won't be back until the late hours."
As they spoke, the men smirked and moved closer, preparing to make their move.
Without changing her expression, Annan swiftly dodged a wandering hand.
The red-haired man, seeing this, angrily raised his hand and slapped her. "You filthy woman, don't make me have to deal with you now. I can kill you right here, and no one would know!"
Annan raised her hand to block the slap and swiftly pulled a fruit knife from her space, plunging it into the red-haired man's chest twice.
The speed was so fast, the big man hadn't even seen his comrade fall before he swung his fists at her.
Annan deftly dodged, swiftly circling around him, and landed a powerful kick to his knee.
She was trained, and her movements were precise and ruthless.
With a sickening crack, the man collapsed to the ground, clutching his dislocated leg and howling in agony.
The last man, witnessing how quickly Annan had taken out his two partners, was in utter disbelief. He backed away a few steps, pulling a machete from the corner and charging at her with a roar.
Oh, resorting to a deadly move?
Annan smirked disdainfully. She had survived the apocalypse and spilled more blood than this petty thug could ever imagine.
He wanted her life?
With a flick of her arm, she sent a cloud of flour from her space, smothering the man's face.
The flour made him choke and cough, blinding him as he swung the machete wildly.
Annan seized the opportunity, moving silently behind him, and sliced his throat in one clean motion.

The man collapsed, silent, his life quickly fading away.
The two injured men on the floor were wide-eyed, paralyzed by the horrifying scene.
How did that flour just appear out of thin air in her hand?
And how did the knife suddenly materialize in her grasp?
The two men trembled in terror, watching as the mysterious woman slowly approached them.
"Please, don't come closer!" one of them stammered.
"I was wrong, I'm sorry! I'm worse than a dog or pig—please, let me go!"
Annan looked at the shivering pair. "If I had begged you like that earlier, would you have let me go?"
They stared at her in shock, and Annan continued, "Of course, you wouldn't."
Not only would they not have spared her, but they had also planned to kill her and burn her body to prevent any traces.
Countless young women went missing every day, and no one would have suspected what happened to one more girl at an abandoned factory outside the city in the middle of the night.
Annan didn't hesitate. She swiftly sent both of them to their final resting place.
"I told you, you should have taken the money. But instead, you sought death."
Though Annan appeared to be a young woman who had just graduated, after four years of surviving the apocalypse, she had grown callous and hardened beyond her years.
Calmly, she gathered all the oil barrels into her space. Before the others returned, she cleaned up the scene, sealed the bodies in bags, and stored them away.
As she stepped out of the factory and prepared to leave, she suddenly noticed the red-haired man's van still parked there.
A Wuling van?
That was the perfect vehicle for the apocalypse—sturdy, durable, unremarkable, and capable of carrying plenty of supplies.
When the official bases were established later, she couldn't very well walk there, could she?
The more she looked at it, the more she liked it. There were even a few barrels of diesel inside, and the keys were still in the ignition. She quickly transferred everything into her space.
Returning home, Annan felt exhausted, her body aching.
It seemed she still needed to improve her stamina.
After tidying up, she collapsed onto the bed, fatigue overtaking her as she drifted into a deep sleep.
Suddenly, she was jolted awake by a series of loud knocks from downstairs.
Was the pork still not dealt with?
Annan thought hazily, but her exhaustion overwhelmed her. She couldn't summon the energy to investigate and quickly fell back into a deep slumber.
The next morning, she awoke to the soft patter of rain outside her window.
She reached for her phone beside the bed: July 10, 2039.
This was the day the rain started in her previous life.
The summers had been getting hotter each year, and this year's heat was unbearable, with the first rain only arriving today.
People cheered for the rare coolness, unaware that tomorrow, this light rain would turn into a torrential storm, sweeping the globe and marking the beginning of the apocalypse.
Annan quickly got up and freshened up. Today was the last day before the apocalypse, and she had to go to Aunt Chen's to retrieve the triangular bayonet.
As she reached the ground floor, her phone rang.
It was the water quality report from the testing company.
Annan eagerly opened it to find that the water met drinking standards.
With a relieved smile, she headed to Aunt Chen's house.
Aunt Chen also lived in the hillside villa district.
The villas were situated halfway up Mount Luoan, requiring a winding mountain road to reach them.
The road was slippery in the rain, and her rented light truck was harder to drive, but Annan still chose it.
After all, the world hadn't fallen into chaos yet, and she couldn't openly drive the Wuling van she'd taken.
Carefully steering the wheel, Annan focused ahead. Suddenly, a sleek black armored car appeared, heading directly toward her.
She widened her eyes: This was...
