Marriage Alliance With The Lycan Monarch-Chapter 56: Moonblood
Chapter 56: Moonblood
"Dia," I murmured. "Is there something I can help you with today?"
"I still don’t get it."
"Pardon?"
"How could the monarch marry a human like you?" she observed as if she was peeling my skin with her eyes. "Scrawny, pale, hideous color of hair," she uttered in disgust, like my mere presence repulsed her.
"Why not choose a Lycan girl instead of this? You must be proud of yourself for seducing a monarch with your elusive skills; that is the only way he would’ve married you. Or do humans use magic to charm their males?"
That’s it! I have had enough of this brat, to damn be the consequence.
I pulled on her ear. "Listen here, you twat! Didn’t they teach you not to speak unruly?"
"How dare you pull on my ear!" she screamed at my face.
"Why make such a big deal? It does not hurt after all!"
Dia pushed off me and seethed at me, rubbing her red ear.
Wait. Did I hurt her?
"I shall ensure you get what you deserve for this insolence!"
In a heartbeat, I stepped closer to her, leaning to check her ear.
"W-What are you doing?" she attempted to pull away, but I had already clutched my handkerchief.
"Stay still, there’s blood," I said, gently wiping it off. "If you had watched your tone, I wouldn’t have done this."
I feel bad now. She may be a crude girl, but I had no right to punish her like this.
Dia stared at me like I had sprouted two heads, her mouth agape. I didn’t even get to clean the little blood off when she smacked my hand away.
"Ow!"
"Y-Your Grace!"
The handkerchief dropped on the floor, and Dia stomped on it with her shoes. Making it her mission to ruin the fine cloth.
"This little brat!" I growled.
"Who are you calling a little brat? I’m older than you!" she yelled. freeweɓnovel-cøm
I took one look at her and found myself not positive. I couldn’t be wrong because she looked no less than seventeen! Or less?
"I don’t think so," I replied.
Dia looked as if she would explode now. Instead, she took a deep breath as if trying to tolerate me.
This girl was getting on my nerves!
"I shouldn’t waste my time with meaningless trash."
I gasped at her audacity to call me that in my face.
"There isn’t much to the human trash; the monarch brought back home a disappointment."
She pushed her hair backwards, the leaves falling off as she did.
I watched Dia with a dark glare as she walked out on me.
"If I see her one time, I might succumb to my urge to smack her backside."
"Y-Your Grace," Osha whispered to me. "It’s strange that she bled easily. Even though we do, that pull wouldn’t have hurt her so much."
"What do you mean?"
"I noticed her scent is odd, too. It’s hard to tell, but I don’t think she’s a Lycan."
"Does that mean she’s human?" I couldn’t believe my own words because that shouldn’t be possible.
"I’m uncertain."

I don’t think I can take another night without Drevon. How long has it been? I lost count on the third day.
I kept telling myself I shouldn’t dwell on his absence, after all, he had spent the past week with me, what’s a few more days without him?
Regardless, not seeing him working on that table, sneaking occasional glances at me, caused an emptiness.
I sighed for the seventh time today.
"Your Grace, please eat s-something," Osha pleaded.
"I have already," I replied, veering the half-eaten meal to the side.
"B-But that’s not enough. If you don’t eat well, you might fall ill."
I fixed her with a pointed stare. "You know about my ailment."
"Yes, the monarch told me before he assigned me to you. He instructed me that I should always make sure you eat healthy foods, and your favorite pastries are always on the table. Oh, and your bath is always at a specific temperature."
My stomach did that dance, the butterflies fluttering happily. I shook my head to get rid of the feeling. It was his choice to have some space; besides, I should be the one angry at him for leaving me behind like that.
I must stick to my nonchalant behavior.
I cleared my throat. "Osha," I began in a serious tone, hoping to distract myself. "Tell me more about Lycans."
That was a good way to start, given that nothing was faithful to the books I read anymore.
"Oh, um..." she trailed. "W-What exactly do you want to know, Your Grace?"
"About Alpha’s rarely shifting and disturbing the balance? Lucan mentioned something like that."
"Oh! It is true! You see, Lycans have a magical essence that runs through our veins called the Moonblood."
"Moonblood?"
She nodded. "The first Lycans created by the moon goddess were born with it. There isn’t much to the history because during the war, many of our texts of origin were lost."
"Oh, that’s unfortunate."
"I-It truly is, Your Grace. Our ancient traditions are lost now," Osha said sadly.
"I’m sorry to hear that."
"It’s alright, at least now we’re reestablishing our traditions. We still honor the moon goddess."
"How can you be sure about that?"
"Pardon?"
I folded my arms. "I mean, if the original tradition was lost during the war that altered the course of the world. Don’t you think that some reestablishment might be wrong?"
Osha blinked. "I never thought of that."
I shrugged. "So the Moonblood..."
"Right, Your grace." She collected herself. "T-The Moonblood is very powerful in Alphas, so when they shift, it’s like a natural disaster. W-When their claws scratch the surface, it can split the entire thing apart, and when they howl to the moon, the air vibrates. When they roar with rage, it can cause a tsunami, and the rivers part. And their b-beast form is much massive than the average Lycans."
It felt like she was making things up now, with the manner she explained.
"So you’re saying, when an Alpha shifts into their beast form, it causes natural cataclysms?"
"Yes!"
"And have you seen an Alpha in its actual form?"
She shook her head. "S-Sadly, no. Alphas rarely shift, and if they do before your eyes, you never live to tell the tale. It collides heavily with their Alpha command, but only an Alpha who has trained properly can control this with precision."
