Master of Kaidan-Chapter 572 Roommate Composition
Chapter 572: Chapter 572 Roommate Composition
At 5 a.m., the train traversing the Gobi Desert lit up like a giant snake in the darkness, as the carriages sequentially brightened in a pattern reminiscent of a breathing light. Although the lights were dim, they seemed to carry a tremendous power that could dispel anything.
Feng Xue loosened his grip on the ghost he had been restraining and adjusted the thickness of his trousers before canceling the activation of "Darkness."
In the carriage that had been covered by dark powers, the train’s characteristic dim light returned, and the ghost let out a silent scream, vanishing weakly within the room with a hint of relief.
The warm air blowing from the air conditioner regained its temperature again, and the leaves of the homeland tree trembled slightly, scattering any lingering chill.
Refreshed, Feng Xue stretched lazily and silently activated the self-cleaning program of his Masked Rider Armor. If it weren’t for the sake of safety, he would have surely shown the ghost the power of his Ultimate Bladder Sword.
For a creature that hadn’t even gone through the "Fetus Protection Skill of the Taiyin Transformation Technique," a single strike would have taught it what it meant to have "milk chocolate" on its mind.
"Uh, do ghosts even have brains? Never mind, skip that."
Feng Xue shook his head and glanced at the two occupants in the berth opposite. They did not seem out of the ordinary, unlike the female ghost from before, and he wondered whether they were feigning ignorance or just operated under a different set of rules unrelated to lights out, sleep paralysis, or cold drafts.
His gaze swept under the table, and after confirming that the trash can remained red and contained nothing unusual, he relaxed slightly.
As for the upper bunk... having always maintained a Circle Realm around him, he was well aware of the other person’s every move.
"The travel guide says in this dump of a place daylight doesn’t break until after eight in the morning. Might as well sleep a bit more." Feng Xue, who had been "sleeping" for four hours, feigned a yawn and turned on his side to face outward, resting against the wall to catch up on sleep.
Though he didn’t need to sleep, everyone deserves a chance to reveal their hand, right?
Regrettably, Feng Xue’s meticulously feigned slumber, so precise it mimicked a living being’s vital signs (courtesy of the Taiyin Transformation Technique), deceived no one. This might have been because the dangers of the night ceased after five, or perhaps the Kaidan possessed a different technique to distinguish sleep from wakefulness. It could also be that fulfilling the rule of "needing sleep at night" was enough to avoid any incidents. In any case, until the clock struck eight and the first light of dawn streamed through the window, no new assaults came his way.
"What a pity," he muttered with a tinge of regret, straightening his clothes and sitting up. Just then, a voice from the upper bunk called out:
"Hello? Room service? Yes, carriage 7, compartment 4 needs breakfast. Oh, and do you have hot towels?"
"Oh, is it coming?" Feng Xue immediately perked up, recalling the attendant in the green dress. However, to his surprise, the person who appeared at the door two minutes later was an attendant in a full blue uniform.
"Here’s your towel and breakfast, sir. Is there anything else you need?" The attendant handed the bread, milk, and hot towel from the cart to the passenger above Feng Xue, while casting glances at the other passengers.
One could see that her cart still carried quite a few pieces of bread and milk packets.
"Do you have plain congee with pickled vegetables?" asked the passenger in the lower berth opposite, who had just woken up. After receiving an affirmative response, they promptly ordered. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Feng Xue thought for a moment before saying:
"Do you have spicy soup? Meatball spicy soup, with a lump of steamed bread."
"..."
The atmosphere in the carriage plunged into silence in an instant, the conductor’s professional smile stiffened for a moment before he politely replied,
"Sorry, this train doesn’t serve spicy soup."
"How about hairy crab buns then? Hmm, or Wensi tofu is fine too? Okay, that might be difficult, so what about shrimp noodles? Hand-beaten beef balls, you must have those, right?"
Another wave of silence followed, to which Feng Xue could only shake his head and say,
"If you don’t have this or that, I might as well stick to snacks."
After speaking, he took out a bag of Milk Chocolate from his pocket and started to throw them into his mouth one by one, but his peripheral vision precisely caught the person across in the bunk, the one eating porridge and pickles, noticeably shudder the moment the Milk Chocolate was taken out.
However, what was strange was that the two top bunks showed no reaction to the Milk Chocolate, which made Feng Xue a bit more calculating in his mind.
So, he took out a few more bags of Milk Chocolate and said to his roommates,
"Do you guys want some? I brought plenty."
"No thanks, I’m on a diet," said the person in the bunk across from him, quickly shaking her head, while the person above accepted a bag straightforwardly and then took out a bag of dried mango from her own luggage, saying,
"I won’t take advantage of you, let’s trade snacks."
"Sure," Feng Xue accepted the dried mango but didn’t open it. He didn’t need to explain the common sense that the sweetness would fade if one ate candied fruit after sweets; he then tossed a pack to the girl in his top bunk before continuing to munch on his own snack.
The girl eating bread in the top bunk accepted the Milk Chocolate without returning the favor like the girl across from her, her expression conveying a sense of "consider this payment for the lower bunk," as she naturally tore open the package and tossed pieces into her mouth while drinking milk, ignoring the bread she had purchased from the conductor.
Seeing the two of them actually eat the Milk Chocolate, which had the effect of repelling ghosts, Feng Xue thought to himself,
"Even though all three roommates have been replaced, they seem to be different types. The one across might be a ghost, but I don’t know what kind, and the other two, I’m not sure if they’re impostors or useless teammates; further observation is needed."
With a preliminary plan in mind for the composition of his three roommates, Feng Xue began to think of ways to deal with them. Firstly, he absolutely couldn’t use force, otherwise he might trigger the train police rules, and secondly, conflict points; there were multiple different rule systems on this train, so he might be able to start from that angle.
After clarifying his thoughts, Feng Xue began to reassess his three roommates, but just then, the girl in the bunk across from him suddenly let out a gasp, pointing outside the window,
"Snow! It’s snowing!"
It wasn’t just her, almost simultaneously, similar shouts could be faintly heard from the next carriage. Feng Xue looked out the window on cue, and saw snowflakes, each the size of a thumb, falling from the sky, landing on the gravel-strewn Gobi desert without melting, and accumulating at a rate visible to the naked eye.
Patches of cold fog, combating the warmth of the carriage’s heating, covered the windows, before the girl in the bunk beneath him wiped away the condensation with her hand. Feng Xue glanced at the family trees with no changes, gazed at the snow scenery uncharacteristic of cold, and then reached under his blanket to pull out a small quilt and wrapped it around himself.
Seeing this, the girl in the bunk across from him immediately sneered, "With the heating so high, you’re still wrapped in a blanket? Aren’t you a bit too delicate?"
"Ah, yes, sure, sure..."
