Chapter 888: Power Bestowed!

Chapter 888

"AAAAAAAAAAARGH!" Grey’s scream tore through the air as he underwent a violent, agonizing evolution.

Every time he had pushed his limits in the past, the process brought about more pain and physical breakdown than the previous instance.

But currently, what he was feeling was ten times worse than any trial he had ever endured.

It was as if all the evolutions he had experienced in the past combined were merely a fraction of the torment he was going through right now.

His head felt as though it would explode from the sheer pressure of the blood rush.

Inside his veins, his life force was violently churning, creating a heat so intense it felt like liquid fire.

His eyes began dripping with thick crimson, the blood trailing down his cheeks as if they were tears of gore.

His bones were snapping like dry twigs under the internal strain, only to rebuild themselves at a tremendous, supernatural speed.

The rapid cycle of destruction and rebirth made it feel like he would lose consciousness at any moment, yet the pain kept him tethered to a brutal reality.

His vision was now beyond blurry, and his perception of the world had shattered completely.

He couldn’t even discern where the sky ended and the earth began.

It felt like being chucked into the cold void of space and left to float and drift around without any sense of direction or gravity.

Deep within him, his Dantian was cracking.

Countless fractures had already appeared on its surface as the Ki surged through his meridians in waves... hitting him with the unstoppable force of a tsunami.

His mana was forced to retreat into the furthest corners of his soul, utterly unable to withstand the massive influx of Celestial Ki flooding the mage’s body.

He kept screaming over and over again until his lungs were on the verge of cracking under the rhythmic strain.

That was only the inward result of the transformation.

The terrain itself was also reacting to his evolution.

Jagged cracks were forming at different spots across the wasteland, spider-webbing outward from his position.

The ground shuddered continuously with every raw scream that erupted from his mouth.

Violent gusts of wind blasted out in all directions, the localized gales even pushing Borfan’s depleted body several metres away.

Where the mage lay, the ground collapsed further, becoming a much deeper hollow compared to when he had been smashed into the earth.

His body could no longer even be seen from the surface as he sank into the earth-like abyss.

Only the occasional, haunting scream from his lungs betrayed his presence in the depths of the wasteland.

Blood spilled continuously from his mouth, and he found himself choking on the crimson liquid while clawing at the dirt, silently begging for the torture to end.

It felt as if his very mental health was collapsing from the sheer, unadulterated torture he was experiencing at the moment.

Simultaneously, the massive Ki fist Borfan had suspended over the landscape shattered like brittle glass following the warrior’s collapse.

The vanishing pressure finally allowed Thalos to breathe freely again.

Instead of immediately checking on Grey, the gargoyle dashed toward the warrior’s frail, skeletal body in the distance.

Kneeling beside him, Thalos could see that Borfan’s eyelids were weakly fluttering.

His breathing had become increasingly shallow as he gazed up at the clear, indifferent sky overhead.

"What did you do? This is not how I envisioned you would go," Thalos uttered, his voice heavy with a rare somberness as he knelt beside the dying man.

Borfan didn’t give a response at first.

He just kept staring at the blue expanse while feeling the warmth slowly leave his limbs.

Instead of just gifting Grey his Ki, he had decided to tap into his very life force, transferring every single drop of his existence into the mage. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Now, he was just a few precious seconds away from death’s door.

"What about your kids? Won’t they resent Grey, thinking that he killed you?" Thalos questioned, looking down at the hollowed-out shell of a legend.

This finally elicited a reaction from Borfan, who weakly turned his head to stare at the gargoyle for several agonizing seconds.

With an aged and croaking voice, he replied:

"They won’t. I already informed Dame’s elder brothers about my plan... so they know. They didn’t even try—try stopping me, for whatever reason."

He paused for a few seconds, a ghost of a smile touching his pale lips, before adding in a faint whisper.

"... The Supreme Magus sh-should still be careful, though. Those boys are—are loose cannons. They are unpredictable, so I don’t know exactly what they will do, be—because even I was unable to control them completely."

Gasping for air for several long seconds while the harrowing echoes of the mage’s screams filled the void, Borfan added:

"I’m sorry, old friend. I will have to leave the Supreme Magus in your capable care. I—I—I have played my part in all these trials, and I—I hope it will be enough. I—I don’t know how strong he would truly become after this, but I hope it will be enough. I—I—I’M sorry."

Thalos closed his eyes for a moment, trying to push back the sudden surge of raw emotions he was feeling.

When he finally opened them, he saw that Borfan was no more.

The great warrior had finally found his peace. Steeling himself against the grief, the gargoyle gently closed the warrior’s unseeing eyes while bowing deeply toward him.

"Your sacrifice will be forever remembered, old friend. Grey will forever be grateful for this legacy."

"Ack...."

Thalos spun around to see the Supreme Magus slowly crawling out of the abyss-like hollow he had been buried in.

Fresh blood was spilling from his lips as he looked in Thalos’ direction, his movements jerky and uncoordinated.

His eyes looked incredibly weak, clouded with a haze of exhaustion that suggested he could collapse at any heartbeat.

Seeing this transformation, Thalos froze in sheer shock for a moment.

"Yo—You are done so soon? Yo—You have already evolved into a stage eight Yun warrior!"

***

Earlier, before this miraculous transfer, Grey had been a mere stage four warrior.

With this sudden, violent evolution, he had shot up the ranks of power tremendously.

Something that would have naturally taken him decades of grueling cultivation to accomplish had been achieved in a few frantic minutes, all thanks to Borfan’s selfless gift.

Pushing himself to his feet with trembling limbs, the mage began tottering over toward them like a drunkard.

Each step he took sent a fresh wave of immense pain tearing through his reconstructed body, but he huffed, stubbornly forcing himself to walk forward.

"From one pain to the other... emotionally, physically, and mentally. I keep enduring this torture all the time," Grey rasped as he finally managed to reach Thalos’ position.

Dropping heavily to his knees, he stared down at Borfan’s frail, lifeless body in front of him.

His teeth ground back and forth as he processed the scene.

They hadn’t been close; heck, they had only met twice in person, yet Grey felt a fury that went beyond simple anger.

He couldn’t fully comprehend why a virtual stranger would sacrifice everything for him, but he wasn’t about to disrespect the monumental power he had just received.

Squeezing his hands in and out, feeling the raw, tremendous power of the Celestial Ki coursing through his palms, Grey reached out and gently grasped Borfan’s cold hand.

"I promise you, I will cherish your gift dearly. Thank you for this, Borfan Grimvale. Rest well, brave warrior, because now, it is the Otherworlders’ turn to feel a wave of pain."

Grey declared his vow with a fierce, determined expression on his face.

As he spoke, his eyes began shining a completely different, transcendent colour.
