Marvel's master of cosmic magic-Chapter 839
"That’s... a lot of magic."
The ice mage—Cis—had been preparing to press the attack when he saw it.
Dozens of dense water spheres filled the sky above the plaza, each one humming with controlled power. They weren’t wild bursts. They were stable. Focused.
His gaze snapped to Noelle.
"The royal brat..."
The girl he’d dismissed as dead weight had just shifted the balance.
If this continued, the mission would collapse.
He retreated, falling into formation beside his three subordinates.
"Ice-Fog Composite Magic: Infinite Ice Prison."
The fog thickened, then sharpened.
Ice spears began forming within the mist, launching from every angle at once. Not just toward Asta and the others—but toward the villagers behind them.
Noelle gasped and threw up water barriers. The village chief summoned crude magical weapons to deflect incoming shards. Asta, Magna, and Lumi pulled back to reinforce the defensive line.
The ice spears were stronger now—denser, faster, endless. The composite spell fed itself through the fog barrier.
Even working together, they were barely holding.
Cis smiled thinly. "Let’s see how long you last."
He could feel Magna’s mana thinning. Once one defender faltered, the entire line would collapse.
Lumi’s fingers tightened around his grimoire.
He was about to drop the act. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Then Rowan’s voice reached Noelle again, steady and certain.
"You’re not reaching your limit. You’re just afraid of it. Trust yourself."
Something shifted in her.
Her grimoire flipped pages rapidly.
"Water Creation Magic: Sea Dragon’s Nest!"
A massive surge of water expanded outward, forming a sweeping half-dome that shielded the villagers completely. The ice spears shattered against it in waves.
At the same moment, Rowan lifted his hand.
A spatial gate opened in front of Asta.
The exit shimmered directly behind Cis.
Asta didn’t hesitate. With the Demon-Slayer and Demon-Destroyer in hand, he burst through the portal and swung.
The four attackers were sent flying like scattered pins.
"Flame Restraint Magic: Crimson Binding Array!"
Magna, running on fumes, conjured blazing ropes that wrapped tightly around them.
He bent over, panting. "Who are you people? Why attack Sosshi Village?"
Cis felt the sealing effect suppressing his mana.
He exhaled.
Then he smiled.
"I refuse."
"Ice Magic: Frosted Burial."
Ice flowers erupted from within all four of them.
In seconds, their bodies disintegrated into frozen powder.
Magna stared. "They... killed themselves?"
Lumi’s expression darkened. "They had enchanted tools embedded inside them. Triggered even without access to mana."
The design was familiar to him.
Too familiar.
Rowan stepped forward calmly and opened his grimoire.
"Restore."
A white magic circle flared where the frozen remains lay.
Time rewound.
Ice dust reformed into flesh. Breath returned to lungs.
All four men gasped back to life.
The plaza fell silent.
Even Lumi’s composure cracked.
Cis stared at his own hands.
"That’s not possible..."
Rowan gave a casual shrug. "If the soul hasn’t fully dispersed, it’s reversible."
He placed a hand on Cis’s head.
There was a mental lock—complex, deliberate. Someone had sealed his memories against interrogation.
Rowan bypassed it without effort.
The information flowed in.
When he withdrew his hand, he turned slightly. "Secre. Seal the internal trigger."
She moved immediately, binding the hidden suicide mechanism.
Rowan did not share everything aloud.
The attackers weren’t from the Diamond Kingdom.
They belonged to an organization calling itself the Eye of the Midnight Sun.
Their goal was simple on the surface: destroy the Clover Kingdom and build something new from its ashes.
Their leader called himself Licht.
White hair. Charismatic. Powerful.
The mission here had been to retrieve a magic stone.
With all stones gathered, they believed they could defeat the Wizard King and the Magic Knights.
Rowan exchanged a glance with Lumi later, out of earshot.
"This feels like the Word Devil’s contingency," Rowan said quietly. "Collecting magic stones isn’t about revolution. It’s about breaking a seal."
Lumi’s jaw tightened at the name Licht.
Five centuries ago, he had killed his closest friend to prevent him from being fully possessed.
But before dying, Licht had cast a reincarnation spell unique to the elves.
"If the spell worked..." Lumi murmured, troubled. "The resurrected elves would believe humans slaughtered them."
"And revenge would follow," Rowan finished. "Whether this leader is truly Licht—or someone using his name—either way, the stones are key."
Lumi considered rushing their base immediately.
Then he shook his head.
"My mana hasn’t fully recovered. Two more weeks."
Rowan nodded. "As you wish."
After settling matters in the village and sharing a meal with Nokia’s family, Rowan departed with a recovered magic stone Secre had located.
That night, he studied it.
The stone pulsed with dense mana—and something deeper.
Fundamental laws woven into crystal.
Alone, it was inert.
Together, properly activated, they could rewrite reality within certain bounds.
Rowan wasn’t interested in the raw power.
He was interested in the structure.
Understand the framework, and the world could be replicated.
He closed the stone thoughtfully.
Two weeks, then.
The next morning, he summoned every Black Bull—including Captain Yami.
Yami looked half-asleep, cigarette hanging from his mouth. "This better be worth waking up for."
Rowan smiled.
"I’ve developed a method to rapidly increase your strength."
Magna shot to his feet. Asta followed instantly. Luck grinned.
Yami narrowed his eyes. "Explain."
Rowan raised his hand.
A strange energy coiled around his fingers—neither pure mana nor something entirely foreign.
"I call it Dragon Force."
The energy shimmered like a heartbeat wrapped in scales.
"If I embed a compatible strain into your bodies, it will fuse with your existing attribute. Your spells will grow sharper. Stronger. Resistant to similar elements. You’ll recover faster. Your physical bodies will harden."
He paused.
"And if mastered... you’ll be able to transform."
The room went very quiet.
Rowan’s eyes gleamed.
"Into dragons."
