Marrying My Father's Enemy-Chapter 105: The Winter’s Event
Chapter 105: The Winter’s Event
Chapter 105: The Winter’s Event
Students entered the grand hall of the university, buzzing with chatter.
Alumni and sponsors filled the space, each more extravagant than the last.
The Winter Event had always been a display of power and influence, and tonight was no different.
The tables were adorned with beautiful silver tablecloths, glittering under the chandeliers.
But for Eira, the event felt heavy.
She adjusted the straps of her navy-blue gown as she entered the hall alone.
Callian had been tied up in meetings and insisted she could handle the evening.
She didn’t mind. If anything, she was used to standing alone.
Across the room, Vanesa and Mita stood near the entrance; they immediately caught Eira’s arrival.
Vanesa’s lips curled into a smirk.
"She came alone," Mita said. "Perfect. This will be easier than I thought."
Vanesa nodded but hesitated, her smirk faded slightly. "Are you sure about this? What if it backfires?"
Mita turned to her. "Don’t start getting cold feet now, Vanesa. She needs to know her place."
Vanesa nodded again, her hands fiddling with the edge of her clutch.
Together, they stepped toward the center of the room.
Eira stood near the refreshments table, pouring herself a glass of water when she heard a voice behind her.
"Eira," Mita called, her tone faux-sweet.
Eira turned slowly, her face calm. "Mita. Vanesa. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Vanesa’s eyes darted away, but Mita stepped closer, her smile sharper now. "We were just admiring your courage. Showing up here alone? Bold move."
Eira didn’t flinch. "I didn’t realize it required courage to attend a university event."
Mita chuckled. "It does when you’ve built a reputation like yours. Manipulative. Untrustworthy. Dangerous."
Eira raised an eyebrow. "If I’m so dangerous, maybe you should stay out of my way."
A few heads turned in their direction; whispers began to ripple through the crowd.
Vanesa shifted uncomfortably, her eyes dropped to the floor.
"You think you’re untouchable because Callian loves you. But you’re just a pretty pawn in a game you don’t understand."
Eira stepped forward, closing the distance between them. Her voice was calm, but her words were ice.
"And you think you matter? You’re just a bitter ex with too much time on her hands. Maybe focus on your own miserable life instead of mine. And plus, your statements are getting repeated. It’s kinda boring to listen to you."
Mita’s smirk vanished, replaced by genuine anger.
Before Mita could retort, Vanesa stepped forward. "That’s enough, Mita. Let’s go."
But Mita wasn’t done.
She raised her voice, loud enough for the entire hall to hear. "Eira, why don’t you tell everyone here how you really got into this family? How you wormed your way into Callian’s life, into Henry’s good graces?"
The room went silent. All eyes were on them now.
Eira didn’t flinch. "You’re right. Let’s tell them everything. Starting with how you’ve been working with Mita to ruin me. Or maybe we should talk about your dear father’s skeletons. Shall we?"
Vanesa’s face paled, and she grabbed Mita’s arm. "Enough. Let’s go."
But before they could leave, a commanding voice cut through the murmurs.
"Vanesa. Mita."
Henry Blackwood stepped into the scene; his presence silenced the room further.
His gaze went up and down over the two women.
"What is the meaning of this?" he demanded.
Mita opened her mouth to speak, but Vanesa beat her to it. "Father, we were just—"
"Embarrassing this family?" Henry interrupted, his gaze shifted between them. "Is that what you were just doing?"
Vanesa stammered. "No, I—"
"Enough," Henry snapped, his voice stopped her excuses.
He turned to Eira. "Are you alright?"
Eira nodded, her face neutral. "I’m fine."
Henry’s jaw tightened, but he nodded. "Good."
He turned back to Vanesa and Mita, his fury barely contained. "I’ve tolerated your antics for too long. But this? Publicly humiliating your family? Trying to tarnish Eira’s name? It’s unacceptable."
Mita scoffed, regaining her composure. "Oh, please. She’s the one tarnishing your family’s name, not us."
Henry’s glare was enough to make her falter. "Leave. Now. Before I make sure you never step foot in another event under this family’s name again."
Mita hesitated, then turned on her heel and stormed out of the room.
Vanesa lingered, her eyes wide with panic. "Father, I—"
"Save it," Henry said coldly. "You’re no daughter of mine if you think this behavior is acceptable."
Vanesa’s voice trembled. "I was trying to protect us. To protect you."
"Protect me?" Henry’s voice rose. "By making a fool of yourself? By aligning with someone like Mita Anand? You’ve done nothing but disgrace this family."
Vanesa’s tears welled in her eyes. "I’m sorry. Please, just listen to me—"
Henry raised his hand, and for a brief second, the sound of the slap echoed in the hall.
The crowd gasped, but Henry’s expression didn’t change.
"You have until the end of the week to pack your things and leave the mansion," Henry said, his voice was like steel. "I don’t want to see your face again."
Vanesa stared at him, her cheek red, and her tears fell down. "Father, please—"
"Go," Henry said.
Eira, who had been watching silently, turned and left the hall.
She didn’t care about the drama behind her. It wasn’t her battle to fight, but for her benefit only.
As she stepped into the cold night air, she took a deep breath, letting the tension leave her shoulders.
The sound of Vanesa’s cries and Henry’s fury faded into the background.
Back in the hall, Vanesa collapsed into a chair, sobbing uncontrollably.
Henry watched her for a moment, before turning and walking away.
As he left, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and glanced at the screen.
Mike had sent him a message. "I have more on Konrad. Call me."
Henry’s eyes narrowed as he slipped the phone back into his pocket.
The game was far from over.
"My daughter will thank me for getting rid of the little dust around her."
