Chapter 143: Lost in crowd, found in truth

Shaan’s breath grew tighter, and pain spread through every muscle in his legs as he kept chasing Sebastian through the busy crowd in the town square. Even so, his effort finally paid off because he now ran close enough and almost reached Sebastian.

’Come on, Shaan. You can do it.’

Shaan stretched out his arms, trying to reach Sebastian’s shoulder in the crowd. It was only a little further... a little further, and he would succeed in tapping Sebastian on the shoulder.

’Great, now this is my chance to—’

However, things did not go as smoothly as expected. People bumped into him again and again, each hit growing harder as the crowd pressed in. Shaan pushed forward and tried to brace himself against the collisions, but his body couldn’t handle the impact anymore, and he stumbled to the ground.

"Thud!"

"Ow—damn it."

Shaan crashed onto the pavement as people hurried past him. The sudden fall startled everyone nearby, and they quickly rushed over to help.

"Hey, kid. Are you okay?" a man in a brown jacket reached out his hand. "Here. Let me help you up."

"Yes, thank you, Sir." Shaan took his outstretched hand and looked around. "I’m fine. Everything is fine."

Sadly, when Shaan looked around, Sebastian was nowhere to be seen, nor was the black hat that characterized the man. Damn. He had been pretty optimistic that he would be able to return this pocketbook to Sebastian, but unfortunately, his guess missed the mark.

’I should get out of here before more people see me.’

"Where is Shaan?" The courier blinked and scanned the area. "Where did he even go...?"

Mr. Courier’s eyes suddenly detected someone moving quickly towards him. Without waiting long, he immediately activated his ’long-distance vision’ mode to see who the figure really was.

"Shaan, where have you been?" A look of curiosity appeared on his face. What exactly happened?"

"W-wait a second." Shaan took a deep breath and tried to steady his racing breaths. "Okay... that’s a bit better."

"I don’t understand your actions at all, Shaan." Mr courier shook his head. "I don’t understand you at all, Shaan." Mr. Courier shook his head. "Why did you run around like a thief?"

"I was trying to catch someone," Shaan said as he slowly took a pocketbook from his pocket. "I just wanted to return this to him. But I lost him in the crowd."

"I see..." Mr. Courier stroked his chin, listening to Shaan’s words. "Keep the pocketbook. He’ll definitely come looking for it."

"Yeah, I think the same." Shaan put the pocketbook back in his pocket and followed Mr Courier back to Dr. Marshal’s house.

After walking through the town square, they finally arrived at Dr. Marshal’s house. The yard was much tidier than before. The tools that had been scattered around had been put back in their storage boxes, and the yard, which had been littered with dry leaves, was now clean.

"Good. I knew those two women would handle their tasks well," Mr. Courier said with a satisfied smile. "We should go inside. They’re probably waiting for us."

’Knock! Knock! Knock!’

"Uhm... wait a minute."

The sound of footsteps approached the door, and slowly it opened. Chelsie stood there and stared at them with a confused expression.

"Shaan? Mr. Courier? B-but, aren’t you guys just supposed to deliver these two homunculus?" Chelsie scratched her head gently. "Why did you bring it back here?"

"Ah, about that. I’ll explain everything," Shaan said while rubbing his hands together. "But let us inside first."

"O-okay, I’m sorry."

Once Shaan stepped into the house, he sat on one of the sofa chairs and began telling them everything that had happened. Nalira and Chelsie sat across from him, listening intently as Shaan explained every detail.

"Uhm... but, I feel sorry for that old lady," said Chelsie sympathetically. "There’s no way she could move all her belongings by herself, especially since she lives alone."

".... It’s a good thing you took the initiative to help her."

"Actually, Mr. Courier was the one who first offered to help," Shaan said as he glanced at Mr. Courier beside him. "I just followed Mr. Courier’s idea. Thank you, Mr. Courier."

"Shaan, you don’t need to thank me," Mr. Courier replied with a bright smile. "Dr. Marshal programmed me to help anyone who needs assistance. Speaking of which—where is Dr. Marshal? Has he returned?"

Nalira shook her head. "Not yet. Since the officers came to pick him up, he hasn’t returned at all."

’I’m just curious... what exactly did Dr. Marshal and the other faction leaders discuss?’

"This meeting covers a major issue, and it will definitely take a long time to—"

Before Mr. Courier finished his sentence, someone pushed the door open from behind them. Everyone in the room instantly fell silent and turned toward the entrance.

"Sir. Marshal." Mr Courier immediately stood up from his seat and walked toward him. "How did the meeting go?"

"Good. Everything went smoothly, but the meeting isn’t over yet, and there may be a follow-up meeting to discuss the Lunaris Revia event in more detail."

"Dr. Marshal, I’m curious... what actually happens during Lunaris Revia?" Shaan asked, unable to hide his interest. "Mr. Courier didn’t explain every detail about it."

"That’s a pretty good question, Shaan." Dr. Marshal nodded his head enthusiastically. "You’ve probably already heard that during Lunaris Revia, every Daemonist gains a temporary boost in power. Because of that, many Daemonists leave Twilight Sanctum during the event."

"Yes... Mr Courier did mention that before."

"So, going outside Twilight Sanctum during the event is actually an official activity arranged by the leaders of Twilight Sanctum. They created it for all Daemonists—especially beginners like you—so you can grow stronger much faster," Dr. Marshal explained. "The activity is called..." He paused again and frowned. "Ah, damn it. I can’t remember the name of the activity—"

"Daemon Hunt-Rite," interrupted Mr courier, cutting off Dr. Marshal. "This activity is very important and will definitely be very useful for you."

"Ah, yes. That’s right. Daemon Hunt-Rite," Dr. Marshal tapped his forehead. "Oh my god, I completely forgot about that. Thank you for reminding me, Courier 020."

"I’m glad to help you, Sir. Marshal."

"Uhm... but if Dr. Marshal said that this activity will be held outside the twilight sanctum." A look of confusion still appeared on Chelsie’s face. "Where will this activity be held?"
