..

As they made their way back into the mansion, Stefan kept an eye on Sage. They were moving fairly quickly while she and Katherine were conversing, but Stefan was actually walking more slowly with the demon by his side.

He had a strong sense that something powerful was lurking around her. Even though it didn’t seem to be a threat, he was still concerned.

Had she come across someone powerful? They weren’t supposed to be lurking her energy, even if she had.

"Her energy.." He trailed off and came to a halt as he watched her and Katherine disappear down the hall. "You..!" He looked over at the demon beside him.

Ashton smirked and took a step towards him, which caught him off guard, and he took an unconscious step backwards, swallowing hard. "D...do you think hiding something like that from Cyrus is a good idea?" He stumbled over his words.

Ashton’s eyes changed into that thick black demon form, he breathed out and shook his head slowly, still walking towards Stefan, who was moving away unconsciously.

"Won’t he find out for himself? Plus, that arrogant kid may be aware of it." Ashton smirked deviously and whispered.

Stefan blinked quickly, holding his breath, unsure of how his body was reacting to the cunning demon’s proximity to him.

"She is going to hurt my sister, and I want to know what her plans are." He tried and barely succeeded in finding his voice.

"Did you just come to Leimpia to ask me that?" Ashton inquired, scoffing. "Admit it, righteous Lord Stefan, you miss me." His eyes glimmered darkly as he whispered those words, almost in a warning tone.

Ashton scoffed in disbelief. "How can I admit..."

Ashton slammed hand on the wall beside his head, cutting off his words and making his heart skip a beat. At that moment, Stefan felt his back against the wall, and Ashton grinned deviously, caging the lord behind his arms.

"Admit it."

"I..impossible." Stefan was nervous, and no matter how hard he tried, Ashton could tell.

"Admit it," Ashton said quietly, leaning dangerously close to Stefan. He cocked his head, his gaze narrowing into those widened emerald eyes, his gaze trailing to those delicate pink lips.

Ashton’s smile widened as he noticed the Lord’s chest rising and falling and nibbling his own lips to suppress the nervousness he was feeling.

"Well," Ashton eased back, but Stefan yanked him back with a tight grip on his shirt, and an amused smile curved Ashton’s face as he saw the Lord’s fierce yet flustered expression. "I miss you too righteous lord Stefan," Ashton said quietly, lightly chuckling.

Ashton’s eyes widened in shock as he heard the demon’s light laughter.

"You missed me?" Stefan was filled with disbelief, and his grip on Ashton’s shirt only tightened, causing the demon to stare at him with a mixture of curiosity and amusement.

"You do not believe me?" Ashton cocked his brow and laughed heartily.

"How am I supposed to believe you, Ashton Petrov, second prince of hell?" Stefan asked, frowning, and drawing Ashton closer until their noses were an inch apart. "It’s completely ridiculous." He whispered, pressing his nose against Ashton’s.

Ashton’s lips shook and parted, revealing his elongated, thick fangs. He suddenly grabbed Stefan’s shirt, pinning him to the ground.

"What can I do to persuade you to believe me?"

Stefan gasped as he noticed how menacingly bewitching that demon looked at him. His chest rose and he pushed himself forward, tightening his grip and quickly switching positions, pinning Ashton to the wall.

Ashton burst out laughing, and his fangs vanished from view. "What the hell is going on in your head, righteous lord Stefan?"

"I think you know," Stefan chuckled deeply and paused with a devious smile. He let go of Ashton’s shirt and began to trail his fingers along the silver buttons of his shirt, using his powers to make each of them disappear. His gaze was fixed on the buttons, and he was relieved that they weren’t betraying him to look at the demon’s chest.

Stefan turned away and walked away, smiling mischievously, leaving the demon stunned.

....

Sage returned to the sitting room, her gaze drawn to the fireplace. When she and Katherine returned to the room, the fire had been lit without anyone touching it. She was certain that it was a fire mage and that Cyrus’ earlier reaction meant that something had gone wrong with the soulbond.

Could that brief encounter have jumbled the soulbond?

"Sage?" Katherine, who was sitting on the couch staring at Sage, called puzzledly.

"Hmm?"

"Is there something wrong?" Sage let out a deep sigh and turned to face Katherine.

"I think I met Ioas." Sage revealed, and she was certain of her words. It had to be him, after all, she had his flare.

Katherine’s eyes widened with surprise. "Did you see him?" She stood up and exclaimed.

"Not in the physical sense; he was in the fire." Katherine nodded slowly as Sage pointed to the fireplace.

"I trust you." Sage smiled as she sighed. "After all, before I came to Leimpia, I kept seeing Inkadon in my dreams, but it wasn’t always her voice I heard; sometimes it was another voice." She added slowly and sadly, then sat back in her chair, rubbing her irritated face.

"I feel so weak." Sage’s heart clenched as Katherine groaned.

"Do not feel that way, Katherine," Sage grumbled before gasping in realization. "That voice!"

Could it be that it was the statkus mage who was more powerful than the elder statkus mages?

Katherine fixed her gaze on Sage. "It sounded like a female." She revealed herself and stood up, walking towards Sage, then unexpectedly placed her hands on Sage’s shoulder and closed her eyes.

Katherine was instantly enveloped in a sky blue glow, while Sage was enveloped in a fiery red glow.

Sage closed her eyes and appeared in the darkness of her closed eyes. Suddenly, she heard a raspy voice echoing in the darkness.

"You must obtain her fire core, even if it means killing her. You must obtain her fire core, even if it means killing her. You must obtain her fire core, even if it means killing her." The voice chanted solemnly, and soon there was shrieking laughter.

Katherine exclaimed as she took her hand off Sage’s shoulder, and the glows that had engulfed them vanished.

Sage froze in shock, while Katherine was blinking rapidly in discomfort that she was trying to recover from.

"That voice..." Sage’s voice shook and faded into a whisper.

Katherine looked at her with interest. "Does it ring a bell?"

Sage’s gaze was fixed on Katherine, hard and stiff, leaving her confused and worried.

"Sage!" She yelled and grabbed her by the shoulders.

Sage’s lips trembled, her eyes remained unblinking, and she finally revealed, "It... it was Lianna."
