Magus Supremacy-Chapter 821: Could have tried harder!
Chapter 821
Grey was focused entirely on his own cultivation, refining his mana in a lotus position, when the strongest Vice Leader from the Behemoth Clan of the Noxarian faction—Pluck—suddenly initiated an attack from above.
A swirling mass of condensed Ki spun violently above his palm, crackling with lethal intent.
But before he could unleash the strike, a sudden, piercing shout echoed across the battlefield.
"Finally!"
The cry was followed immediately by a sharp trail of brilliant crimson streaking through the air like a fallen star.
"What’s that?" Finral asked, his voice laced with a confused tremor as he pointed toward the atmospheric disturbance.
Bang—!
A thunderous collision occurred in mid-air, followed by the rapid descent of two powerful figures.
Instead of a clumsy crash landing, both combatants touched down smoothly on opposite sides of the scorched earth.
Pluck could be seen scowling deeply at the interloper who had just interrupted his assassination attempt.
Alba, on the other hand, stood three meters away from Noir.
She made sure her back was turned toward the Supreme Magus to act as a living shield, her eyes fixed excitedly on the Vice Leader of the Behemoth Clan.
"Alba? What are you doing here? Why are you standing in my path?!" Pluck shouted, his voice booming with mild anger and bewilderment.
Alba offered no verbal reply.
Instead, she drew her ornate sword with a metallic ring, and without a moment’s hesitation, lunged toward the Vice Leader with incredible speed.
Within a heartbeat, she stood directly before the man, delivering a sharp, horizontal swing of her blade.
Pluck expeditiously leaned his head backwards, narrowly dodging the steel edge which raced past his face with astonishing velocity.
Twisting her wrist with practiced fluidity, Alba caused the blade to suddenly arc back toward Pluck at breakneck speed.
But with a casual, predatory leap backwards, Pluck managed to avoid the sword as it cut through the air with an incredibly sharp, haunting whistle.
"No response to my questions?"
Alba scowled, her grip tightening on her hilt.
"Shouldn’t the lack of a reply have answered you already?"
She paused for a few seconds to stabilize her breathing, then added with a sinister, mocking grin spreading across her face.
"Of course. How could I have forgotten? The Behemoth Clan members are all muscle and no brain, so what should I have truly expected from one of their three Vice Leaders?"
It was now evident that her condescending tone and biting words infuriated him to no end.
Pluck’s hands began to vibrate with a rhythmic intensity.
This was not born out of fear, but rather the result of him trying to contain the massive amount of raw power and Ki coursing through his veins at this very moment.
"I guess you court death."
Alba smirked, completely undeterred by the threat.
"Following the Supreme Magus, it’s obvious that death will always follow us too. So do your worst."
There was no further exchange of words. In fact, there was no need for speech; everything that needed to be said would be discussed through the language of their blades.
BANG—!
Pluck lunged forward with blistering momentum.
His movement was so great that it looked as though he had teleported from where he stood and reappeared instantly in front of Alba.
One defining trait about the Noxarian faction was that they rarely relied on weapons.
They loved letting their fists do the talking, and that was exactly what Pluck was about to demonstrate.
His fist, encased and infused with a stunning amount of golden Ki, rocketed towards Alba at lightning speed.
Even though the sudden burst of speed surprised her for a brief moment, her quick thinking saved her.
In an instant, she flooded her legs with Ki and swiftly sprang to the side with explosive force, causing the rocky terrain to buckle and crack under her weight.
She missed the brunt of the punch by an incredibly thin window of space.
The fist continued its trajectory onward and detonated against the empty air with a loud, sonic crash.
The very air seemed to split in two from the violent passage of his knuckles.
The moment she steadied her footing on the ground, Alba darted forward with rapid velocity.
Reaching Pluck in a jiffy, she hauled her sword towards his exposed flank; Ki flooded the length of her blade just inches from hitting the man.
But with a surprising turn of agility, Pluck spun around like a sharp, broken arrow caught in a gale.
His outstretched hand reversed in a sharp, swift elbow strike aimed directly toward Alba’s face.
The speed was so immense that the leader of the Crimson Lotus Clan was unable to avoid the counter in time.
Hence, she did what was most plausible at the moment.
She lifted her Ki-infused sword and flooded her hands with her remaining drops of energy to enhance her physical strength.
CLANG—!
Pluck’s elbow met the flat back of Alba’s sword with incredible force.
The ground ruptured instantly from the shockwave as the woman ground her teeth against a sudden, throbbing pain in her forearms.
Then, with all her might, she proceeded to parry the elbow to the side, forcing Pluck’s center of gravity to move slightly.
With a sharp burst of speed, she thrust her sword toward his exposed side, ready to pierce through his toughened hide.
The sword struck.
But did it pierce through? Unfortunately, the steel only caused a surface-level scratch on his side.
It was nothing too major, but the sheer force of the thrust still managed to send the heavy man sliding backwards for an inch or so.
Stomping his foot to the ground until the earth shattered into jagged debris, Pluck lunged back toward Alba with a blazing, terrifying show of speed.
A punch aimed at her neck was instantly sidestepped before Alba’s leg sliced through the air in retaliation.
Pluck spun around, his hands crossed in front of him, absorbing the brunt of Alba’s failed kick which only pushed him back an inch.
Swooosh—!
Before he could counterattack, a massive crimson Ki slash barreled toward him at lightning speed.
Coating his hands with half of his Ki, Pluck crossed them in front of himself at the exact moment Alba’s slash collided.
BOOOM—!
The thunderous impact echoed outward as the ground beneath his feet ruptured instantly. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
In fact, the force was still driving him backward, his boots scraping against the fractured earth as the attack had yet to fully dissipate and remained fiercely potent.
At the same time, Alba swiftly flanked him, her sword brimming with an intense amount of Ki that shimmered violently around the blade.
Left with no other option, Pluck poured more Ki into his arms, reinforcing them, and then with a loud grunt, he swung his crossed forearms upward, altering the trajectory of the incoming slash.
Now redirected, it tore through the air toward the skies at blistering velocity.
With a sharp pivot, Pluck rotated and raised one hand just in time to block the vertical strike of Alba’s descending sword.
Clang—!
The metallic collision rang sharply across the battlefield.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. You could have tried better, my dear."
