Chapter 409: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Fourteen Past

Secrets are like a grassland ravaged by a wild fire, leaving only a darkened expanse where decaying dust covers the earth, seemingly devoid of life. Yet, when the moment arrives, verdant new sprouts stubbornly push their way through the soil, blooming into vibrant flowers that reveal the almost forgotten history to everyone.

If the rumors about the Elf Queen’s age are True, then the woman standing before Lynch is the most legendary keeper of secrets.

"Mage Lynch, you should be very familiar with that war a thousand years ago. As a member of the Mage Association, there must be plenty of documents that detail the events of that period."

"Yes, Your Majesty," Lynch replied, "I have read some related records in detail."

"Do you know why Heather, as a Holy Land, was unaffected in the battles that swept across the entire continent?"

"It should be because the elves were blessed." Lynch did not have a precise answer to this question but still said, "It might also be because Heather’s elves did not participate in that war, and therefore the flames of war did not spread to this land."

"No, that’s not how it was." Empress Hernfurry slowly paced around the stone pillar, as if trying to awaken her past memories with this method. "Our Elf Clan was actually the first to challenge the gods."

Lynch stepped back in shock; the news was indeed astounding. If what Her Majesty says is True, then the responsibility for starting the war that the mages have borne for a thousand years was actually on behalf of the elves.

"Among our Elf Clan, there were also many mages with outstanding abilities, who could wield extraordinary powers with a mere gesture. These elves had a very close relationship with your Mage Association." The Elf Queen sighed, "Because elves are inherently proud, and those mages were also unruly, my control over the Elf Mages grew increasingly weak. Their intimacy with the Great Arcanists surpassed the connection of elven blood. Before the Great Arcanists challenged the gods, the Elf Mages had already chosen their target to attack."

"If I’m not mistaken, that should be the God of Prophecy," Lynch said.

"Yes, things were exactly as you predicted." The Queen’s speech slowed, as if the millennium-old secrets had become a heavy burden, slowly adding pressure on her shoulders. "A total of one thousand three hundred and twenty-one elf mages lost their immortal bodies, and another one hundred and seventy-two could never see the light again. The flesh and blood of these compatriots rotted under the scorching sun, never to be rejoined with Erutalon’s trickling streams. Even with my abilities, I cannot bring these poor souls to rest. They will eternally suffer, carrying the god’s curse of death, drifting in the Anriel World. I will always remember all of this."

"What a dreadful thing," Lynch remarked, "Too many races paid a huge price in that war."

"Yes," the Elf Queen said, "The God of Prophecy also fell, but he had long predicted his own death and preserved his body in advance. When his Divine Power returns to his body, he will come upon this world again."

"I think the Great Arcanists of that time would not let such a possibility become reality. They must have taken corresponding measures."

The Elf Queen gave Lynch a slight smile, but due to the painful atmosphere rendered by the story, this smile was more bitter.

"The God of Prophecy’s body was imprisoned, strong barriers isolated him from the world. The Divine Power that drifted in the world, the mighty force of prophecy, was sealed within this ’Space-Time Marker’ as the elves’ spoils of war. It was precisely by relying on the ability to foresee the future that when the Great Arcanists battled the god, the elves could avoid the dangers and emerge unscathed in that horrific war."

Lynch frowned, gazing at the massive stone pillar before him. He hadn’t expected this Divine Artifact to imprison a god’s power; the skills of the Ancient Great Arcanists indeed reached a very high level.

"If that is the case, why did a group of elves move underground?" Lynch asked in confusion.

"The power of prophecy, although it guided our direction, was still overshadowed by the historical tides. In a world ravaged by war, where is there truly a Paradise?" The Empress gradually regained her composure, escaping from the painful memories. "To prevent the destruction of the entire Salantir, part of the elves’ land inevitably became a buffer zone. The compatriots there faced the mad enemies alone for the sake of the entire race. It was those people who preserved our bloodline."
