Marrying My Father's Enemy-Chapter 151: The Baby
Chapter 151: The Baby
151: The Baby...
The doctor’s voice carried softly through the room, but the way of his words struck with unbearable force.
"The baby’s life depends on Eira’s condition. Right now, all we can do is wait. She’s fighting, but it’s not a balance."
The room fell silent, as if the air had been sucked out entirely.
Callian felt his chest tighten, suffocating his whole body.
Elias was beside him, tense.
"Fighting," Callian murmured, his voice sounded empty, as if the word itself could summon strength for her.
"She’s always fighting."
"She has to," Elias replied quietly, though his tone was strained. "For herself. For the baby."
The doctor lingered only a moment longer before retreating, leaving them suspended in a haze of grief and uncertainty.
Callian’s knees buckled, and he sank into a chair, his head in his hands.
The image of Eira’s pale face, her lifeless body on the stretcher, haunted him.
Her blood on his hands. The way her voice had faded when she whispered his name.
He gripped his hair tightly. "I should have done more... I should have stopped him sooner."
Elias crouched in front of him... "Stop blaming yourself. None of this is your fault. You did everything you could."
Callian shook his head, his tears started falling down freely. "It’s never enough... not for her."
Before Elias could respond, the door to the waiting room opened, and Leina swept in.
"Callian," she edged with urgency. "I came as soon as I heard."
Callian didn’t lift his head. He remained hunched, his face was hidden in his hands.
Leina stopped in front of him, her hands clasped tightly.
"You can’t shut me out right now. Eira’s child... it’s my blood. My grandchild. I have every right to be here."
At that, Callian’s head shot up, red eyes were swollen, angry and like a destroying lava, burnt with fury. "You have no right," he hissed.
Leina stiffened, her face twitched. "How dare you—"
"You don’t get to play the concerned mother now," he snapped, standing abruptly.
His shoulders trembled, but his madness was unrelenting.
"Where were you when I needed you? When I was falling apart? You chose your world over me, Leina. So don’t pretend you care now."
Leina flinched but quickly regained her composure.
"This isn’t about us. It’s about the child. My grandchild. I deserve to be involved, Callian. That baby is part of this family."
Callian took a step closer, glared at her.
"That child is Eira’s, and mine. Not yours. You don’t get to stake a claim just because it’s convenient for you."
Before Leina could argue, Elias stepped between them, his hand on Callian’s chest to keep him from closing the distance further.
"This isn’t the time," Elias controlled. "We’re all here for the same reason. Let’s focus on that."
Leina’s lips pressed into a thin line, but she didn’t respond.
She moved to the corner of the room, her shoulders stiff as she crossed her arms.
Vanesa entered quietly, her pale face was exhausted.
She carried herself with an air of restraint, though her worry was clear in her eyes. freewebnøvel_com
Rylan followed her, his usually bright smile subdued. Sana was close behind, her hands clutched tightly together, her brow furrowed in concern.
"How is she?" Vanesa asked softly, looking at Callian.
Elias answered when Callian didn’t. "The doctors are doing everything they can. But it’s..." He hesitated, glancing at Callian before continuing. "It’s not looking good."
Rylan placed a comforting hand on Sana’s shoulder. "She’ll pull through. She has to."
"She’s strong," Sana whispered, though her voice vanished.
Vanesa moved closer to Callian, gentler.
"You should eat something. Or at least drink water. You’ll collapse if you keep this up."
Callian didn’t respond.
He stared blankly ahead, his body seemed rigid, as if moving would shatter him completely.
"Callian," Vanesa tried again, her voice softening. "Eira would want you to take care of yourself."
At her words, Callian’s composure cracked.
He turned to her, his eyes filled with anguish.
"And what if she doesn’t make it?" he demanded as he started breaking one more time.
"What if she never wakes up? What am I supposed to do then?"
Vanesa’s breath hitched, and her hand covered her mouth as tears welled in her eyes.
She reached for him, but he stepped back, shaking his head.
"I can’t lose her....I can’t."
William, who had been standing quietly in the corner, finally spoke as well.
He lost his fight, and rights to Eira a long time ago, but seeing his love rival like this, it wasn’t something to compete about.
"She’s fighting for you, Callian. Don’t give up on her."
Callian let out a shaky breath, his shoulders slumped as if the world had finally crushed him.
"I’ve already failed her... over and over again."
"You haven’t," Elias replied calmly, stepping beside him.
"You’ve been there for her every step of the way. She knows how much you love her, Callian. Don’t lose sight of that."
The door to the waiting room opened again, and a nurse stepped in.
Everyone froze once again.
"We’ve moved her to the ICU," the nurse stated in a professional but kind way. "She’s still critical. You can see her, but only one at a time."
Callian surged forward immediately, but Elias caught his arm. "Wait," Elias said gently. "Take a moment. You don’t want her to see you like this."
Callian hesitated, his body trembled with the effort to stay upright.
He nodded reluctantly, stepping back as Elias guided him to a chair.
"I’ll go first," Elias said calmly.
He left the room, the door swinging shut behind him.
Callian stared at it, overthinking with images of Eira, pale and broken, fighting for her life.
His hands clenched into fists as he fought back the tears threatening to eat him alive.
Vanesa sat beside him.
"She needs you, Callian. She needs you to be strong."
"I don’t know how," he admitted, his voice raw.
"You do," she said, her hand resting on his arm. "You always have."
The room fell silent once more.
Leina stood in the corner, while Rylan and Sana exchanged worried glances.
William paced near the window, his fists clenched at his sides as well.
As the minutes dragged on, Callian’s heart ached with every passing second.
The thought of Eira lying in that bed, fighting for her life and the life of their child, was unbearable.
When the door finally opened and Elias returned, his face was like an abandoned ghost.
"She’s barely-," he paused quietly. "Go to her...to say your goodbye..."
