Chapter 87: Chapter 87 - Wand.

Renan and Renatta stared at each other blankly for a while.

After a moment, Renatta lightly giggled, then turned serious. "I’m serious, you know? I wasn’t just making a small joke. Seriously consider it. What if it’s not even a woman?

"It’s definitely a woman." Renan sighed back.

"Okay." Renatta nodded. "If you are sure. But what if she’s actually like forty-four?"

"She’s... not... fourty-four..." Renan groaned out.

They shared a stare for a while, before Renatta shrugged. "As long as you are sure."

After a moment of confused silence, Renan ignored that topic entirely and skipped to responding to what she said before. "You were worried about the socializing aspect. There’s plenty of that, you know? Just like the advertisements, it’s like another world. You get fully immersed as if you left reality. Maybe eight hours a day is a bit stressful, but it’s whatever. Everyone works that much. At least I get to play a game.."

"Alright." Renatta replied, pondering. "I suppose that makes sense. Now eat something, please. You were in that thing so long."

Renan nodded. "I was planning on it."

Before she left, she paused to kiss the top of his head, leaving Renan to raid the kitchen properly.

His mother’s concerns were valid from her perspective. If only she knew the stakes involved. If only he could explain that every level gained might be the difference between salvation and apocalypse.

But that burden was his to bear. He could show them his strength, prove his words, but to what end? If he wasn’t convincing a future top player, then it was a waste of time and unnecessary stress.

After finishing his meal he then went and checked on his brother Randy. He had interacted with him even less than his ma recently, though to be fair, it was his ma. Of course he would make sure to talk to her.

Randy was in his room, door closed, the lack of light underneath his door indicating he was already asleep. It wasn’t late enough to sleep, but perhaps Randy had a headache.

The house felt too quiet as he moved around. It was just three people, after all. Himself, Randy, and Ma. It was no wonder that his mother noticed his relative absence just that much harder.

His father lived in what could only be described as ??? location, in which nobody knew, apparently even including his father himself.

Still, there was nothing for him to do about it.

He flexed his hand, feeling the muscles in his arm ripple. The blessing did not consist of minor stat bonuses. They were huge even in the game, much less for a person on Earth.

He had no intention of wasting time when he held this power in his hand. He had a lot of power, and some people should be very afraid of what he was going to do with that power.

He got up, and informed his mother that he was going out. He went to a lumber store to get a slab of oak wood. After getting his wood, he went back home and locked himself in the garage.

...

Slice. Slice. Slice.

Renan worked methodically, using a knife to carve the wood to his designs. Renan pressed his small knife against the log, and with a small bit of force, it began to easily slice through like butter.

There was nothing wrong with the wood.

Renan had so much strength that this became trivial.

First, Renan split the log down to a more manageable size, leaving behind a wooden length. He began carving. First by trimming the piece down to its desired length, and beginning to slim down the rod.

Every single movement, Renan focused his entire body, making sure his muscles moved just right, skillfully carving the wood out. It wasn’t enough to be strong. One needed technique. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

If you lacked technique yet held strength, what would be waiting for you was none other than a broken knife.

He sanded and treated the wood, finishing up his construction. After half an hour, he was left with a simple object.

It was nothing more than a slender rod of polished wood, straight from end to end, about the length of a forearm and capable of being grasped within a hand.

Near one end, there’s a ring shaped indentation carved around the circumference. The tip beyond that ring rounds out.

There was nothing to suggest importance. No one would ever call the object special unless they personally saw it do something special.

Renan slowly held it, bringing it to his eyes, examining it.

A simple mundane wand, with no extraordinary properties whatsoever.

Despite its simplicity, it would serve his purpose. He held it within his hand, aiming it out. He slowly whispered. "Light Shower..."

He personally guided and weaved the nearly non-existent mana through his imaginary mana channels, and out from the wand, came...

Magic.

Renan smiled. The more time that passed, the more he was feeling comfortable to smile despite the situation. How could he not, when he was making such advances?

His eyes flickered, and he grasped his wand tighter. He wasn’t inside Masteria. He wasn’t controlling a manufactured body, not contained by the system.

He closed his eyes in immense concentration. Around his wand, what gathered was not pure white light. Instead, it was a furious, avenging orange.

His eyes suddenly opened in a sharp glare, and he commanded. "Holy Arrow!" From his wand, several arrows materialized out of the burning orange, piercing off into the air.

Renan looked on with satisfaction, heart racing. He could now cast nearly any spell he wanted in the real world, as long as he had the sufficient power and mana to do so.

Mana...

Renan felt his mana reserves, which were already nearly empty, tug at his mind like a broken heart. He clicked his tongue in small irritation.

With just two simple spells, perfect mana efficiency, and I’m still out already?

Earth is truly barren still...

He pocketed the wand, though it stood out, and pondered his next choices.
