Master of Kaidan-Chapter 489: The Land of Dragon’s Rise
Chapter 489: Chapter 489: The Land of Dragon’s Rise
Risking a sting to the eyes, Feng Xue, by way of the Hao Tian permission, obtained King Zhou’s daily schedule records from the Nine-tailed Fox and looked at the report before her, suddenly feeling that it was more irritating to the eyes than she had imagined.
"Damn, no wonder there’s both the Wine Pool and Meat Forest and beauties everywhere... It turns out to be a fully immersive virtual reality! King Zhou has become a complete shut-in!"
Looking at the report, Feng Xue had a feeling of "so this is possible," even though logically, having the King engrossed in online entertainment seemed more reliable than indulging in women (at least it’s safer for the kidneys). But still, it was strange enough. And if you add the setting that "demon energy is the Mutated electromagnetic waves emitted by the demonization codes," it gets even weirder.
However, since it didn’t affect Feng Xue’s plans, she didn’t issue any extra commands to the Nine-tailed Fox. And seeing that just having Entertainment intelligent systems wasn’t enough, she also transmitted a Music Ai (Jade Pipa Spirit) and a maintenance AI (Nine-headed Pheasant Spirit, also known as the Nine-headed Beast, Nine-headed bug, ha), to further enhance the construction of the virtual world.
After finishing all these tasks, Feng Xue started traveling through the Primordial lands in the name of Hao Tian, focusing on inspecting the Underworld system. After confirming the Book of Life and Death registration terminal was still there, she immediately headed to the Eastern Continent. Taking advantage of the rebellion started by Duke of the East, she gathered people while initiating the construction of Divine Enthronement Platform based on the blueprints brought down from the Heavenly Court.
To be exact, it was a youth low-match mass-production type of Sealing God Platform which Feng Xue named aptly...
...Two months later...
Near the original Huaguo Mountain scenic area, due to the aftermath of the war, the local foot traffic had drastically decreased. The locals, who previously thrived on tourism revenue, suddenly lost their income sources, and the soaring prices of food due to the war further devastated the residents.
Originally to preserve the natural scenery the mountain roads were deliberately left un-repaired. A group of people, lugging their families along, were moving on these roads. Their clothes, though not from luxury brands, could at least be described as high-quality, but now these garments were covered with dirt and scars, clearly having seen a lot of wear and tear.
"Son, how much longer do we have to walk?"
In the crowd, a slightly overweight middle-aged man looked at a young man beside him who wiped the dust-mixed sweat from his face and took a deep breath, saying,
"Not much longer, not much longer, the coordinates I received are nearby."
"I think you’ve been duped! With all this chaos, the network has been down for almost two months, no shuttles anywhere, how could there be any refuge?"
A younger boy muttered softly, but the young man turned back and glanced at the people accompanying him,
"I got duped alone, and these people we met along the way got duped too? We have very little food left at home, if we don’t take a chance, what will we do when it runs out?"
"I have a gun; I can hunt in the mountains!" the young boy pressed his hand against the small pistol at his waist, and the young man immediately gave him a look—
"You better save some energy, the electricity substations nearby have been cut off by Duke of the East; how many shots can your little toy fire? It’s better to save it for self-defense instead of hunting wild animals."
Though he said this, the young man’s heart was actually pounding; if it hadn’t been a desperate situation, he wouldn’t have readily believed a message broadcasted over a randomly accessible wireless network frequency.
But after all, at this point, both Duke of the East and Great Shang had started an electronic war. Being able to use the Infinite network frequency this time, had to be top-notch technology.
As for whether it was a trap by Duke of the East or Great Shang...
Joking, what for?
Cannon fodder? freewebnoveℓ.com
Please, these days, drones are used for cannon fodder; living people are at most sent to screw bolts.
They couldn’t wait!
At least there was food to eat, right?
Given the war situation, it probably wouldn’t be over in a year or two. No matter how much food the families stored, it certainly wouldn’t last until the end!
The excuse the young man had used to convince his family was that he believed people he encountered on the road had the same thoughts.
While wondering whether he would be sent to screw bolts or transport ammo, suddenly, he heard someone yell at the top of their lungs:
"We’re here! I see it! There really is a village!"
"A village?" The young man was slightly startled. Although he had learned through some uncertain network communications that there was a refuge here, he had imagined it as some sort of underground bunker or remote mountain hideaway, but a village...
"Can villages still exist in these times?"
Clearly, he wasn’t the only one thinking this. Upon hearing the shout, the group showed two kinds of reactions: some ran forward with all their might while others stayed quietly in the back, seemingly waiting to see what would happen.
It wasn’t that those running forward were mindless, but because not everyone’s food supplies were sufficient; in fact, if there weren’t so few of them, safety along the way would have been questionable.
A dozen or so people rushed into the rather large, modernized village, which appeared to lack swordsmen by the hundreds or any sort of Mecha army. The observers gradually relaxed, walking towards this fenceless village.
"There are no fields, no animal pens, does this village have hydroponics?" The young man grabbed his restless younger brother, walking slowly with their parents, trying to analyze the situation with the knowledge he had gained from the internet. But soon, they stopped moving as they noticed that the group that first led the way was now gathered together standing in a group.
"Could it be an ambush?"
The young man immediately pulled out a handgun from his younger brother’s waist, but soon, a man dressed as a civilian came pushing a steaming pot, saying as he walked:
"Those who are hungry, come get some porridge; those who aren’t very hungry, go to the other side for a check-up, followed by a distribution of food and accommodations!"
"What’s going on?" The young man watched as several people went to scoop porridge, his expression slightly stiff, while his father gently patted the back of his head, saying:
"Looks like we’re in luck, seems like a legitimate relief area. Just not sure what they’ll want us to do later, but it’s better than starving."
With that, he followed the directions of the man pushing the porridge pot towards the medical examination line, which had few people.
Seeing this, the young man immediately handed his gun to his brother and followed, only for his father to suddenly snap:
"Go back!"
"No!"
Father and son stared intently at each other, as the man leading them sighed helplessly and said:
"We’re not into human trafficking or looking for any trouble, just checking for contagious diseases, that’s all. We have a local network here, with live feeds from the hospital’s examination area on the cameras, you can log on and see for yourselves!"
