Chapter 148: Henry’s caught in action

"I found your diary, Eira..."

"It’s impossible...Marion hid it, only she would have known where it was..."

Henry’s words about the diary reached Konrad’s ears: "I found your diary."

Konrad’s fingers twitched at his sides.

His breath came out in sharp puffs, the earlier confrontation was turning into something darker as his mind turned over Henry’s words.

Eira was pacing, her face pale and filled with fury as she processed what Henry had said.

Her stomach churned with disbelief, and her voice finally broke through the silence.

"Where is it?" she demanded, her eyes locked on Henry.

Henry frowned, confused. "What are you talking about?"

Eira took a step forward, "My diary, Henry. The one you said you found. Where is it?"

Henry stiffened, his eyed darting to the crowd that had gathered around them. "Eira, I don’t—"

"Don’t lie to me!" she shouted, trembling from anger. "You said you found it. The only person who had that diary was Marion. She’s dead. So how did you get it?"

Henry raised his hands defensively, he looked strained. "I don’t know what you’re talking about, Eira. I never had your diary."

"Don’t do this," Eira said in an almost breaking voice. "Don’t stand here and lie to my face. Just tell me the truth for once!"

"I am telling the truth!" Henry barked.

Henry’s heart pounded so fast, he was slipping. "I didn’t take anything. I don’t even know what you’re talking about."

"Then how did you know what was in it?" she hissed, her fists clenched at her sides.

"You described things only someone who read it would know. Did you take it from her? Did you have something to do with her death?"

Konrad’s breath hitched, and his blood ran cold.

He looked at Henry, his eyes glared so suspiciously that he turned to an owl. "What did she just say?"

Eira turned, startled, realising that Konrad hadn’t left. He took a step closer.

"Henry," Konrad said slowly. "What did you do to Marion?"

Henry turned to Konrad, his mouth tightened into a hard line. "I didn’t do anything to Marion," he said firmly.

Konrad let out a bitter laugh, his hand moved to the discarded gun on the ground.

He picked it up, inspecting it almost casually, but the wildness in his eyes exposed his calm tone.

"Don’t lie to me, Henry," Konrad mumbled coldly.

"You’ve been lying to everyone your whole life. But Marion? If you hurt her—"

"Stop this," Henry interrupted, stepping toward Konrad. "I had nothing to do with her death!"

"Then explain the diary!" Konrad roared, the gun now aimed loosely in Henry’s direction.

"Put that down!" Eira shouted, stepping between them.

Konrad’s eyed snapped to her. "Eira, don’t defend him! Don’t you see? He’s been playing us all. He’s hiding something!"

The footsteps interrupted the tense standoff.

Elias stepped out from the shadows of the shop’s entrance, he seemed pale and drawn.

"Enough," Elias yelled.

Henry’s eyes widened in shock as he saw him.

"Raiver?" he said, not being able to believe it that his oldest son was here. "What are you doing here?"

Elias stared at Henry, his jaw tightening. "What does it look like? I’m here to support Eira."

Henry took a step closer, deepening his confusion. "You... you changed your name. You’ve been hiding from me all this time?"

Elias let out a bitter laugh. "Of course I changed my name. It’s hard to walk around with the name of a man who ruined your life. Who pretended I didn’t exist."

Henry’s mouth opened, but no words came out.

"The Truth Hurts..."

"You’re my son," Henry said finally after a long pause.

Elias’s eyes darkened, his anger looked barely contained.

"Don’t say that," he snapped. "You don’t get to say that. You abandoned me, Henry. You abandoned my mother. You made us feel like we were nothing, just so you could live your perfect life."

Henry staggered back slightly, the weight of Elias’s words hitting him like a punch. "I didn’t... I didn’t know. Your mother—she never—"

"Don’t lie," Elias cut him off. "You knew. You always knew."

Eira’s eyes travelled between the two men, her heart pounded faster... "Wait..."

Elias turned to her, softening slightly. "It’s true," he admitted. "But it’s not something I’ve ever been proud of."

"Hah! I see!" Konrad’s laugh broke through the tension, loud and bitter.

He swung the gun toward Henry again. "Another skeleton in your closet, huh, Henry? How many more secrets are you hiding?"

Henry turned back to Konrad, his voice trembling. "Don’t do this. I didn’t hurt Marion. I didn’t take the diary. I—"

"You don’t get to play the victim here!" Konrad shouted. "You’re just like me, Henry. A coward. A liar. Someone who sacrifices everyone else to save himself."

"That’s not true," Henry said desperately.

"It is!" Konrad roared, his grip tightening on the gun. "And I’m done letting people like you get away with it."

"Konrad, stop. You don’t have to do this. Put the gun down."

Konrad’s eyes flicked to Eira. "Why do you care, Eira? He’s not worth saving. You know that."

"Maybe he’s not," Eira said softly. "But I am. Don’t do this, Konrad. Don’t make things worse."

For a moment, the tension seemed to ease.

Konrad’s hand wavered, the gun lowering slightly.

But then he turned to Henry again...

"You’re the reason she’s dead, aren’t you?" Konrad muttered. "My mother...You couldn’t control her, so you got rid of her."

"That’s not true!" Henry shouted back. "I liked Marion! I would never hurt her." ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Before Konrad could respond, Elias stepped between them. "Enough! Put the gun down, Konrad."

Konrad hesitated.

But there was nothing else left for him to worry about...

Eira’s father killed his mother, then Eira took everything from him, then her father was the one who did this.

None of this mattered to him, but he couldn’t accept that they all would get to live happily ever, and he would end up in jail.

"It all started with you, so you should be the one to die..."
