Chapter 568: Chapter 568: The First Cunning Move

Sitting alone in the room, Feng Xue took out a bottle of mineral water and a flowerpot, and inserted the tree from his hometown into the flowerpot. In an instant, a sense of security spread throughout the room.

The three co-habitants, whose true nature — whether they were real people or something else — Feng Xue didn’t know, had already been sent off to high school, which essentially solved the most troublesome issue of poor team members.

Although the travel instructions did not contain related entries, there was something called "Travel Ethics" in the travel guidebook. While it didn’t list specifics, it did mention that one shouldn’t randomly move or damage public facilities. This discouraged Feng Xue from the idea of "renovating" his single room.

After checking that the luggage of the three passengers had also been categorized as "school luggage" and had been taken to the hellish school with them, Feng Xue did a quick cleanup of the bed and sat down on the edge, looking out the window at the scenery.

"Knock knock knock..."

The crisp sound of knocking suddenly rang out. Feng Xue instantly perked up. Even though the slight vibrations of the train could mask many sounds, he was sure he hadn’t heard any approaching footsteps.

He glanced towards the door and saw a young female conductor wearing a blue cap and a blue uniform, smiling professionally through the round window and saying,

"Sir, would you like some breakfast? We have bread, eggs, porridge, milk..."

Feng Xue was about to respond but suddenly thought of something. He steadied himself and, after a few seconds of silence, stood up woodenly. Without saying a word, as if suddenly remembering something, he walked to the door. When he opened it, his eyelids twitched slightly.

For the conductor, wearing a blue cap, a blue uniform on top, was bizarrely matched with a green skirt.

He silently breathed a sigh of relief, thinking, "Good thing I was cautious." He ignored the conductor, who was still smiling naturally, and rushed out without trying to dodge past her.

Seeing this, the conductor in the green skirt immediately stepped back to make way for Feng Xue, and they passed by each other in silence, as if they couldn’t see one another at all.

After entering the bathroom, Feng Xue washed his face at the sink, his mind replaying the previous encounter with the conductor.

Firstly, the way she stepped back indicated that these entities, or at least those disguised as conductors, were not allowed to make contact with passengers unless they spoke up or made a request. And they likely had a physical body.

As for whether only victims could see them or everyone could, it didn’t matter. The important thing was that, at least in his case, he could see her, and that was enough.

"But to actually use the trick of wearing differently colored tops and bottoms, this Kaidan is certainly no kind spirit!"

Feng Xue tidied up his hair and then left the restroom, only to find the conductor in the green skirt still standing by his door. She immediately said, upon his return,

"Sir, where are the other passengers in this room? The train needs to stop temporarily, and we must have them return to their rooms quickly."

Feng Xue remained in a state of total disregard, as if he hadn’t heard a word and couldn’t see her at all. He walked straight back into his room and quickly closed the door.

The rules in Kaidan do not lack characters disguised as specific personas, but there are many different strategies for dealing with them, like ignoring, offering help, or refusing gifts, etc. Generally, these methods are written into the rules, but the travel instructions did not specify, which is why Feng Xue had decided to test it with his earlier charge.

If the entity had a physical body and required interaction, then bumping into each other or being pushed aside would have been normal; if it had no physical body, he should have passed right through it.

And if a collision had actually occurred, Feng Xue could have brushed it off with an excuse like "an urgent need to pee."

However, considering how she stepped aside, it seemed that this entity belonged to the type that "shouldn’t actively interact with one another."

Back in his seat, Feng Xue glanced at the trash bin under the table, which was currently red. He had no intention of throwing any trash in it; if it were to change color the instant something was dropped in, it would indeed be a trap.

The difference between a Kaidan and an ordinary enemy is that a Kaidan is a supernatural tale, and the power of such tales is usually mightier than any other laws. Therefore, even if Feng Xue had the power to smash the whole train to powder, he still proceeded with caution, complying with the rules bit by bit to avoid falling into a trap unwittingly.

Taking out his pocket watch to check the time, Feng Xue stretched lazily, thinking about pulling out his phone to see if he could connect to this world’s network. But as he turned his head, his heart nearly skipped a beat.

Outside the window, at some unknown time, a pair of peach blossom eyes gazed in with a resentful stare.

Feng Xue was certain that when he was looking at his watch, his peripheral vision should have included the window, but there had been nothing there at the time.

This meant that the entity had appeared the moment he turned his head.

Forcing back a curse that had risen to his lips, Feng Xue looked over the beauty pressed against the window, as casually as if enjoying the view.

Though her eyes were filled with resentment, her figure and appearance were top-notch, her smooth long hair particularly struck Feng Xue’s fancy, and the landscape visible through the tattered robe she wore was fifty times more delightful than the scenery outside the window!

As their eyes met, the ghostly female seemed to falter and, with a snap, vanished from outside the window. Feng Xue, suppressing the disappointment that felt like seeing a buffering message while looking at spicy pictures online, shifted his gaze towards a more distant horizon.

Mentally thanking the Feminization Filter, Feng Xue took out his phone, which in this slightly eerie setting, somewhat shielded him from the gloom.

Certainly, if Feng Xue were to appreciate a face full of rot as he would a landscape, he couldn’t have done so as naturally as he could with a beauty.

"Wow, there’s a signal? Should I start a drone and live stream?" Feng Xue, looking at the full signal strength on his phone, was suddenly tempted by the prospect of seeking death. However, considering his live audience’s mental and physical health, he shelved the idea for now.

In fact, he was quite curious what would have happened had he chosen not to buy a ticket but simply left the station. After all, unlike the backroom, there were indeed people outside the station. The only question was whether these people and the scenery were real or just part of the Kaidan.
