Chapter 173: Chapter 173 - To extend

If it were just another Pixie, then it would merely be a matter of figuring their allegiance out, then spacing appropriately. However, it was human!

A human?

Weren’t humans their enemies? Why was one here? The crimson pixie’s eyes flickered for a bit. A random human wouldn’t get involved in their fight. Not unless they were part of a side.

Wait.

Wasn’t that human the guy who had been throwing around those stupid lances everywhere? He was quite a nuisance, but not particularly its problem.

Anyways, that human was teleporting upward through the chaos, seemingly fleeing from a group of pursuing pixies. The human was casting spells wildly in multiple directions, clearly desperate.

The crimson pixie ignored them entirely. You couldn’t just get distracted in the middle of battle. It had two enemies in front of it that needed to be taken care of.

It raised its wand, gathering mana for a final devastating spell. Then the human suddenly teleported vertically upward, near the crimson pixie. The human turned and looked directly at it.

Their eyes met. The crimson pixie felt something cold settle in its chest. Something was wrong. The human’s expression wasn’t panicked or desperate at all! Wasn’t it running away?!

So why did it have a predatory gaze in his eyes!?

Wait fuck- the pixies eyes went wide as it suddenly teleported away from a blast of fire. "Ahhh!: Yet the hesitation caused it to be hit by the other blast. It had been so distracted over a mere gaze, that it had gotten hit by the actual enemies it was engaged with!

The mana in the air shifted violently. The crimson pixie’s instincts screamed danger. It immediately abandoned its attack and threw itself to the side while its wings beating frantically.

"Torment."

The spell manifested where it had been hovering just a fraction of a second earlier. But the pixie had moved and dodged in time-

A blast of wind suddenly rammed into its body, forcing it stumbling backwards in the air, directly into Torment.

Boom! 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

The equilibrium between Light and Dark energies detonated with devastating force. The pixie didn’t even have time to scream. Its body simply came apart, torn to pieces by the overwhelming power of Torment.

The pixie had indeed dodged. However, Lumi was much, much more experienced in battles than the pixie. The pixie had only been engaged with whether it could move out of the wa of the spell that it hadn’t considered the most important part.

Would the spell hit it?

The pixie kept forgetting that it had two other enemies. Or rather, it was so arrogant that it kept putting it out of their mind, because they ’couldn’t’ beat it.

It was true, they didn’t kill it. But the two pixies had intentionally knocked the pixie back into what they knew would be a powerful spell, given the mana fluctuations.

That didn’t mean they expected the result, however. They merely meant to push them in the way of a spell. Why would they ever expect it to be an instant kill! The two pixies it had been fighting stared in shock at the space where their attacker had been.

One of them looked down at where the human was, only to find that they already lost him. They looked around, but were entirely unable to find him. "And he’s gone. D-do you..." A Pixie gulped. "Was he... at Third Rank?"

A pixie rapidly shook their head in denial. "There’s no way! No, no! There’s no way that... what even was that magic? Did Merath make some new magic, or is this... not that?

"I don’t know. Maybe? It can’t be, Queen Nalare isn’t even Third Rank. Why would a human..."

"Shut up! The Queen is Seyen, now! After we kill the imposter..."

"Oh, right!"

They looked at each other, then back at the corpse of the crimson loyalist pixie they were fighting. Then they decided to leave that area of the battlefield entirely and find easier prey elsewhere. They had almost died against that one, after all.

...

Near the center of the engagement, close to where Seyen and Queen Nalare were still locked in their personal duel, a level 35 pixie was demonstrating exactly why it had risen to become one of the queen’s trusted enforcers.

"Mind down!"

"Perception Shift!"

With intense skill, layering debuff after debuff on its enemies until they could barely resist. It made sure to note the enemy capabilities before laying on both personal debuffs and area field effects, then finishing them off with contemptuous ease.

"Pathetic," it sneered, watching another rebel pixie fall. "Absolutely pathetic! You actually thought you could challenge the queen? You’re nothing. All of you are nothing."

It snarled savagely. "This is why you will account to nothing! You could have had stability! Food, water, and to hunt humans! We could be a united species! But no, idiots like YOU ruin it!"

It began chanting under its breath. "Under the light of the stars, the movements halt, for the stars we don’t agree." Whatever the chant meant didn’t matter, what did matter was that it allowed for this spell to be cast, this one targeting a cluster of three pixies simultaneously. They slowed dramatically, their movements becoming sluggish and uncoordinated.

The enforcer raised its wand to finish them. "Triangle b-" A human suddenly appeared in its peripheral vision, teleporting to a position uncomfortably close.

"Tch-" The sudden interruption caused its spell to hesitate for a millisecond. "Beam."

"Aah!" In the distance, the sounds of two pixies screaming in pain were heard. For despite the interruption, it still finished the spell, which severely injured two pixies.

The enforcer’s head snapped around, irritation flashing across its face. "What do you want, human? I’m busy."

It had no idea what this human even was supposed to be. Some random? A friend? Enemy? It wasn’t as if it recognized him. However, it assumed he was... probably an ally?

If the human was an enemy, they wouldn’t just calmly appear in front of it to talk, no? "It’s regarding the queen." The human responded. "You see, she gave orders rega-"

"Shut up!" While the enforcer was listening to the explanation, it suddenly felt mana gathering and immediately recognized the threat level. This human was being all tricky, distracting her with words while he casted something!

And damn, this wasn’t some weak spell. This was something dangerous. It wasn’t just about the mana she felt being used, nor the intensity of the energy she felt began to be formed.

Something deep in her soul told her it was deadly. She had killed plenty of humans. She loved the way they screamed. In particular, she loved the young, defenseless ones. There was something about how they died...

In doing that, she attracted a strike team. She was one of the two survivors as her little group was slaughtered by the human mages. She remembered the soul-biting terror that a Third Rank magician caused her.

It was exactly the same now. Yet, she knew for a fact that this human wasn’t at the Third Rank. So why did she feel this way!?

It didn’t matter! It had to protect its own life!

It reacted instantly with years of combat experience guiding its movements. It opened its wings to catch the wind and get caught upwards.

"Fuck!" It couldn’t help but explain. It would give anything to just curse that human right now! Bring his magic power down by any way possible! Yet, and yet it had used it all on some dumb, weak pixies earlier!

"Torment."

The orb manifested faster than the enforcer had anticipated. Since when were such powerful spells cast instantly like garbage!?.

"Stop-" It manipulated raw mana into a barrier as best as it could in the split second before being struck. The barrier shattered like glass.

Boom!

"Gah-" The pixie didn’t instantly die, but blood flew out of its mouth as its internal organs were shredded by the attack. "Y-you murderer..."

It fell to the ground, but opened its mouth. Flying through the air, three red potions fell in position on its mouth. At some unknown point, it had thrown them up before Torment hit.

Lumi felt the immense energy leave him as convergence ended. He didn’t hesitate at all. He no longer had a reason to stay. He swiftly left the scene.

"Gulp... gulp..." The severely injured pixie drank down the health potions, hoping to quickly recover.

The three slowed pixies it had been about to kill just stared at the severely injured pixie, completely unable to process what they’d just witnessed.

One of the queen’s elite enforcers, a pixie that had terrorized this battlefield for the entire engagement, had just been crippled single spell by a human they’d never even heard of.

Their eyes flashed. "Hey, bitch!" One of them called out. "Take this! Fire wave!"

"Tracking Icicles!"

The third pixie’s eyes grew malicious. "You thought you were hot shit? Die!"

As Lumi left, it didn’t take long for the notification to come.
