Chapter 554: Chapter 554 The Hatred Rises

The live stream started, and without another word, Feng Xue, after making minor adjustment to his appearance, rewarded himself with ten of the biggest jackpot Tools. Not until a large audience flooded into his room did he casually shake an envelope in his hand and say,

"Hello everyone, you might not recognize me, but that’s fine. My name is Alfred Paradox, I live in Black Swan City. The main reason I’m here is that I’m simply too rich and too well-known there, so I wanted to find a place where no one knows me, to play ’a pig to eat a tiger’..."

As soon as his words finished, the entire live streaming room exploded in commotion, and quite a few audience members started cursing. After all, what’s with this outsider coming to Isgray City to beg for money, and pretending to be something you aren’t? You’re rich and still come to live stream?

In the face of those curses, Alfred’s face remained indifferent as he waved the envelope in his hand nonchalantly,

"The reason I chose Isgray City is simply that I randomly sent out hundreds of resumes online, and the first one that got back to me happened to be a business from Isgray City. And when I looked at the address, it seemed to be in an unlawful zone. I thought it’d be fun, so I came over to play."

[Streamer, don’t get too cocky, you may be rich in other cities but that’s not necessarily the case here. Every year, plenty of second-generation rich fools like you die in these lawless zones.]

This bullet comment was extremely arrogant and even used VIP font, immediately capturing the attention of the audience. Alfred, however, just spread his hands, appearing quite unperturbed:

"You poor ghosts will never understand the Joy of the rich. If I dared to come here, of course I have my trump cards. Do you know what drone I’m using for streaming? It’s a modified exterminator! See this pocket watch? It’s a personal deflection field shield! And do you know what material this outfit is?"

Alfred was displaying the quintessential smugness of a wealth-flaunting streamer, which instantly drew the ire of the viewers.

After all, in this World, most of those who watch live streams are from a slightly well-off class that can’t afford much higher expenditures. Compared to those who struggle just to stay alive, they’re the ones with the most negative emotions, the most eager to vent, and the strongest feelings against the rich. Alfred’s opening speech firmly grasped the attention of the first wave of viewers.

Clearly, they all wanted to see how this rich second-generation was going to bring about his own demise.

Feng Xue was well aware of this and casually controlled a minor account to respond to the VIP-font challenger with his brainwave sensing terminal as he moved toward his destination. As he walked, he said,

"You poor ghosts will never understand, the difference between people is even greater than between humans and dogs. Why do you have to be so subservient at work? Because getting fired could mean starving to death for you, but not for me. So, just like the title of my live stream, I’ve come to Isgray City this time to reform the workplace!"

As the bullet comments became a ruckus, Alfred took the elevator to his destination—

Hell for workers.

"No. 1774 private factory district, 33 Peace Road... Hmm, it’s a bit short, but the decor is not bad. It has a kind of retro beauty."

Alfred looked at the office building in front of him with a tone full of Taunt, again triggering a wave of swearing. Though many viewers in the live stream also thought this lawless zone looked somewhat backward, it’s one thing for them to say it, quite another for an outsider. That’s not okay.

Even though they had little to do with the building, the combination of resentment towards the wealthy and the stigma of being an outsider naturally set them against this handsome, rich streamer.

"Hello, this is the Dazzling Star Advertising Company. Do you have an appointment?"

As Alfred walked into the office building, the youthful and pretty receptionist immediately greeted him with a radiant professional smile, completely overlooking the drone by Alfred’s side. This made the audience somewhat more inclined to believe the boasts that Alfred had made earlier, which had seemed like mere bragging.

Alfred Paradox didn’t take the opportunity to taunt, but also smiled, placing the envelope on the desk and saying, "I’m the new art designer, this is my acceptance notice."

"Okay, one moment please."

Although showing up with an acceptance notice for a job was a bit unorthodox, the receptionist still politely dialed the internal line and reported to the upper management based on the information on the envelope. Then, the audience saw the receptionist’s expression go from calm to surprised, then to shocked, all within a few seconds. Even the most obtuse onlooker could tell that the contents of the letter were no trivial matter.

"Hehe, scared, huh? Although I’m wealthy, I genuinely have a high level of education!"

Alfred Paradox chatted with the viewers in the live stream through his neural interface while the receptionist, after hanging up the phone, politely handed the envelope back to him—

"Mr. Paradox, the HR manager is waiting for you on the third floor."

"Thanks! Let’s have dinner together sometime!"

Alfred Paradox playfully winked at the receptionist and then stepped into the elevator, continuing to speak to his live stream audience:

"Isgray City is really great. Where I come from, it’s rare to see such natural girls anymore. They’re either rigid with their front armor or directly connected to your brainwaves. What’s the difference between them and a synthetic AI? Well, at least the synthetic AIs are more uninhibited!"

Although Alfred continued to attract dissatisfaction, the topic of appearances was a universal one amongst humans. With his commentary, the atmosphere in the live stream chat instantly changed, and for the first time, he enjoyed the effect of having the majority of viewers agree with him.

However, the brief interaction didn’t last long. Soon he exited the elevator and arrived at the HR manager’s office on the third floor. He then keenly noticed the device flickering with specks of rainbow light by the door and couldn’t help but smile:

"This is the latest model of electronic guard dog from Constantin Company, mainly to prevent people from bringing in devices like recording pens. Being able to install this thing, I’ve suddenly changed my view of the company. At least it’s not as backward as I thought."

[Is the streamer an idiot? Having this device doesn’t that imply there’s something dodgy with their internal contracts?]

[Right, right. Companies that install such devices are only ostensibly sweet; especially in HR, it’s usually to prevent contract leaks.]

[But at least they sign contracts, don’t they? Even if the terms are overbearing, they are still terms!]

[Am I the only one wondering how the streamer managed to bring a drone inside?]

...

Watching the barrage of comments ask the very questions he wanted to ask, Paradox deleted the content he had already typed on an alternate account and communicated through his neural interface:

"You’re all overthinking it. Being able to install such a device only proves that the company hasn’t reached a certain level of capital, so they have to resort to these kinds of shenanigans. If it were a big corporation, even if they sign a regular contract with you, they would have legal means to screw you over until you can’t take care of yourself. Their approach shows they’re insecure. If they’re insecure, why should I be afraid? As for the live stream, don’t worry, my drone uses military-grade stealth technology. If Constantin’s civilian electronic guard dogs could detect it, the military should be sending someone over."

With that, he knocked on the door, and in response to the three sharp raps, an indifferent voice from the other side called out:

"Come in."
