Married To The Enemy Kingdom's Illegitimate Prince-Chapter 72 — Fire of Revenge
Chapter 72: 72 — Fire of Revenge
Once arrived at the estate, Lucian was urgently brought to his bedroom. He sat on the bed, while waiting for the doctor.
The physician rushed to his quarters shortly afterwards and examined him thoroughly.
"It’s nothing serious. He will heal within two days," the man stated before leaving the room.
Elise, who Cynthia hadn’t seen for a long time, sat beside Lucian as if it were the most natural thing to do when his wife, the grand duchess, stood beside his bed!
Outrageous! How can he bear such insolence?
Unable to ask him, Cynthia inhaled deeply.
"Elise, don’t you have work to do? I, His Highness’s wife, am here to assist him in case he needs help. You might resume your tasks," she firmly stated, without grinning as she would usually do. She was too exhausted to put on an act after using that much mana.
"His Highness wouldn’t want—" Elise halted, glancing at the grand duke who gave her a nod of agreement.
"I will take my leave, then," The red-haired young woman bowed to the grand duke respectfully before exiting.
Seeing the frown on Cynthia’s face, Lucian softly said.
"Are you upset because she didn’t bow to you before leaving?"
Cynthia looked at him in disbelief. She wasn’t the kind to care about such things. However, she didn’t see the need to explain herself. It didn’t matter what he thought of her or assumed from her actions.
If he were to misinterpret, the better, actually. That way, he won’t even understand me.
The silver-haired young woman smiled, letting him assume he was right.
"Can I sit?" She asked in a low tone, almost a whisper.
Lucian hesitantly nodded. He did feel slightly grateful to her for saving him. Although the next thought was: why?
If he were to die, she would have benefitted the most from it. She could have possessed all his wealth, take over the duchy, although it wasn’t properly established yet. She could also return to Eldoria without being bound by the marriage none of the two, him and Cynthia, wanted.
As always, I can’t understand her.
Letting a soft sigh, Lucian gazed at the lady sitting beside him. She had grabbed a chair and sat down on it unlike Elise who had sat on his bed without permission.
"Perhaps that’s the difference the king told me about between the lower blood and..." his thoughts were interrupted by Cynthia who coughed to clear her throat.
"I..." she paused, as if hesitant. "I apologize. I didn’t know the side effects of magic spells could be this severe..."
"It’s alright... it’s not like I could have stopped it," Lucian leaned back.
"Yes... but, it could have been worse. I didn’t think before acting," Cynthia pursed her lips. It would be a lie if she said she didn’t feel guilty. She thought she was ready to fight everything coming her way, yet this unexpected turn of events had somehow turned low the fire of revenge inside her. Was it because she had seen what a real fire looked like? One that would burn down anything that came its way? She couldn’t help but wonder if what she was thinking of doing would have the same effect.
However, it didn’t matter. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
She no longer cared.
She was ready to burn herself if needed for her revenge.
Surprised by her unexpected apology, Lucian let out words he never thought would say to Cynthia, Princess of Eldoria, the every kingdom he loathed.
"Thank you," his deep voice said, almost a whisper escaping his mouth.
With a loud thud, Cynthia rose from the chair.
"I should head back," she said, bowing briefly out of courtesy before rushing out of the bedroom.
The door slammed shut behind her as she sped through the hallways, her heart pounding. She needed to do something—anything—but didn’t know what. A storm of emotions swirled inside her, making it impossible to think clearly. The words she had always wanted to hear from Lucian had finally been said, yet they brought her no joy.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she reached her room. She flung the door open and slammed it behind her, sinking to the floor. Gasping for air, she broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. No matter how many times she wiped her tears, they wouldn’t stop.
She had longed for recognition in her past life, yearned to be acknowledged, but no one had ever cared enough to notice if she even existed.
These tears—they were nothing but witnesses to the pain she had tried so hard to bury.
"Twice," she whispered between ragged breaths. "You’ll need to cry twice more, Your Highness."

The next day, everything went back to normal as if nothing ever happened. Cynthia resumed her work as a grand duchess while Lucian went to the forest to examine the ruins of the cave personally.
"Your Highness, you have received a letter," Anni hesitantly spoke, fidgeting with the envelope in her hands.
"Open it," Cynthia ordered, scribbling words with the quill in her hand on the paper.
"It’s a..." Anni halted, inhaling deeply before continuing. "It’s from Countess Gionhard."
Cynthia paused, raising her gaze at Anni.
"Countess Gionhard, you say?"
The young girl nodded.
"Open it and place it here."
Anni nodded, cutting the envelope’s corner and pulling out the letter inside it. She gently placed it at the corner of the table.
"Then, I will get going. Please let me know if you need something," the young maid bowed before exiting the grand duchess’ study room and closing the door behind.
Cynthia continued her work for a moment before pausing. Her mind raced as she tried to understand why Countess Gionhard would contact her. From their last meeting, it didn’t seem like the countess appreciated her.
Wait. Is she planning some lame bullying session with her friends?
A smirk formed on her lips at the thought. She opened the well folded letter and read it.
[Greetings, Grand Duchess.
I would like to apologize for the rude words that my friends told you at my tea party. However, I would appreciate it if you could come to my son’s birthday celebration.
I am eagerly waiting for your response,
Sincerely,
Countess Gionhard.]
"Eagerly waiting for my reply? Why not wait until the day of the party, Countess Gionhard?" Cynthia chuckled, wadded the letter into a ball before throwing it in the fire that was put on in the firewell to heat up the study room.
