Chapter 164: Bad influence

"Is there something wrong?" Arthur inquired slowly and inquisitively.

Freya and Darren were both staring at her with identical expressions.

Their minds asking, ’She looks shocked, but why?’

Sage swallowed and sighed deeply as she realized they hadn’t heard Aurora. But what was Aurora doing when she wasn’t at the mansion?

"Nothing." She laughed. "Rather than you shifting, we should take a carriage." She told Arthur, who slowly nodded and walked away.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Darren inquired, his hand clenched around her coat.

When his eyes met fierce threatening silver reptile like eyes that looked exactly like the ice dragon’s eyes, he was immediately jolted away in fear.

"What the hell is going on?" He screamed in terror as he realized it was a guardian beast.

"Do not provoke him." Sage said it casually, without looking at him.

Darren looked at her in disbelief, then back at the terrified nine-tailed fox. He appeared to be about to leap out of Sage’s arms and charge at him.

He swallowed hard, trying to keep his fear at bay. It was the guardian beast of the ice dragon, but why was he black, and what was he doing with Sage?

He clenched his teeth and turned his gaze away from the nine-tailed fox. "Absurd." Darren mumbled.

Freya was intrigued by this scene. She was successful in concealing her fear of the nine-tailed fox, but she couldn’t conceal her disgust for Darren, a halfling. Half statkus mage, half water mage.

She turned away from him and looked at Sage, who had a straight nonchalant expression on her face and appeared to be lost in her thoughts.

She smiled dimly, recalling Sage’s demeanor when they first met.

She seemed to care about the halfling, implying that they had a history, but she was also madly in love with the king, who was now trapped in his dark state after killing his normal state.

’What made him do such a heinous thing?’ She inquired her thoughts.

Suddenly, she heard horses neighing and a carriage driven by Arthur came to a halt behind her. He had a big smile on his face as she turned to look at him.

"The sky is extremely cloudy. It will almost certainly snow tonight." Arthur exclaimed cheerfully.

"Darren, take the lead." Sage told Darren, who nodded slowly and walked right into the carriage.

"Do you think it is a good idea to involve him?" Arthur inquired, concerned.

"I do not have a choice. Take us to the mountains, I am sure we will find something there, and we will definitely meet the earth mages." Sage informed him, and he nodded.

"He will summon them. Intriguing." Arthur chuckled, and she smiled back. "If you want me to stop the carriage, tap it." He continued, and she nodded.

"I will sit next to him." Freya told Sage, who smiled and entered the carriage.

Freya pushed the door shut, jumped into the carriage, and sat next to Arthur, who smiled brightly at her, causing her to roll her eyes.

....

Snowflake was sleeping on Sage’s lap as she stroked his fur, lost in thought.

Aurora...

Was Aurora following her in order to report to Cyrus?

That couldn’t be.

She couldn’t keep herself away from the mansion for too long.

"Stop doing that! You are starting to look a lot like him!" Sage was lost in thought as she stroked Snowflake’s fur.

It wasn’t the first time she’d been told she acted like Cyrus.

Was it a bad influence?

Sage pursed her lips and looked at Darren, who was staring at her. She averted her gaze and chewed her lower lip.

"You are changing every day, Sage, and I do not like it." Darren spoke calmly.

"You should get some rest." She told him without looking at him.

"How did you know I was thinking of the mountains?" With a smirk, Darren inquired.

"I do not want you talking to me." Sage clenched her teeth and growled.

Darren sighed in frustration, clenched his fists, and gritted his teeth in rage. "You speak to me as if we haven’t had any moments together, Sage," Darren growled, and Sage took a breath and closed her eyes.

"Sage, you know how much I love you! You already know how much I love you, but you married the ice dragon!" He screamed angrily.

"Darren... Loved." Sage exhaled, her lips quivering.

"I will always love you, and you know it!" Darren groaned and moved in closer.

"I do not know anything. You should refrain from speaking." Sage exhaled deeply and said.

"What have I ever done to you?" In disbelief, Darren inquired. "Have I ever harmed you? I have never hurt you! But he has!"

Sage took a moment to stroke the fur of the nine-tailed fox.

Snowflake’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Darren.

"We made memories, but it appears that you have forgotten them all because of him!" Darren screamed. "You are speaking to me as if you have never kissed me, held my hand, or let me touch your alluring smooth skin." He added in a deep hungry whisper, moving even closer to her until his body touched hers.

Sage took a deep breath and swallowed.

"Da.."

"I never claimed you... I regret it, which is why he took you away from me, but we are now together." He trailed off, whispered in her ear, and smiled in relief when he realized she wasn’t pushing him away.

"Sage, we can relive everything even better than before." He told her, sounding a little excited, before kissing her ear.

Sage let out a gasp, and Snowflake growled angrily.

He was about to attack the halfling when Sage slapped him hard, causing a fresh steaming burn that caused him to scream in agony.

"Get the fuck away from me!" She screamed at him as he covered his affected cheek and moved to the carriage’s edge.

He kept yelling, and her eyes burned with rage. "Never, ever touch me." She breathed in anger.

The nine-tailed fox glared at Darren, and for a split second, his eyes changed from silver reptile-like to blue slits.
