Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 253: Not even death can keep us apart
That night....
The grand imperial castle shimmered with radiance, its ballroom abuzz with mages and dragons dazzling in their finest attire, their joy and laughter filling the air.
The melody of classical music wafted through the hall, as couples twirled across the dance floor.
Cyrus stood on the balcony, a warm smile spreading across his face as he watched his parents, Silas and Aurora, dance together, their faces aglow with happiness.
River and Katherine were also in attendance, the latter having likely teleported him to the castle.
Meanwhile, Ashton and Stefan moved in perfect harmony on the dance floor, as did Florin and Roselle, their movements graceful and effortless.
The atmosphere was alive with magic and merriment, a night to remember.
"Your Majesty," Arthur called out from behind, his voice accompanied by a bow.
Cyrus turned to face him, his brow raised in inquiry. "Is Sage here?"
Arthur’s smile faltered for a moment before he replied, "Oh, no, Your Majesty. Your father wishes to speak with you."
Cyrus’s eyes widened in surprise, and he glanced back at the ballroom, where his parents were now looking up at him, their expressions unreadable.
A flush rose to his cheeks as he felt a surge of embarrassment. He turned and made his way to the yard, his parents following closely behind.
Once they were alone, he asked, his impatience barely contained, "Is something amiss?"
Aurora looked at him, her voice filled with concern. "Where is Sage?" she asked, her question echoing his own.
"She’ll be here soon. Some of the mages are already here, so I think she’s just running late." Cyrus muttered.
Silas nodded. "Is it comfortable for you and your wife to rule different realms?" he asked, his tone gentle.
Cyrus nodded, his expression wistful. "Yes, it’s just...I miss her, that’s all."
Silas smiled, nodded. "Well, that is understandable."
"It is." Aurora laughed, her eyes tearing up a bit as she held Cyrus’s arm. "We want you to know that with the mages’ return to their rightful home, their lifespan has been extended far beyond that of a normal human. So, if you’ve been worried about being immortal while Sage is not..."
"No, no, Mother, I’ve never been worried about that." Cyrus smiled. And indeed, he hadn’t, but the confirmation brought him joy nonetheless.
Just then, a familiar voice resonated in his mind. ’Cyrus?’ Sage’s mental call was like a beacon, drawing him to her instantly.
He disappeared from the yard, reappearing at the balcony of their chamber in an instant.
There, breathtaking in a crystal white dress that accentuated her porcelain skin, stood Sage. Her smile was radiant, her eyes sparkling like diamonds.
Cyrus’s eyes locked onto hers, his eyes filled with adoration. "Parrot," he whispered, his voice husky with emotion, as he cupped her face gently. His thumb caressed her chin, and he leaned in, his face inches from hers, their breaths mingling in anticipation of a loving embrace.
Sage laughed, pressing her lips against his and they kissed deeply and passionately, savoring each other, spilling the confession that they had missed each other dearly.
Slowly, they broke away, their breaths in sync and they smiled at each other, embracing each other.
Sage nestled her head in the warmth of Cyrus’s chest, feeling safe and loved.
"Why were you so late?" He asked, his voice gentle and soothing.
"I wanted to make a grand entrance." She laughed, burying her face in his chest. "More of a surprise entrance for you."
Cyrus chuckled. "I am surprised," he whispered, his arms tightening around her, holding her close as if never wanting to let her go again.
Sage smiled, clutching his cloak tightly. "You know, I thought that since my fire core was weak, I’d feel weak too, but I feel absolutely normal."
"That’s because your fire core isn’t weak anymore. In fact, it feels stronger than it ever has." Cyrus said, sounding surprised himself.
He held her wrist, his fingers pressing against her skin, and instantly, fiery veins appeared, pulsing with renewed vitality.
He nodded, his expression filled with awe. "Definitely stronger."
Sage was confused. "But how? I used all my energy to restore the realm."
"I don’t know either." Cyrus whispered, cupping her face once again.
Sage’s blush deepened as she looked into his hypnotic blue eyes, their intensity and warmth rendering her breathless. She raised her hand, her palm grazing his cheek, and he felt cool to the touch.
Her fingers traced his skin, and they stood there, lost in each other’s gaze. The world around them melted away, leaving only the two of them, suspended in a sea of silence. The music, laughter, and chatter from the ball faded into nothingness, leaving only the beating of their hearts.
Then, without warning, Cyrus spoke, his voice low and husky. "Come with me." He tugged her hand. And Sage, helpless to resist, followed him, her heart pounding in anticipation.
"Oh?" Sage was surprised as they reappeared in the east wing, standing before a wall adorned with paintings of her.
She smiled. She could see that he had painted new paintings of her. Calm and serene painting of her smiling and of her sleeping in her chamber back in Querencia.
Her eyes widened and she looked at him. "You came to see me?"
"Yes." Cyrus nodded. "But only at night."
Sage couldn’t believe him. "Why didn’t you wake me up? And why couldn’t I feel your presence?" She pursed her lips.
"Your exhaustion makes you insensitive to my presence," Cyrus said, his hand gently resting on her belly. "You’re pushing yourself too hard, and our little one is feeling it too."
His lips brushed against hers, his whisper filled with concern. "You need to pace yourself, my love."
Sage’s face flushed, and she returned his kiss, her voice light. "You’re no exception, either."
Cyrus’s soft chuckle filled the air as he drew her into a gentle embrace, his eyes closed in a silent promise. Sage’s arms wrapped around him with equal longing, their love heavy and raw.
"Nothing, not even death, can keep us apart," she whispered.
He smiled, his eyes still closed, his lips repeating, "Nothing, not even death, can keep us apart."
