Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 237: A lot of risks
Sage was happier to have a long, hot bath than she was for the food she had eaten. After her stomach was full, she lay in bed and let out a long sigh while Katherine covered her with a heavy white duvet.
She had caught up on Sage’s brief adventure but still could not believe it.
"So this ice god Alistair saved you from that shriek, which was a call from the Statkus portal?" She asked for clarification on everything.
Sage just yawned, then nodded.
Katherine sighed deeply. "There are no missing mages, implying that the call was intended only for you."
Sage pressed her lips to those words, deeply grateful. But then, realizing it was only two days until Cyrus’ birthday, she pushed herself into a sitting position, gasping in surprise. "I need your help!"
Katherine was caught off guard. "What? You need to be careful. You need to recover from all the fighting."
"But it is not over yet! The books! Where are the books and scrolls?!" Sage asked, clutching Katherine’s shoulders.
Katherine inhaled deeply. "I..."
"Katherine!" Sage snapped, startling her.
"Sage, you need to calm down. Everyone has been concerned about you. Cyrus, and your brother as well." Katherine said, trying to calm her down.
Sage slowly released her shoulders. "There is no time to waste. Cyrus’s birthday is in two days."
Katherine’s gaze grew wide. "What are your plans?"
Sage let out a long, heavy breath. She was worried, but she was also genuinely happy.
These were not her emotions.
She took a deep breath. "I intended to restore Cyrus to his original state by making him transform into his dragon form, but I am afraid I only have a limited amount of time."
Katherine sighed, lowering her head. "You want to die at his hands? You do not intend to fight back? Sage! I understand he is your husband, but keep in mind that you have your own people! You have subjects who regard you as their ruler!"
Sage swallowed deeply, tears welling up in her eyes, but she managed to hide them with a smile.
"Please help me." She whimpered, sniffing.
Katherine looked at her in awe, unsure how to persuade her. Sighing, she extended her hands, and four large ancient books appeared alongside the small scrolls.
Sage slowly gathered them. "Have you studied all of these?"
Katherine nodded. "Do you want to do the same?"
Sage’s eyes darkened with stubborn determination at the question. "We are going to the land of the sea of blood to lift the curse."
Katherine bit down on her lower lip, her brow furrowed in surprise. "It is a cursed realm for a reason, Sage. It has been so for a long time."
"You claimed the mages regard me as their ruler. I am their queen, and I will protect them. Giving them their rightful home is the first thing I will do for them." Sage responded, a deep frown forming on her face.
Katherine shook her head, disagreeing. "I did not mean it that way. I..."
"Credia is gone. But it was never truly our home." Sage spoke up, her eyes brimming with excitement. "Ioas cursed it! Our realm! Our home! But I have the flare now. I am capable of lifting it!"
Katherine let out a heavy sigh. "Sage. The risk. I will open the portal and keep you safe from the cursed mages, but you must enter the sea of blood. I will not let you take that risk."
Sage smiled, acknowledging her concern. But it was a risk she was happy to take. Fortunately, she had more risks to take, which meant she was not willing to make herself a sacrifice.
Not just yet.
Katherine stared at Sage for a long time, feeling the impatience in her eyes. This was a large risk. Going into the land of the sea of blood. The last time she was there, she had made certain that she and all the mages remained in one location, protected by her spell.
She felt uneasy. But she was aware that she had grown even stronger than she was before. And she was going to help her dear friend return the mages to their rightful home. Their home. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
She smiled. A smile Sage returned.
"Let’s protect one another." Sage said.
"Yes." She accepted right away, tears welling up in her eyes as she took Sage’s hands in hers. "Do not disappear again. Please."
Sage nodded, grinning. Even though it was a promise, she could not promise to keep.
Katherine, however, gripped her shoulders as if she could read her thoughts. Her eyes widened, then narrowed into Sage’s, as if digging into her soul.
"Promise me! Promise me that you will not disappear!" Desperation filled her eyes and voice. She made Sage’s heart sink.
"I..." Sage burst out laughing, her smile widening and reaching her eyes far enough to convince Katherine.
But just as she was about to finish speaking, the door flew open, revealing Mirabella and Isabella. They both appeared relieved to see Sage, but Sage was taken aback by their unexpected appearance.
Mirabella rushed to her. "Sage!" And snatched her into an embrace.
Grinning, Isabella trailed behind and gently shut the door.
Katherine let go of Sage’s hands and rose with a deep sigh.
Sage returned Mirabella’s embrace with a smile.
If only they knew what she was about to do. She intended to break the spell of a severely corrupt realm that has existed for thousands of years.
"... Stefan?" Mirabella inquired as she stood next to Katherine, who had vanished from her mind.
Sage tilted her head, staring at them. "Why do you sound hesitant?" She put the books on the bed and pushed herself out.
Mirabella exhaled. "He has been detained."
Sage’s eyes widened. "What?"
"No, not in the dungeon. Just in his chambers." Katherine immediately clarified.
Sage arched her brows. "Why?" she asked, walking towards the door, her gaze fixed on Isabella, who had not spoken a word.
Katherine and Mirabella exchanged hesitant glances before returning their gazes to Sage, who had opened the door.
"He is a dragon with a black heart, Sage. You must understand that he is gradually becoming a mindless monster." Katherine spewed.
Sage paused, her eyes flashing with a bright, fierce flare. "What happened?
Mirabella sighed, lowering her head. "He almost killed me after you mysteriously vanished. He has not spoken since then."
Sage tightened her fists. Was it a good idea to see Stefan now? She returned her gaze to Katherine, her eyes widening with impatience. "Where is Darren?"
"He is out there looking for you. Word has been sent. They will all return soon." Katherine replied solemnly.
Sage nodded, looking at Mirabella, who seemed perplexed. She could tell there was something going on. Something worth hiding.
"Is there anything I should know?" Mirabella asked.
"Now." Sage said to Katherine, her voice as hard as a rock.
Katherine shot a brilliant blue glow straight into Mirabella’s chest. And before Isabella could react, Sage blasted a bright fiery red glow into her chest, sighing as they both collapsed. Unconscious.
She smirked, looking at Katherine, who was now approaching her with a subtle smile. "You are impatient."
"Well, now seems like the ideal time." Katherine responded, placing her arm over Sage’s shoulder.
Sage agreed with a smile. She did her best not to feel any guilt. She did not want to elicit any emotion that would lead Cyrus to suspect that something was wrong.
They both disappeared from view without a word, leaving behind a jumbled flicker of sly blue light and fiery glow.
.
Appearing on the fog-covered mountain, Sage quivered her lips in disgust as she remembered the large hand she fought.
That was one memory she wanted to forget.
Katherine took a step forward, her gaze drawn to the fog that slowly cleared.
She took a deep breath before closing her eyes and stretching her arms.
Sage observed intently.
A powerful, bright glow shot from Katherine’s hands and shot into the mist, instantly creating a sizable portal.
Katherine caught her breath and lost her balance. Thankfully, Sage rushed to her side and held her up before she fell.
She smiled. "Thank you."
Sage returned her smile, relieved that she was okay. She then looked at the portal, recognising the faint whispers that indicated that it was not just cursed spirits that were inside.
She let go of Katherine, who stood firm. And just as she was about to step into the portal with Katherine...
A loud thud rang out behind them. "Your Majesty!" A familiar voice emerged almost immediately.
Sage gasped and turned to see it was Arthur. "What are you doing here?!"
Arthur rushed up to her. The joy that she was alive filled his eyes.
Katherine was caught off guard by his appearance. She was well aware of the actions he took shortly after Sage vanished.
"I have been searching for you!" He smiled at Sage, who appeared surprised by his presence.
"You need to leave. Right now!"
Arthur was not expecting that. He was flying by. Checking the area once more in the hopes of finding her. The glow from the mountain drew his attention. And he really did not expect to find her.
He gazed at the portal. Confusion washed over his eyes. "What is going on here?"
Sage shook her head and looked at Arthur with pleading eyes. "Arthur, please leave."
