Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 208: Memories of friendship 3
The temperature had dropped even further, and the dullness in his eyes was unwaveringly calm as he focused his gaze on the frozen lake.
River stood behind him, his gaze fixed on the frozen lake. He was wondering what caught Cyrus’ attention there. Cyrus had always come to the lake at night, and River had always followed him.
They always talked about trivial matters there, but it wasn’t long before they realized they were almost similar. They were burdened with responsibilities.
Cyrus had a large kingdom to rule, and River’s was on the horizon.
According to his father, he was weak and under his sister’s shadow because she was the one receiving the hardest and toughest training, but he never felt that way because Ophelia had never placed him over her shoulder or made him feel inferior to her. Their bond was unbreakable.
"I envy you." Cyrus said this without looking at him.
"Why?" River arched her brow.
"You have a family." Cyrus whispered, his small voice heavy, and turned to face River, who wore a small smile.
"You have Ashton."
"It’s not enough." Cyrus cut in with a sharp tone. "You are leaving." He added while lowering his head and pursing his lips.
"I will return, I will always come visit and play with you." River laughed and approached Cyrus, who lifted his head, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Really?!" River nodded happily as Cyrus’ voice rhymed with his excitement.
"I will."
Cyrus smiled again and lowered his head. River sighed and embraced him, patting his back, sensing his sadness. "No matter what you do, I will never end our friendship." He whispered.
Cyrus’ pupils dilated. "Friendship? We are friends?" It all sounded surreal, almost like a dream. He tried to pull away abruptly, but River only tightened the hug. "No! I am a dangerous. If you see what I am capable of, you won’t like me." Cyrus said panickedly.
River smiled and closed his eyes. "Who hasn’t heard of you? Plus, I have killed countless people who have attempted to harm my siblings." River spoke as if it were an accomplishment, and Cyrus stopped struggling.
"It’s... it’s not like that. I..."
"I trust you, you trust me, and I will be eternally grateful to you for saving I and Ophelia." River intervened and pulled away from the hug.
Cyrus nodded slowly, his lips trembling. His friend wasn’t aware of his origins at the time and he didn’t even know how to tell him.
"Come on, we have to cross the border. Our friendship, however, will remain unknown to others." River finished his words by patting Cyrus’ shoulder, then turned away and ran into the forest ahead.
Cyrus parted his lips and looked in the direction River had vanished. River’s seriousness about their friendship was.. unexpected. He wanted to say something, but a sharp pain in his stomach caused him to cough up blood and fall to his knees.
When he looked at the blood on the icy ground, his eyes flashed from ice blue to pure black demon eyes. "That food." He hissed and coughed up some more thick blood. "We have been poisoned."
He coughed again, then let out a deep menacing growl as his eyes remained completely in demon form. Black eerie mist began to emanate from him, and he was soon completely engulfed in it.
Not many knew about this but, he came out of hell in his demonic state but switched back to his dark state during his normal day routine, and whenever he had the thirst for destruction, he always switched to his demonic state. He also killed the Soldans in his demonic state, and both his dark and normal states were well aware of it, including Ashton, who never said anything.
Now that he had been poisoned, his dark state took control, but the next second, his demonic state took control. The mist that was engulfing him was an act of containment, which meant he would be in his demonic state for a long time.
...
A large frozen lake separated two lands at the border. It was a desolate vast land devoid of trees, with only two massive dragon statues facing each other.
There was a dragon of a fire dragon where the Firerian dragons stood, and an ice dragon statue where the Antican dragons stood.
A man with an ugly smile dressed in a red cloak stood in front of the small army of Firerian dragons, his gaze fixed on a pair of twins who were staring at him wordlessly.
Ashton looked at the man with a blank expression. "So?" He inquired flatly.
"I have come to reclaim the prince and princess." The man stated.
"And you are?" Maintaining a flat tone, Ashton inquired.
"Lord Esteban!" The man declared.
"So that’s your uncle?" River nodded as Ashton asked the twins, while Ophelia’s gaze on Esteban became more menacing by the second.
"You can have them." Ashton sighed.
"Where is Cyrus?" River felt compelled to inquire. He had expected Cyrus to follow him immediately, but there was no sign of him, which worried him.
"He will be here soon, I guess," Ashton replied lazily, shifting his gaze to Ophelia, who appeared to be about to murder Esteban.
"Ophelia," he called, but she turned away.
Esteban’s ugly smile widened when he noticed the little girl’s burning gaze.
"What’s the problem?" River was taken aback by Ophelia’s current behavior.
"That bastard is a traitor; he only pretended to save us and brought us here thinking the ice dragon would kill us." Ophelia revealed herself and pointed at him.
River was stunned, but there was no way Ophelia could be lying, and Esteban’s sudden frown only proved her point.
"You..!" River pointed at him.
"Keep quiet and return home, everyone is worried. Come now, before they start pointing fingers." Esteban was unconcerned.
"Interesting." Ashton laughed amusedly.
"Stay away from us! We will return ourselves!" Ophelia screamed angrily at Esteban.
"Do not defy me!" Esteban hissed.
"And who do you think you are?" River growled at him, and both his and Ophelia’s eyes transformed into their golden reptile-like form.
"Foolish children!" Esteban yelled and took on the form of a dragon. He was a huge black dragon, and his red menacing gaze was fixed on the angry pair of twins, but when he blinked, he saw a little boy River’s height. Esteban was taken aback by his long dark hair, demonic eyes, and the dark mist erupting from him.
As Cyrus appeared in front of them, River and Ophelia were astounded to see him look so different, and the mist... What was going on?
Ashton drew them away from Cyrus. "Stay away from him!" He warned them sternly, and they looked at him, puzzled.
Cyrus, like an overpowered drunkard, turned to face them and smiled wickedly. "I was poisoned, Ashton," In a singsong tone, he said.
