Mage Legend-Chapter 406: Travel and Travel Beyond Travel - Thirteen Rainy Night
Walking through the forest was a novel experience, especially for Zilvra and Soka. The lush green leaves were within arm’s reach, and the white blossoms above released a faint fragrance.
All the building materials here come from nature, especially trees. Whether it’s the platforms built on large trees, the stairs constructed around trunks, or the materials used for making ropes, they’re all provided by the plants here. Only the weapons used by the elves come from the lake bed on the outskirts of Heather, smelted from minerals soaked in holy water for years.
"Mage friends, our respected Empress can meet you tomorrow. Today, please rest here and wash away the journey’s dust," said the elf accompanying Lynch. "In the evening, please enjoy our elven meals. If you have any special requests, just follow the path at the door, and you’ll reach our gathering place. Every elf living here will be honored to assist you."
"Thank you," said the Mage. "I really can’t think of anything more to ask for."
Soka reached out from behind Zilvra, tugging on the hood of Lynch’s robe, his face red and a bit embarrassed, said, "Brother Lynch, could you get me some fruit to eat..."
The Mage smiled at the elf, "Friend, could you bring our little one some of her favorite fruits?"
"That won’t be a problem," the elves replied, retreating from the room prepared for the Mages. "We’ll have it ready soon enough."
With the curtain drawn, only the three Mages were in the treehouse. Elf houses, except for holy temples and some very important places, do not have doors. A blue or green curtain decorated with white threads serves as the only barrier between here and the outside world.
The little angel wasn’t dizzy anymore and jumped off Zilvra’s back, happily wandering around the room. The windows here just avoided the dense leaves, letting in the beautiful lake view and the vivid colors of the sunset, along with a refreshing breeze. The interior was very simple, with three hammocks hanging on the side of the room, and soft cushions were piled on the white fur rugs, appearing random yet not chaotic. An incense burner emitted slender wisps of smoke, and the room was filled with various floral and herbal scents.
Zilvra scrutinized the entire room, leaving no corner unchecked. The Mage silently observed her actions from one side. The Drow also noticed Lynch’s gaze, feeling somewhat embarrassed. She asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing important," the Mage said, "just some meaningless speculations."
"Speculation?" Zilvra asked, "Even if it’s speculation, when it’s thought out by you, it’s likely very close to the truth."
"Although that’s a compliment, I hope this hypothesis isn’t too close to the truth," Lynch said. "Speaking of this room, it’s meant for hosting distinguished guests. Generally speaking, when other elf tribes or very important guests arrive, this room is used. We happened to arrive here by coincidence, without prior notice to the Empress. Yet we were still placed in this room..."
"What does that really imply?" Zilvra asked.
"According to my reasoning, there are only two possibilities. First, it’s related to my identity as a Mage; the Elf Queen might want to communicate with the Mage Association. Second, it’s related to the battle that happened here not too long ago," Lynch said quietly. "I don’t really believe that the noble Elf Queen suddenly wants to deal with the proud Mages, which doesn’t match with the elves’ usual independent style. So it’s very likely due to that recent battle." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"What’s so scary about a battle?" Zilvra licked her lips. "I take care of Soka; would your power really fear a battle?"
"In fact, I always want to avoid fighting," the Mage said, putting the Powerful Wand aside and sitting on the swinging chair by the incense burner. "Magic is not meant for killing and fighting."
"But in creating death, none are stronger than Mages," Zilvra said. "Even the Dark Elves, when they went underground, did so because battles descended upon them, creating their race. When a fight is unavoidable, wouldn’t you use your magic?"
